MKC: With Manziel's upside uncertain, Browns will look at all QB options

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My biggest takeaway is that the speculation that Haslam forced the Johnny pick is spot on. No way would your organization ever consider moving on from their guy even if, "he knocks it out of the park the last two games."

Haslam made the pick, Johnny has done nothing to impress this staff. That's what I'm getting from this, just reading between the lines.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too early to speculate about this.

But Mariota is not worth the RGIII style trade, and I love MM. Also, one start and we are already talking about this? MKC must have run out of bubble gum.

This is my big take away from the article.

Hopefully Farmer will spend this offseason acquiring playmakers to round out the rest of the team, and then we will spend the year evaluating Johnny which will allow us to reboot at QB next offseason if necessary with a bunch of talent already in place.

I agree; that sentence combined with the article talking about trading up seem to contradict.

I'm really not sure what the Browns are going to do at QB. Odds are they stick with Manziel but if they go in a different direction, I would think it's doubtful Farmer gives up a RG3 haul for Mariota or any of the QBs no matter how much he likes them.

I don't think they get into the Cutler saga. I can see them looking into Ponder or Locker on a make good type of contract. Maybe Sanchez potentially. Also, they can buy pretty low on Geno Smith if they want to do another shot in the dark type play.

In the draft, Bryce Petty or Hundley would potentially be available at their draft position without moving up.

My preference is that they stick with Manziel and try to trade for Foles.

Or at the very least, get Hoyer 2.0 from the Redskins.

Of the 4 main quarterbacks in last years draft (Carr, Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater), we pick the only one that looks absolutely clueless out there. I'm sure part of it is coaching, but the other 3 have to deal with the same issues.

Now the other three may not amount to much over their careers, but at least they aren't embarrassing to watch and root for. Bortles, Bridgewater, and Carr have at least shown flashes of quarterback potential.

We've seen nothing... Even Manziel's moxie is gone.

His moxie was all hype. He's not moxious enough to compete with pro level moxie.

Problem with sticking with Manziel for another year is that we probably won't have two 1st round picks again in the 2016 draft. We have the ammunition to make a move that won't set the franchise back now, in 2015 draft. After that point, an RGIII style trade would be damaging.

Btw, Hundley stinks. Petty is okay.

Personally, I'd like to see a decisive move.... Whatever that might be.

There no doubt in my mind that the Cavs will be looking at every vet qb available this offseason. it would be silly of them to draft another qb at this juncture.

Don't hold your breath. Common thought seems to be grab a veteran (ie shitty) quarterback, maybe off the scrap heap or bargain bin, and then draft a developmental guy in the 4th. Sounds like what we'd do.

Actually, we prefer to pick our developmental QB with the 22nd pick every few years.

Yeah, don't worry, we're highly specialized in doing that too.

I mean who would want Bridgewater and Odell Beckham Jr? Fuck that!

Yeah. Beckham was my hoped addition to our WR core, but nah, we didn't need any receivers.

There is a chance Buffalo finishes with the 22nd pick in the draft if they win 1 more game. If that happens we should trade the pick for a 3rd rounder straight up immediately. The 22nd pick is like nuclear waste to the Browns.

Actually, we should get a solid long snapper at that spot. Yeah... :chuckle:

God this thread is depressing the fuck out of me. Time to start drinking!!
