If only there were about eighty posts explaining it.

Jason Lloyd mentioned in his article some news we were sitting on. The team does plan to use the last spot in the 15 man roster on insurance at PG, preferably somebody who has strengths where Delly is limited (quickness, scoring off the dribble) but that is the 15th spot. The guy they get may not make the rotation.

Actually, going by the article, it sounds like they are looking to replace Delly with a better player ("upgrade at backup point guard") using Haywood's contract. If they fail to get a better option via trade, then they'll go with depth route and sign one of the CBA players.

It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next month. Farmar is still out there, right? He's an upgrade over Delly. If we get an assurance from Ray Allen, I could see us signing Allen, trading Haywood for a big that can eat 10-15 min a game, cutting Delly (or including him in Haywood deal), and signing Farmar as the back-up PG. Win across the board.

10 minutes...that is the amount of time Kyrie Irving is averaging off the court so far this year...someone tell me why, with Shumpert back who can handle some PG duties, we need an "upgrade" at back-up PG to play ~10 minutes a night? And even worse, why we need to trade our last expendable major asset for said player?

Also, I am not in favor of taking our best 3 point shooter by % completely out of the rotation, especially when he moves the ball and gets everyone involved. With Shumpert back, I hope I hear less and less about needing an "upgrade" over a player who will barely play now that we are healthy and most likely won't sniff the court come playoff time.

Lloyd has been sitting on that nugget for about three weeks. Cavs were clearly worried about Delly pressed into bigger minutes due to injury. Who knows which vital player might get an injury...

Is Lloyd back in the good graces of the CAVS? Ie does he now have sources back?

That's not exactly what Lloyd says. What he does say is the Cavs are exploring using Haywood in a trade for a backup PG. The reason for this is, as we have been discussing, and as Windy has mentioned more than once, with the Cavs likely over the cap apron this summer they won't be able to execute a sign and trade with Haywood, and as a result (and this point is not said as explicitly) Haywood's contract may well be worth MORE to another team NOW than it is to the Cavs.

But if a PG is obtained in a trade in this scenario, obviously it wouldn't be for the 15th roster spot. Lloyd does say the Cavs would consider a free agent PG, specifically mentioning Will Bynum (who has been much discussed already) and Bobby Brown, which is the first time I have heard his name tied to the Cavs.

How much of it was really a secret though? Griffin has mentioned backup PG multiple times. Everyone and their brother could see that Delly shouldn't be playing 30 minutes.

So we're going to trade Haywood for a backup PG that won't see minutes, we'll sign Ray Allen's decrepit ass, and when Mozgov goes down with a freak injury, we'll be right back where we started.

Losing confidence in Griffin if he thinks that backup PG is a bigger priority than another center.

I see a number of posters who think there is one plan. Lloyd gave several options in the article, not one plan. It all depends on health to the existing planned rotation.

Ironically, Mo Williams might be available. He's on a team in the West with nothing to play for and has a salary that compares with Haywood's. All we have to trade for him is that second-rounder we acquired, although honestly that should be enough.

I'm not gonna lie, I'd be downright giddy if Mo Williams came back to play backup PG.

Anyone knows what's up with Damon Jones and Boobie Gibson these days? :chuckle:

Good grief am I the only one who thinks that Mozgov needs backup? What happens if he goes down in the playoffs? Need someone as backstop in defense, esp as Love and Kyrie are as porous as sand at times.

I think a backup rim protector is more of a need than backup PG. Remember Shumpert can play point.

Moz goes down were fucked flat out. And in the league history 7 footers aren't the most durable players
