Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So wait, Jigo is Michael Kidd-Gilchrist?!?!

I am not saying he is not an elite player or he is not smart. But he seems extremely dumb in the interviews, makes me doubt if his IQ is more than 60.

Whatta ya think his wonderlic score would be? :king:

Funny... the winningest season in the franchise's history featured Ben Wallace starting and Andy Varejao coming off the bench.

Co-existing is easy - working them in to the same unit would be the trick.

We know MKG has a limited offensive game right now, but this highlight video really shows why he is the 2nd best prospect in the draft. What I love about MKG is the ferocity with which he plays the game. He just ATTACKS the offensive glass. His willingness to play defense (and his demeanor while on that end) are refreshing for a kid his age. And its not just his on-ball defense either. He constantly rotates when he's supposed to (which is one of the reasons UK was so good, they played very good help defense). He's going to rack up steals.

Neither his shot nor his ball-handling ability are great right now, but I love the fact that he always seems to make the right play. That's incredibly rare, and its one of the reasons I wouldn't worry about his offense if the Cavs took him. I think he has the ability to improve as a shooter, and he is still willing to pass the ball.

You can't not love MKG (whether you think he'll be good or not).

If you have the time, here's the full UNC-UK game from this past season.

His highlight you tube reminded me a lot of Derek Williams highlights from last year. I was not impressed with his leaping ability, but he was able to take a lot of contact and still do something with it. May a better defender on smaller ball handlers than Williams. But he is not Le#*! or Carmelo. I see him as a Paul Pierce top side, and a Marvin Williams probable.

Neither of those comparisons make any sense to me. Pierce can shoot the lights out- which Gilchrist can't do. And Gilchrist has incredible athleticism- which Pierce does not.

And the Marvin Williams comparison is particularly out of left field, as I see literally nothing in common between their games.

Based on the wacky comparisons, it almost makes me wonder whether you meant to post this in the Harrison Barnes thread.

The more I watch him, the more I think the best upside comparison is Ron Artest- but without the baggage. He's strong as a bull, and will only get stronger. I get that Derrick Williams comparison for some of his baskets where he doesn't go up incredibly strong, but manages to finish on the way down. Problem with baskets like that is that they generally don't translate at the NBA level at all. If a guy has the strength that MKG will likely have, they just might. The great thing is...that's not the only way he scores baskets. He can also be Pretty smooth and fluid on the break and finish strong in traffic.

He also has incredible heart and plays aggressively all game- hence the excellent rebounding from that position and tough defense.

This kid(d) is good, don't get me wrong but I have serious concerns about him being the #2 or 3 player in the draft. He seems like a smaller, more athletic version of Anderson Varejao. Incredible motor, hustles everywhere, gets under the skin of the opponents, coaches dream yadda yadda yadda. But the dude will have a lot of trouble scoring unless he's in the open court. Guys just don't magically go from no jump shot to an elite level one you'd expect from the #2 or 3 pick in the draft that plays a swing position.

I'm leaning towards Beal because his game seems more rounded. Beal isn't as good as MKG at those intangible things but he's pretty good. Plus Beal is a deadly scorer that I think transitions very well to the NBA game. The concern I have with Beal is his size, listed at 6'5 but he looks more 6'3ish to me.

Both guys will do well with a player like Kyrie Irving, especially MKG, but I think Beal is the best fit for the Cavaliers if we are going with a wing player at the top of the draft.

No offense, but doesn't play like any of those guys. He is Gerald Wallace with less explosion but more polished passing/offensive skills at this stage. It think Barnes fits the whole best case: Pierce worse case: Marvin Williams mold. (note: I don't think Barnes will be like Pierce). I don't think MKG will be as good as Pippen, but thats where his ceiling would as a player. Versatile defender, rebounds well, can handle the rock, etc.

I think this post is dead-on. I like MKG a lot, but he isn't going to be a #2 on championship team. I get that he brings a lot of things like leadership, defense, etc to a team, but I think has some limitations that people just aren't seeing. Does that mean I don't think he should be the consensus #2 pick in the draft? No, but I wouldn't be upset if we took Beal instead.

Let's say my Artest comparison was on- just humor me. Would you take a non-crazy Ron Artest #2 in this draft?

Definitely. You need those kinds of tenacious/versatile defenders if you want to win championships.

I can't wait until MYoung gets in here and sees the MKG - Paul Pierce comparison :chuckles:
