Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
His shot has been streaky since college and I agree he still needs to work on his form. I think the bigger issue for Dellavedova offensively these past four weeks or so is that he is being put in a position where he is playing big minutes as something other than a playmaker for others. Even in the summer league, he was passing to Wiggins, Bennett, and even Cherry and Kirk before looking for his own shot. Get the better offensive players on the floor with Delly and he will get them open looks, and he will be an asset. Defenses and combinations on the floor have put him in a position to just shoot from the outside and create space for others... its not his strength yet. Hopefully it will be soon.

How did Delly score so much in college, if he's not that good a shooter, and not that good a ball-handler? Where did the points come from?

i need help on this too
When he moved to PG as a sophomore, he scored roughly an equal number of 2's and 3s. He had the ability to successfully drive in the lane which he is struggling with in the NBA. His 3 point shot was either on or off. He would often drill 5 threes one game and only sink one the next. He was excellent at getting to the FT line and shot these at over 85% over four years.
Write off Delly at your own peril. The guy has made a living out of proving people wrong. He has had a rough month playing a role at which he is unsuited, but plenty of Cavs have struggled of late and singling him out is a little unfair. I think he is an important part of thus team as a glue guy who will play 10-15 mins.

The defenses can't home in on the ballhandler as much when Kyrie is on the court. The bench has sucked because they are all starting. It isn't rocket science. It's also obvious Delly has chemistry with the only guy he played with last year.

Of course his percentage is gonna be high when he rarely shoot the ball when Kyrie's on the floor. He useless when on the court with Kyrie because all he's doing is passing up open shots to pass the ball.

wut?

Windy pretty much took Delly's talent level to the woodshed in Windy's 1-9-15 radio broadcast.

- Delly should not be starting in the NBA, should not be finishing games in the NBA, should not be playing significant minutes in the NBA.

- Delly should not be on the court in critical situations. Shows team talent level is low.

- It is not acceptable to have Delly/Harris on court at same time when you are trying to win a game at home.

- Talentwise, Delly is not getting it done at NBA level. Can't be top 7 rotation player for you.

As much as I like Delly as a person and as a gritty player, I agree with Windhorst. The team needs a better shooting, more athletic backup point guard.

Nothing new we don't know, hell I've and many others been saying the same shit. I hope Windy didnt open eyes because he's 'Windy'. Delly is obviously a backup of a backup.

Even Delly's supporters agree with those points. His best role is being a physical defensive point guard and smart, controlled field general with four athletes on the court with him. That isn't a top 7 rotation player, that is Scott Skiles or Steve Blake in his prime.

They should find one if they can, but keep in mind the Cavaliers are getting the best backup point guard a rookie minimum contract can afford. This reminds me of the times we talked about how Chandler Parsons was a decent forward in talent for the Rockets, but having that cheap contract allowed Darryl Morey to be creative with roster moves, thus Parsons was MORE valuable because of his production in relation to contract.

Those guys could knock down open shots with regularity. Delly is not close to being on their level.

Definitely. Windy said that Delly is ok if he's like the 10th guy on the team. I agree. I like Delly and would like to see him with the team. Just not as the primary backup.

Delly is a great intangibles guy. If we didn't have LeBron's older friends on the roster, I think Delly might fit even better.

Three weeks of a slump playing out of position verses a body of work that dates back to last year.

It's been a rough go shooting. Law of averages make me feel like he won't shoot 30% much longer.

I still wonder why people aren't more pissed at the guys on this team who are NOT playing, putting Dellavedova in a position to play 40 minutes a game out of position. The Mike Miller and Shawn Marion threads are quiet... they were the ones expected to be productive on the wing.

Fair enough.... but Scott Skiles was a starting point guard for years in the league. FAR more talented than Delly.

This is dead on. Mike Miller was supposed to be a good pickup, but he is playing terribly. Marion I am more forgiving with because his defense has been about as good as anyone's. That is why Delly plays too. He gives effort on D.

Delly is in a slump, had a badly sprained knee which we have not heard about lately, but he was balling when he went down. At the beginning of the year before the injury, people were praising his increased quickness and shot. He was obviously contributing to wins, and once he went down, team play decreased and Blatt's system went out the window.

The players need to wake up. If you play like Blatt wants you to, you will get minutes.
