Great idea, let's surround LBJ with guys that forced him to leave in the first place...

I'm not advocating getting him, nor am I against it, but come on, no one is suggesting he'd be playing second or even third fiddle in scoring. He'd only need to facilitate. If he had the occasional shot, great, shoot. He wouldn't be out there long anyhow, particularly if they weren't falling.

Did Mo Williams learn how to play defense and did he figure out how to not fold in the postseason? If yes to both, sign me up. If not, pass.
I still can't forget Tony Parker, embarrassing Mo in the NBA finals. :(

Are people dumb enough to not realize Mo would be in a completely different role. He'd be like our 7th guy and not the number 2 option. Having Mo in that role would be valuable. He was good for Portland in the playoffs last year

I don't know if Mo would even be the 7th guy. In the playoffs Kyrie and Lebron are going to be in the game for close to 40 minutes a game and handle most of the ball handling duties. Mo wouldn't need to run the team for long stretches or be looked upon to run this team like he was the last time he was here. Role and expectations are what determine how you look at a player. Mo is not a number 2 option and failed in that role but as a 7th or 8th option he is overqualified and would thrive.

He was really bad for Portland in the playoffs last year. Shot 37% from the field and played bad defense.
Mo's a good guy, but he's a lousy defender and he has throughout his career under-performed in the playoffs. That's just not an appealing combination to me. I have a bad feeling he'd be missing shots and getting burned by Lou Williams/Dennis Shroder/Aaron Brooks/Andre Miller.

I'm not convinced the Cavs interest in Mo is that legitimate...because if it was, why wouldn't we have tried making a run at him this summer when he was a free agent? We were looking for backup PG depth then too, and he was available. I don't think he was even on our radar.

But now we're looking to get him when the price of acquiring him is the Haywood contract, a young player like Harris/Delly, AND a 2nd round draft pick? It is really hard to justify using our last remaining tradable assets on a backup PG that amounts to a half-season rental before he's a free agent again.

We also wouldn't be able to make any moves this summer besides re-signing our own guys.

T-Wolves source Darren Wolfson is the only one connecting Mo with Cleveland, so far as I can tell. I'm not making anything of this rumor at all at this point.

As far as next year is concerned, if he worked out well this year, with his non-Bird rights, Cavs would be able to bring him back for more than the minimum. I mean, not the $3.7M or whatever he is making now, but maybe $2M or so. He's a guy who might give a small "hometown" discount, though I doubt he would get a better offer elsewhere anyway. Unless they use the MLE on a PG, it'd be hard for the Cavs to find a way to offer more than the minimum to anyone else as the backup PG. That would just leave them with Delly.

That's partly why I have come around to the view that trading for a PG does make some sense. Still not convinced Mo is the right guy, or that using Haywood in that trade maximizes the value of that trade chip. But he is available, the Cavs have shown they can execute a trade with Minny, and a trade theoretically could be done.
