Memphis Grizzlies trade Rudy Gay to Toronto

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone feel like this is a good trade for Raptors?

It pretty much insures Bryan Colangelo gets to stay on board. They get Rudy for 2 more seasons after this one then he will leave. They will make the playoffs those two years as low seeds but after that then what? Still stuck with Bryan Colangelo and back to being bottom feeders. I guess two years of first round elimination is better then losing every year but not tanking to get better.

Horrible.

Memphis fans have to be extremely pissed.

They've basically given away Speights, Ellington, Pargo, and now Rudy Gay... and for what? Ed Davis and Jon Leuer? I understand the want for cap space, but Jesus Christ...

Memphis not only gets better with the players they gained they got younger and a lot more flexible. Davis and Daye are both great assets that can contribute and Prince will fit the offense system better going forward. I guess you have to really like Rudy a lot to not see how this trade was great for Memphis.

Don't know what Toronto is thinking here. Ed Davis has a PER of 18.1 and 23 yo old. We saw what he could do against us the other night.
Instead of keeping a young big you trade for a guy whose PER is 15 and has an atrocious contract. Him and Bargnani really limit what they can do.

Memphis got Ed Davis to be a great backup big man and Prince to replace Gay

Memphis wins this trade.

Now they can potentially trade ZBo and keep D Arthur and still have a great big man rotation. Not to mention Prince slides in effortlessly and even upgrades them from Gay.

Great money and talent trade for Memphis. Ed Davis will be GOOD

Merged the two threads since the trade is now a done deal.

Don't forget about Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye. They will provide exactly what the Grizzlies need.

It's a good trade for Memphis in the sense that it saves them money. Gay has also been a black hole for them so maybe Prince brings some veteran, championship winning intensity and consistency to the team. It does narrow their window, however, of competing at the highest level. That pick in 2 or 3 years may very well be in the lottery.

Both guys give them GREAT floor spacing. Ed Davis easily upgrades Speights without a contract problem this summer, but if he continues developing, he allows them to move ZBO and get away from that ceiling all together.

Great trade for Memphis

Its a good trade for Memphis if they're rebuilding... Don't see how this is a good trade for contending now though.

Well, I don't think anyone's pining over Pargo :chuckles:

Memphis hardly gets "nothing" in this trade. They get a very good, young big man, a solid young 3, a solid vet 3, and a couple 2nd rounders to boot.... for one of the worst contracts in the entire NBA.

Fact is, Rudy Gay hasn't been very good this year, and definitely hasn't been deserving of a max contract. When you want to play inside-out like Memphis does with their two bigs who command attention down low, a high volume SF shooting 40% from the field and 31% from deep just isn't very helpful. Prince won't take up as many shots (hopefully leading to more shots inside for Gasol/Randolph) and he can space the floor with better 3 point shooting. Not to mention they get a cheap, talented long term replacement for Z-Bo. Name value aside, Memphis destroyed in this trade. Makes you wonder why they made that trade with us, since they also saved a ton of money with this one.

I want whatever the Raptors Management are smoking, it must be some good stuff.

Someone on twitter:

"The Raptors are trading for Rudy Gay it's been a few years since they had someone Gay on it since Bosh left"

:chuckles:

Rudy Gay has always had a superstar look in a role player mentality. He's so indecisive and soft...not a guy I want leading my team.

Fantastic trade for the Grizzles. Save money and get better. I think if they could, they would have done this so they didn't trade away Speights, Ellington and a 1st, but ha ha, joke is on you.
