So Long, Mo Gotti Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's funny..

We traded Mo to the Clippers, got Kyrie Irving out of it, and now we're likely to get him back.

Anyone remember this:

The Los Angeles Clippers traded point guard Baron Davis and their 2011 first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon.

The Cavaliers announced the deal Thursday, three hours before the NBA's trade deadline.

"We're excited about the future here," coach Byron Scott said.

Yes Byron, we're definitely excited about the future here.

Agreed.. Imagine if we could fuse the two together?

We'd have an Austrabamian

Seriously though, when talking about contract value relative to the cap we need to move our minds out of the 2011-2014 era where the cap might rise 2-3 million per year. It's making a massive jump after next year for two consecutive years and it will affect negotiations and what players get beginning this offseason.

Mo at 3 million per year this offseason would be very solid.

Indeed.. long-term deals made next season should be looked at as having a ~15% appreciation (with respect to the team) in value each year thereafter.

In other words, Mo can sign with us for $3.376M with 4.5% raises. He'd likely get a 3 year deal. The cap increases to $89M and $108M each following year, respectively.

That means Mo takes up 5% of the cap the first year, 3.96% the next, and 3.41% the final year of the deal; meaning, while he's likely to get raises (which isn't guaranteed), his contract value, with respect to the salary cap, diminishes over time.

FWIW, without raises, the average over three years is ~4% of the cap.

Delly already has done the fusion dance with Jimmer Fredette, creating the Jimmervedova we saw in one of the Finals games. Just not fair to expect him to duplicate that often or with new guys.

Caps going up and the guy just scored 17 pint per game over the past 2 months in Charlotte.

He's not going to be looking for the Vet min. And across the board with agents knowing the cap rise is coming, players are going to dig in for the best deal they can get.

If Mo comes on board for the min, great. Just don't see it happening. And not sure how many better players we can get with that 3 million per year MLE exception.

Maybe not. But when this roster is healthy, I don't see where Mo fits. I prefer Delly as the back-up when he gets to play with a healthy team.

I mean let's be real, when this team is fully healthy there are no ball handling duties to go around. It's Kyrie or it's LeBron. One of those two will be in the game the vast majority of the time. So Mo feels like an insurance policy in case one of them gets hurt. Which is a nice thing to have, just not sure if it's worth the whole MLE. Let's see who is willing to come here for the MLE first.

That list is for the PGs and then you can click on the other tabs for all the other positions. What guys do you think are realistic better options than Mo for our MLE(which is smaller than most teams MLE).
Not saying there aren't any better options, but just want to get other peoples takes on what we can realistically get for that 3 million per year. It's not going to be much more than what you described(depth, insurance policy, mix and match with Delly)

Kyrie and James play better together. Mo allows them to rest, simultaneously, which allows them to play more minutes together. It also means we do not need to play them 36+mpg game.

To that end, James isn't getting any younger, and Irving simply cannot continue racking up the 4th most minutes in the league.

It also would mean that Lebron would have 3 capable three point shooters around him at almost all times he is on the floor

Chris Haynes was on Bull and Fox and metioned Mo would want a multi-year deal and the Cavs really wanted him last season.

We would have to use the MLE on Mo.

There should be one big Safari thread, imagine that. RCF Safari Trademarked. Just update whatever scene were excitedly viewing.

Safari threads are fun to read for one, you'd never imagine what kind of comments come from a liquor store's free WiFi.

I agree with Rich and have many question marks myself, but gosh dang he can still ball and having him back would bring back memories. I'd sign him for the min for sure and I'd look to see what else is available with the MLE first as well. However:

Just this year.

And the memories.

be happy to have him back...would also love to have Danny green back too over Shump. Also means they can stop trying to shop the 24th pick. Giving away picks just makes the team get older and will end up like the Heat. To much talent in this years draft to be throwing it away. Team also needs to be developing it's young players.
