Mock Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
that is actually not too bad except:

1) av still needs to be traded. does he really need to suffer from another inevitable long-term injury for everyone to realize this?

2) i think cavs might need to move up a few spots to get lamb, maybe not tho

1) We won't get value good enough to move Andy in my opinion. His injury this year was a fluke, someone hit his hand as hard as possible--that can happen to anyone. Last years injury is more worrisome, but that may have been a fluke also. The 2 years prior he played 76 and 81 games. And if we have 4 bigs that can play--I think we can keep his minutes down, which helps even more. AV-25 to 28MPG, Davis 30 MPG, TT 28 MPG, Moultrie 10-12MPG

2) I think you are correct--I think he does go earlier--but for my "dream" scenario I was going based on Ford's mock and he does not have Lamb in the first round. I will say after watching him again last night, he does look smaller than I originally thought. But man can he shoot it--and I do think he has a good first step--and he spent quite a bit of time running the point for KY this year.

Does anyone think Davis can play SF for 5 minutes a game? AV-TT-Davis-Batum-Irving Talk about a defensive nightmare for the opponent. Might have to put Moultrie in for TT, for some floor spacing.

I'll play.

For simplicity purposes I will only include our picks no trades. I will include FA signings.

Cavs are awarded the 4th and 24th picks. Plus 33 and 35th.

With the 4th pick the Cavs select Andre Drummond C, UCONN.
Franchise centers are the hardest positions to fill. With the Cavs regretting passing on Valanciunas, I predict they will try to secure Drummond. Other options include Beal and Barnes.

With the 24th pick, the Cavs select Moe Harkless SF St. Johns. Any other draft he would be a pick in the teens but the depth of this draft allows him to fall. I think he can be a starting SF in this league and offers athleticism and defensive potential.

At 33, the Cavs select John Jenkins SG Vanderbilt. A solid shooter who can hit the three.

At 35 the Cavs select Tyshawn Taylor PG Kansas. Kid just seems like a winner to me. A guy that will carve his role.

FA

The Cavs resign Alonzo Gee to a modest contract to serve as a wing.

The Cavs may look at Asik but I don't see him here with Varejao and Thompson also here.

PG: Irving/Taylor/
SG Jenkins/Gibson/Harris
SF Gee/Harkless/
PF Thompson/Varejao/Harangody
C Drummond/Samuels/Kaun

I think this is somewhat realistic and exciting to envision.

Going into the offseason were looking at:
PG-Kyrie,Gibson
SG-
SF-Casspi,Walton
PF-Thompson
C-Andy

....none of which are worth starting in the NBA, outside of Kyrie. IDC what anyone says about Andy he is an injury prone 6th man that shows flashes because theres no one else around.
Were only at $23 mil against the cap, but Barons contract will put us at $40 mil to count against the floor.

Draft Night:
1st-Draft Andre Drummond

Trade LAL 1st + NOH 2nd for the rights to Terrence Ross. One of the teams with multiple picks in the top 20 will bite. Especially if we can provide financial relief.
#37- Darius Miller SF. Provide bench scoring, and is a natural role player. Would be comfortable in our system, and would probably contribute right away.

Free Agency
Resign Gee, Sloan, & Samardo.

Sign Hasheem Thabeet (Hes looked like a scrub thus far, but would be a nice role player. How many blocks can he get before he fouls out?)
Sign Michael "F'n" Redd. Decent role player, good scorer, can stretch the floor. Can log longer minutes if need be.

Next Years Team
PG-Kyrie/Sloan/Gibson
SG-Ross/Redd/Casspi
SF-Gee/D.Miller/Walton
PF-Andy/Thompson/Samuels
C-Drummond/Thabeet

We have enough PGs that can play SG for this team to be decent. Ths bigs minutes can be moved around. Aslong as Thompson, Andy, and Drummond get theres Idc who gets the remaining minutes.

One more plan--assuming we pick 4th.

Draft: Using players available per this: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft...raft-version-2
4- Beal
25-Moultrie- Athletic big, decent jump shot--
33-Doron Lamb--I like this guy a lot--he is one of the best shooters in college and I think he can even play some backup PG
34-Jae Crowder- Tough kid, can guard 3 spots, he is one of those glue guys, that just does things to help his team win

Re-Sign Alonzo Gee
Make offers depending on who we draft for: Asik (R), Batum(R), Ilyasova (U), Mahinmi(U) Hawes (U)

Hawes (28)-AV (20)
TT (28)-Moultrie (13)-AV (7)
Batum (32)-Crowder (16)-Gee-Walton-Casspi
Beal (30)-Gee(18)-Gibson?
Irving(36)-D Lamb(12)

Watched some of the 76ers-Heat game and Hawes is a pretty damn good player--still young--he may be a great fit with TT and AV. What he costs will be important--but if reasonable I would love to see him on the team. Batum would be a perfect fit at the three for us. Very good defender, can knock down the open three, doesn't need the ball in his hands which would work with Irving and Beal. This would be a potentially great Defensive team--with tons of shooters and a few guys who can get their own shot. We might have to trade 34 with 25 to move up to get Moultrie--if so, Gee would get the backup SF minutes instead of Crowder (he might get them anyway--that would be a battle for minutes with those two).

Last one for now--assuming we pick 4th and Batum is not a possibilty as free agent

Draft: Using players available per this: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft...raft-version-2
4- Beal
25-Jeff Taylor- Athletic wing, good defender, who has become a good three point shooter
33-Lamb
34-Melo

Re-Sign Alonzo Gee
Make offers depending on who we draft for: Asik (R), Batum(R), Ilyasova (U), Mahinmi(U) Hawes (U)

AV (28)-TT (12) Melo (8)
Ilyasova (30) TT (18)
Taylor (32)-Gee(16)-Walton-Casspi
Beal (32)-Gee(11)-Lamb(5)Gibson?
Irving(36)-Lamb(12)

Very athletic, Great D potential, good rebounding--quite a few great shooters--and a few guys who can get their own shot.

I'd like to play.

Our roster at the end of the year looks like:
pg-Kyrie Irving, Boobie Gibson, Donald Sloan, Lester Hudson
sg-Anthony Parker, Alonzo Gee, Manny Harris
sf-Omri Casspi, Luke Walton, Luke Harangody
pf-Antawn Jamison, Tristan Thompson
c-Anderson Varejao, Samardo Samuels, Semih Erden

With 6 players under contract going into 2012-13 and a void of talent to begin with, there are plenty of holes to fill. Assuming things stay 'normal,' I have us drafting #4, #25, #33 and #34. Now, going into the draft, I would pull a HUGE wild card and trade Luke Walton to Washington for Andray Blatche (yes, I said Andray Blatche), their 2012 2nd Round pick and their 2013 1st Round pick (unprotected). I do this for a few reasons. First, Blatche is immensely talented. Second, he'd come with a high 2nd rounder this year and a high 1st rounder next year (the year of the center). Also, a change of scenery, with a point guard the likes of Kyrie, Coach Scott to 'fix' him, and a fanbase and organization to support him, I think he could perform much better. If he doesn't, he could help the organization to another Lottery pick in 2013 for two more pieces to rebuild with. So, the 2012 Draft sees us pick #4, #25, #32, #33 and #34.
#4--Brad Beal-6'4" SG-Florida (hopeful running mate for Kyrie)
#25--Quincy Miller-6'9" SF-Baylor (or Tony Mitchell-6'9" F-North Texas if Miller isn't available)
#32--Festus Ezeli-6'11" C-Vanderbilt (big, traditional center)
#33--Tomas Satoransky-6'7" SG/PG-Czech Republic (perfect 3rd guard, can play SG, PG and SF)
#34--Rudy Gobert-7'0" C-France (might not come over right away, but will be an asset going forward)
Other players to look into, should they be available later (Linos Chrysikopoulos-6’8” SF Greece, Christian Watford-6’8” SF Indiana)

After the draft, we look like:
pg-Kyrie Irving, Boobie Gibson
sg-Brad Beal, Tomas Satoransky
sf-Quincy Miller, Omri Casspi
pf-Tristan Thompson, Anderson Varejao
c-Andray Blatche, Festus Ezeli, Rudy Gobert

I, then, resign Alonzo Gee (3yrs, $9M), Manny Harris (3yrs, $4M), Samardo Samuels (3yrs, $5M) and offer some camp invites unguaranteed contracts out of Summer camp and leave the rest of the cap room for another year, or to help facilitate trades.

Our 2012-13 Cavaliers look like:
pg-Kyrie Irving, Boobie Gibson, CAMP PG
sg-Brad Beal, Tomas Satoransky (keep overseas for a year?), Manny Harris
sf-Alonzo Gee, Quincy Miller, Omri Casspi
pf-Tristan Thompson, Anderson Varejao, Samardo Samuels
c-Andray Blatche, Festus Ezeli, Rudy Gobert (keep overseas for another year, or two)

And we have 2013 1st Round Picks from Washington, Miami, POSSIBLY Sacramento and our own. That means we have two Lottery picks in the year of the center, meaning we have two chances to get Nerlens Noel, Steven Adams, Cody Zeller, Alex Len, Jeff Withey, Alec Brown, Justin Hamilton and others (not to mention Shabazz Muhammad). Risky? Yes. But it could be worth it.

You have to remember the NBA roster maximum is going down from 15 to 13.

That is incorrect. The total roster number is not changing. They are considering keeping the present "active" roster at 13 instead of going back down to 12.

I like a lot of what you have here..some different ideas to consider for sure. But I don't get why so many think coach Scott can "fix" a big man. What leads us to this conclusion? His success with JJ, Hollins, Erden, Samuels? If anything, he does terrible with players that don't "buy in". I do like Blatche's talent, and maybe a change of scenery would be the ticket, I just don't think it will be because Scott can fix him.

I don't think Miller is there at #25, I have only seen one mock that had him past that point-and it this is the case he won't come out. I would snag him at 25 if he is there for sure.

I want to make a more realistic one.
In the draft, we get David, Ma. Plumlee, Bufford, and Johnson-Odom.

In free agency, we sign Daniel Green, Hickson, and Gee.

So our roster is:

PG- Irving/Sloan/Taylor
SG- Green/Gibson/Bufford
SF- Gee/Casspi/Johnson-Odom
PF- Davis/Hickson/Samuels
C- Thompson/Varejao/Plumlee

25-Moultrie- Athletic big, decent jump shot--
33-Doron Lamb

I like Moultrie a lot. I dont think there's any chance he lasts past 18. But, i hope you're right.

Lamb may not be available at 25, let alone 33. He's jumped up a lot of draft boards in the last month.

AV (28)-TT (12) Melo (8)
Ilyasova (30) TT (18)
Taylor (32)-Gee(16)-Walton-Casspi
Beal (32)-Gee(11)-Lamb(5)Gibson?
Irving(36)-Lamb(12)

You would throw money at Ilyasova so TT could stay on the bench? That's terrible.

You would throw money at Ilyasova so TT could stay on the bench? That's terrible.

Why does it matter who starts? He will still get 30+ minutes a night. He starts on the bench because I am pairing a floor spacing big with Andy.

When the opposing starting center goes out we sub Tristan to match up with the other teams backup Center. Then when Andy comes back in--Tristan slides to PF. Ilyasova is a perfect compliment to play with AV and Tristan.
