Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Earlier in the thread I said I didn't think Delly would be apart of this team because he didn't do anything very well but did everything pretty good. But honestly now I see him as the PERFECT PG to relieve Kyrie and play with Dion off the bench. It's very arguable he's the teams second best defender now, and individual defenders is something we are starving for. He can hit a 3, he won't get ripped by other teams trash backup PGs and he won't give up a lot of points. He's so good actually that other PGs try to score less when Delly Is on them. He also knows his role, and I think that may be a team problem early in the season. People accepting their roles.

Heres to a whole season of backup PGs having to pass the ball every play or feel the wrath of Delly.

Is it a given that he isn't getting thrown into the Love trade this off-season? I'd love to have him this season.

There are some PG's he can't play against, but there are times when it is as much fun watching him play defense as it is watching the rest of the team trying to score. Loved that montage where he was getting right in the faces of big men and wrestling the ball away. He's like that little terrier grabbing at a leg and not letting go. It seems kind of funny until you realize the little bastard isn't joking, and it hurts.

I don't think he gets enough credit for how physically strong and tough he is. Former football player and I remember he piled up bench press reps at the combine. One of the best players at fighting over/around picks and screens.

I got my shit jumped in another thread for saying this, but I think LBJ is going to absolutely love Delly simply because of how he always plays on both sides of the floor.

This pretty much embodies your post in the bold:

That was a lot of fun and the crowd's pop made it even more impactful.

he I remember watching that play at 3 03. Man was playing so hard

Right! For him, an absoluting defining moment in his season where he was able to show that he belongs. He basically said "Fuck it. Let me guard anyone - I don't care who it is - and I'll make his life hell." Love that attitude!

I got caught up in an old throwback game on NBA TV, Houston on its way to a championship with Hakeem and Drexler going toe to toe with Mitch Richmond and the Sacramento Kings. I was struck by how similar Delly plays to new HOFer Sarunas Marciulionis.

Marciulionis played most of his younger prime years for the Soviets, but when he made it to the states he was able to defend multiple positions, had great anticipation for steals, smart enough to run the offense but strong enough to body up small forwards, killed it from deep.

If Delly ends up contributing like Marciulionis, I'll be more than satisfied keeping him as the first guard off the bench.

Best part of thst vid is at 3:30ish when Fred gets athletic peering around MB, man was all over it :chuckles:

This summer, Beals was quoted as saying, Dellavedova was the best defender he faced. I wounder if this game had something to do with that statement?

I grew up in Sacramento. Mitch was with the Kings all the way through my junior year in high school. Was this game in Sacramento? I actually think I was at that game. I went to a ton of Kings games back in those days. I saw the Cavs come to town a few times. The Cavs won every time too. First Cavs game ever was in the Price / Daugherty / Nance era at Arco Arena. Cavs had to win in OT, mainly because Spud Webb hit a a three pointer at the buzzer to tie it. I remember so much from that game that I can tell you that Rod Higgins started for the Cavs that game, so that would have made it the 93-94 season.

The Marciulionis comparison is pretty accurate in terms of motor. Sarunas was non stop on both ends of the floor and he had a somewhat awkward, but quick left handed release. The main difference between the two, other than position, is that Sarunas was known to rock the porn stache on occasion...

Delly is the most underrated defender on this team and it's not even close. He's going to make a name for himself with his defense and three point shooting come playoff time. Watching his game over the past year, I genuinely believe he can develop into one of the best backup point guards in the league. I could honestly see him starting somewhere else in a few years.

Not sure if anyone is aware, but Australia beat Ukraine 75-60 in a warm-up game for the World Cup. Australia led 32-7 after 1 and 49-21 at halftime so most players saw limited minutes. Dellavedova played 20 minutes and scored no points (on 1 shot attempt) but had 5 assists and only 2 turnovers.

Mike Fratello coaches Ukraine, so I'm not surprised at all by the low score lol.

Here's a box score.

No box score has been found yet, lol.
