Mayweather vs Pacquiao | May 2, 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@JanayRice: My husband hits harder than mayweather #BoxingIsDead #MacPac #MayPac

Can't wait to hear about all of Mayweather's ignorant, braggart bullshit on the twitter machine.

It wasn't a great fight from a "boxing purists" perspective. First, the size discrepancy was pretty wild. Mayweather boasted a 5-6 inch reach advantage (!) and a 2-inch height advantage but it honestly felt like more watching it live.

Manny is a tiny, tiny dude and his size forced him to play aggressor which plays right into the style of Mayweather. This was one of the easiest opponents in years for Mayweather and one of the most disappointing matches I've ever watched.

Not making a direct comparison here but if you watch old Ali film, he dances around the ring as well. Mayweather/Ali are both really tactical (Ali more aggressive) but nonetheless slippery.. I think people are just used to watching highlights. They aren't really the same style of fighter but you get the point where people were pissed off Mayweather was "screwing around."

I watched most of Ali's fights, and he was just a much more active fighter than is Mayweather. Also a harder puncher even though that generally wasn't his style.

He also had a killer instinct in terms of not laying off just because he was ahead on points. He got more and more aggressive as he wore his opponent down. Mayweather generally just plays the points game.

Defense and punch accuracy are the biggest similarities.

Mayweather's fights just aren't that entertaining because he rarely takes chances. He seems almost emotionless.

Mayweather is not an entertaining boxer, even though he certainly could be. But I won't begrudge him for it. You look at Ali and you understand exactly why he chooses he be one of the safest fighters ever. If he can make money like this while not getting hit? I'd do it to.

People shouldn't complain about Floyd being boring. Just stop buying his fights. If you were him and you had the ability to win every fight while not getting hit and get paid like that, you'd do it to.

I'm not really sure what to think of Floyd. Yes, he's amazing in the sense that you can't hit him. He's too quick and has a near perfect length/weight ratio. It is impossible to hit him because he's got a 5 inch reach advantage and is quicker than anyone else. I don't see how anyone could beat him with the way he fights. But I can't take his fighting style seriously because it's like getting up 2-0 in a basketball game and running a 4 corners stall for the rest of the game. Congrats I guess.

People who never watch boxing that only watch these "spectacle" fights and then critique the sport are so hilarious to me. Boxing is a science. Different weight divisions have different fights. Fighters have different styles. The "fight is boring without a KO" crowd are like casual basketball fans that don't like Tim Duncan... "He's no Blake Griffin!"

Floyd is not only a brilliant fighter, but he was active the ENTIRE fight. The way that he can slip a punch and counter one of the quickest guys in the sport is a treat to watch. Had about 10 friends over and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Floyd landed almost 50% of his power punches!

Anyone watch Leo Santa Cruz before the Mayweather fight? Two featherweight guys going at each other. Never a knock out in sight, but you'll never see as many exchanges. Exciting in a different way. Heavyweights are lacking today, but people forget that with big heavy punchers come even more clinches. Give and take.

Great fight.

Great fight.

It just wasn't a good match up. Manny is older and out of his prime, Mayweather clearly bigger and quicker in every way. The only rounds Manny won were rounds that Mayweather decided (smartly) to remain stagnant and take a few hits knowing that he had a clear lead in the fight. Mayweather doesn't exert himself with flurries of punches because he saves his energy and there were only a couple instances when Manny fully took advantage of that if you can call it that.

Manny was just outmatched and it made for a bad fight. I think a lot of us who follow the sport wanted it to be good but were disappointed with the end result.

Everything about this was overrated except for Mayweather's talent/quickness. This was anything but a "great fight".

I don't necessarily disagree with you on anything except for two things:

1) Mayweather rope-a-doped Pacquiao; this was done purposefully. Pacquiao even realized it and stepped back as to avoid punching himself out (4th rnd). Mayweather gave Pacquiao this round, simply hoping to tire him out.

2) It was a "great fight" because you saw one fighter masterfully execute his craft and literally outclass the second-best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. It just showed how good Mayweather really is.

Mayweather was more active and threw more punches.

He's not going to stand still, because his style is such that he does not allow himself to be hit.

I think a lot of folks want to see an exchange of punches, and that would entail Mayweather deliberately allowing himself to get rocked...

Would you do that if you were in the ring with someone who hits as hard as Pacman?

I think people are saying it wasn't a good match because Pacquiao didn't play it as smartly as he could have. There was no way he could have won using the strategy he used.

He was overly defensive, but still getting tagged in almost every round. He was boxing flatfooted, on a straight line, lacking any finesse, and seemingly without strategy. Almost every time Mayweather landed the overhand right cross, it was when he backed himself into the corner and spun out popping Manny on the way out. It looked like Mayweather was just schooling Pacquiao.

I don't think people really appreciate how scientific Mayweather's approach in this fight was.

I've never seen a more composed, deliberate, and crafty fighter.

That's the thing. It wasn't anything I hadn't already seen before. Seeing him fight 40 something times with mostly the same approach is to be appreciated but at the end of the day you want to see both fighters challenge each other. You want to see something that the other fighter possesses that creates a rift in their style of fight. If anything, the opposite happened.

When people look back on this fight, they'll consider Pacman one of his easier opponents. Nothing shocked me, nothing engaged me, it was just a good ol' fashioned blowout and that's probably the least exciting kind of match in boxing.

I'd like to see Floyd fight someone else, TBH. No rematch needed for me.

I think this is a pretty good comparison.

But at this point, everyone should know this about Floyd. So if you keep buying the fights when you've had years and years of warnings that this is what he likes to do and you don't like watching someone do that, then that's on you (the general you).
