Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ah yes the Kevin Love theory. you white, you not athletic (even if youre good at a sport)

Kevin Love really did need to work on his athleticism at UCLA. He stands as proof that it can be done. Dellavedova needed to lose some bad weight while maintaining his strength, which he seems to have done since his senior year.

Think of a list of PG's that do not have the athletic skills of MJ but that still had a great career: I'll start with Stockton ... who else?

Jason Kidd

If we're digging for a comparison for Delly, how about modernized Scott Brooks? Terror on defense, superb hustle, enough offensive skill to keep him on the court. I say modern because three point shooting is much more of a requirement in today's game. Brooks didn't have the shot that Delly has, but I think that's more a circumstantial result.

I don't know about great careers (for the latter) but Terrel Brandon and Brevin Knight were both not much more athletic than Delly. Brevin had a long career.

Andre Miller anyone?

Let's not even get into Mark Jackson.

Latest power rankings ya all!! http://www.nba.com/powerrankings/

PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE REMARKS ABOUT DION AND DELLY... It will be very difficult for Brown to cut his minutes based on this. He will look like a complete idiot. Cavs just climbed up a couple spots in the rankings!!

Cleveland (30-45)
Pace: 95.4 (19), OffRtg: 100.5 (24), DefRtg: 104.9 (20), NetRtg: -4.4 (24)
The Cavs have won four of their last five (without Kyrie Irving) to put themselves in the picture for that last playoff spot in the East. Matthew Dellavedova isn't Irving, but he's been running the offense pretty well. The Cavs are a plus-10.5 per 100 possessions in 625 minutes with Dellavedova and Dion Waiters on the floor together, a mark that's much better than any of their other guard combinations.
This week: @ ORL, @ ATL, vs. CHA

Brandon and Knight were both very quick when they were younger. Knight was right up there with Iverson for the league lead in steals as a rookie. Both slowed down as they got to their late 20s. Right now Delly has nothing on Brandon's scoring ability, but he is stronger.

The height and strength advantages for the position with the lack of pure quickness reminds me of Miller, pretty good call. I think Delly can be the better outside shooter. It all depends on his comfort going forward, as many have said.

Nash was a quicker player with the ball in his hands, but I can tell Dellavedova patterns his game after Nash. We have been saying Derrick Fisher clone since summer league, and so far it holds up.

Scott Skiles is the closest I can come. I believe Delly will be a coach some day too. Shit, he's already a coach on the floor.

This is all well & good, but we're not expecting him to be, nor do we need him to be, another John Stockton..

Why not? You would turn away the opportunity to have a Stockton-like player?
If a player has potential to develop further and be a greater asset why not develop him? The seasons are long and team depth helps the stars last better, let alone the fact that Kyrie can be stopped and have bad nights. You need players to fill the void. Again I give you the Spurs as evidence of the merit behind such a philosophy.

Nobody is saying that. Want the undrafted guy to turn into a HOF player with the all time assists and steals records? Why the fuck not? Sign me up.

MoFlo seems to have been saying Delly may not become John Stockton, arguably top three all time point guard in history... and that's okay if it doesn't happen. Realistic expectations can go a long way when you have seen as much overreaction as we have over the years.

Keys made my point for me:

Of course I'd welcome Stockton-like player, every team & fanbase would.

Nor am I saying that you don't develop a player, that's just silly.

However, the expectation of Delly becoming a Stockton-like player is just astronomically high & shouldn't be made. That's just disappointing yourself & magnifies Delly's weaknesses.

I'm simply saying we don't need him to be a Stockton-like player, so why put that unrealistic expectation on him? If by the slim chance, he comes even close, fan-freaking-tasic, but it's okay if he doesn't.

I could see the kid totally bogan when he's in his element.

Douglar dropping some New Zealand slang in a room full of late nite Aussies... what a faux pas! Let's watch the fall out, this should be good...

I think faux pas is correct...

Question Keys, did you watch Derek Fisher early in his career? Was he always so thick? He's a fucking tank now, I can't recall him being so built on the Lakers.
