Mike Brown, Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe Stan Van Gundy, and Dwight Howard re-uniting in the city of Angels? That is one of the only coaching changes that could actually make the team worse lmfao. I hope they go for D'antoni though for real. His run 'n gun offense would be a hilarious failure, and would help us have two shots at the number one pick when Kobe, Nash, Jamison, Pau, and Ron all end up on the DL
lol no. svg obviously wouldn't do it, but if he were willing to go the lakers front office/kobe/nash would 100% convince howard to stay in line.

it's really too bad things ended the way they did in orlando. svg coaching would make that team unbelievable. and brown should've been fired after how idiotically he handled last season.

as is, it's probably MDA or Sloan. MDA is gonna disappoint as well tho. bet they really regret not going with shaw in the first place like they should have done.

You take the best pick n roll PG of his generation, the best one on one player of his generation and try to fit them into the Princeton? I'm baffled as to why that didn't work out.

they should introduce an offense based on the 1-5 pick n roll combined with an inside outside system around Howard with Kobe iso when it breaks down/

I think the Princenton was a terrible idea in the first place. The only suitable personnel for that offense was Gasol.

Brown's expertise is really null for this personnel and you can see why they bought in Keuster, whose role btw became a question mark when they bought in Eddie Jordan this off season. Brown was way over his head, couldn't even put together a consistent staff.

They should look into bringing in Van Gundy or Sloan. Don't even look at D'Antoni.

I'm surprised the top 2 plays from his offense on the Lakers this early season wasn't MambISO and a pick and pop with Nash and Pau.

I haven't read through the thread, but Mike Brown getting fired this early in the season is absurd. We all know he isn't the best coach, and his record has been mostly inflated due to being on good teams, but there is only one way this could have happened this early. Kobe had to have requested it.

And actually just last week I was telling my friend how I think he is going to get fired later on in the year. Didn't think it would be this soon though.

One would think, right? I am getting the vibe that Kobe is eventually going to hate Dwight Howard. They are literally two totally different personalities. Dwight is Mr. Fun Loving, wants everyone to like him, never gets pissed off and channels that emotion onto the hardwood...

Kobe is Mr. Serious, Mr. Icewater veins, I hope you hate me, I'm going to make you hate me (I'm going to tell myself.... Dwight Howard is very talented, but he clearly can't impose his will on the game like Bryant, or even Shaquille O'Neal. Sometimes Dwight's skills and talent can win you ball games, but Dwight is not Shaquille O'Neal, he'll never come close to Shaquille's dominance because of his personality.

Shaquille is every bit as funny of a guy off the court (he's funnier) but unlike Dwight, Shaq could get pissed out on the floor and just start imposing his largeness on the game and pretty much score the ball at will. I have only seen Dwight have a Shaquille O'Neal type performance one time. That was when Larry Drew and the Hawks just dared Howard alone to beat them and Dwight ended up with 45 and 20.

There is only one that can unite the 2 totally different forces in Kobe, the black mamba, and Dwight "I wear all white" to church Howard.....

Q: Firing Mike Brown after five games: good move or bad move?

Brian Windhorst, ESPN.com: If the Lakers really felt he was not the person for this job and they have a legitimate replacement plan in place, then doing it now was a good move. It is incredibly unfair to Brown but I can understand the team's thinking. Especially if he'd lost Kobe, which certainly seems to be the case.

Q: Kobe Bryant publicly expressed support for Mike Brown. Do you think he and his teammates played a role in Brown's firing?

Windhorst: Without a doubt. The Lakers did not consult Kobe when they hired Brown and that created an undercurrent that never allowed Brown to have a solid foundation. Brown and Kobe did work together, but at times they feuded fiercely behind the scenes. Kobe offered public support but he was never fully invested in Brown.

Q: Who should be the next permanent coach of the Lakers?

Windhorst: There is no slam-dunk candidate. There has been so much attention on the offense but the Lakers' defense has been their biggest issue thus far and their depth. Just assuming an offense-minded coach like Mike D'Antoni would fix everything would be a mistake. Everyone is going to run to Phil Jackson but you need to go back and look at his final season -- it was not his best work. Nate McMillan and Jerry Sloan make sense on several levels and I would expect the Lakers have kicked the tires.

Q: Will the Lakers turn it around this season and become a contender?

Windhorst: I always expected them to be a contender but I never considered them the favorite. When they do jell -- and that would've happened under Brown eventually -- they are going to look good. But they have some challenges, especially in the way they're trying to fit together, that aren't going to be corrected by changing the coach.

Nothing softens the sting of being fired from the Los Angeles Lakers organization like a chicken sandwich ... just ask ex-coach Mike Brown ... who hit up a Chick-fil-A right after he got the chop today. TMZ obtained photos of Brown hanging at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA around 11:30 AM ... just a few hours after news broke that he was fired from the team over their dismal 1-4 start. Romeo has an opinion on drowning your job sorrows in chicken. Keep your chin up and fork down, Mike Brown!

No chance in Hell Phil comes back to coach them. Way, way too much stacked against it.
