Mayweather vs Pacquiao | May 2, 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought 118-110 was kinda fucked up, other than that, Floyd won easily, no doubt. He did what he does best, and thats being boring.

Shit ass fight though.

I will say this is pretty amazing how nostalgic people are for boxing.

I dunno if it was nostalgia... I absolutely loved the fight...

I simply can't understand why folks would tune in to see a knockout (even a knockdown was unlikely). No one, and I mean no one, who follows boxing, thought this fight would end in a knockout.

That's Mayweather.. You cannot touch him.. That's the point.

Basically, yes.. Tennis hasn't gone anywhere and isn't going anywhere. But yeah, I think that's a pretty good analogy.

But I love tennis.. so...

I do want to go back to the statement you made about there being a lack of great American heavyweights. As someone who is far more interested in boxing than I am, do you think that will change?

As an outsider, I see the the pounding football has taken, and it seems as though boxing has gotten it far worse. You NEVER hear about up and coming boxers. It seems Americans have completely shifted away from the sport, in terms of developing talent. And the few that could be great boxers opt instead for the UFC or MMA.

I will never care about any of those three, so you tell me. Am I right?

Nope.

Did I miss anything?

A great boxing performance by Floyd Mayweather... but again, if you're not a fan of the sport, then I dunno what to tell you bro.

Look...

Unless you're playing the sport, sports are entertainment.

Drama and hype are a big part of it for some. Not me.

To me, I just want to see extraordinary athletic feats, some emotion and big plays under pressure.

This fight just didn't show me that tonight.

I think the problem with boxing today is that there are no great American heavyweights... Boxing hasn't gone away, it's just that Americans are no longer the best heavyweight boxers.

I'd assume that's because American heavyweight types end up going into MMA or football nowadays.

There were people that paid $100 for this, and we got Spurs-Clips for 7 games for FREE.

Manny is the better person, Mayweather is the better fighter.

People wanted the puncher to win and beat the woman beater, but what was expected happened and we say a boxing match controlled by an all time tactician. Boring to a casual boxing fan, but interesting to a true boxing fan.

PS. Most on here are casual fans obviously.

Remember when @Damien O'Connel made the thread about Lionel Messi being the best overall athlete in any sport?

Remember how much shit he got for that?

It was pretty obvious most of the commenters had no idea about the sport of soccer.... that's pretty evident in this thread.

That's fine and dandy. Again, I'm not trying to hide the fact that I'm not familiar with the sport. I'm green when it comes to boxing and I decided to give the fight of the century a chance. It was one of the more boring sporting events I've witnessed. That's really all I'm saying.

Combine that with my social media flooding with Floyd fans mouthing off about "haters" and I'm just sitting here chuckling and shaking my head at the sport of boxing.

I didn't watch these two girls fight either. I watched a corny ass chick flick on netflix, that probably had more action than this lame fight..

Maybe nostalgia isn't the right word, but it just seems like people are still willing to come out in droves for boxing when there is a big event.

It's not like the sport is totally dead, as some MMA fans gleefully proclaim.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's like the "people will come" speech from "Field of Dreams." :chuckle:

I honestly don't, not unless something really changes. Boxing used to be a way for large men to earn a living in sports.

Nowadays, honestly, if you're in that great shape, and that large (heavyweight) you're probably going to focus your athleticism towards one of the major leagues - and this starts at a young age.

Guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao are too small to play any of those sports, but they're incredibly fast... I think the welterweights will continue to thrive, and there's some good boxing to be seen. But the heavyweights won't be coming back until the sport is reformed, and boxers can make a better living on average in a more league-oriented sport that's less dominated by promoters and the networks.

As an outsider, I see the the pounding football has taken, and it seems as though boxing has gotten it far worse. You NEVER hear about up and coming boxers. It seems Americans have completely shifted away from the sport, in terms of developing talent.

This is entirely right..

And the few that could be great boxers opt instead for the UFC or MMA.

I think UFC is trash to be honest. I thought it's early years were great, but the way it's managed, the rules they use, ugh god... I also think the skill-set to be a boxer is a lot higher than UFC (not MMA, but UFC), and I come from a wrestling/judo background and I mean that wholeheartedly.

Classic UFC was greatness... but I knew it wouldn't last.

I will never care about any of those three, so you tell me. Am I right?

I think you're pretty much right on the money actually...
