Mychel Thompson waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

The best part was the fact that he looked composed and calm in the face of an improving Celtics team. He definitely deserves to see more time.

Trade Sessions ASAP, and start Boobie at the backup PG. We need more minutes for all of the SGs we have to develop: MT, Skyenga, Manny

Isn't this statement like an oxymoron or something??? :chuckles:

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

It would be quite a turnaround if he becomes a reliable perimeter shooter after being such a poor shooter at Pepperdine.

Can you or anybody tell us what he did well at Pepperdine? RKeys talked about him like he was mainly a scorer.

What are his strengths and weaknesses? I haven't seen much coverage on him.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

His brother Klay looked good for Golden State. He claims they have similar games. He looked pretty good defensively last night. He probably isnt as fast as manny but I agree with those that said he looked patient. Nice to see him calmly put 2 in in rhythm after a miss.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Austin Carr is one of the few people that get a chance to watch the Cavaliers practice and he was saying in the pre-season that Thompson has a wet jumper. It looked bad in the pre-season after Mychal was getting his shit stuffed in and generally looking like a rookie. I think Thompson is more athletic than people realize, he can play Delonte-esque Defense and scrap for rebounds and loose balls.

I really like Thompson and I hope he gets all of AP's minutes later into the season. With Gee playing excellent, it is time to move Casspi to the bench and start Alonzo. I like a bench of Thompson, Casspi, Thompson

Which one are you talking about? The "start as a backup" bit or the "Boobie at PG" part?

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

It will be interesting to see Thompson Tuesday. He had a big advantage of not being scouted much. But the same team is going to see him Tuesday. I really hope he gets some minutes Tuesday and see how he plays when the opponent is definitely aware of him. Whenever a guy comes in out of nowhere I think he has an advantage that might make him look better than he is. However, his defense looked good and I don't think being the new guy helps much on the defensive end of the court.

I will give Chris Grant credit, the undrafted pickups he gets all seem to have some potential. When they're on the court (Thompson, Samardo, Harris when he was up here) I can see why a team would be interested in them. They all have a game, they might not all pan out, but I can at least see potential. If we could get a 6th man or a solid role player for free (not using pick and as young as a typical rookie) that really can speed up the rebuild.

Fun season, a new guy to watch every few weeks.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Looks like he should be getting more playing time on Tuesday with both Gibson and Parker out.

Question will be does he start

na i think Gee should get the start.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Yeah, I bet Gee starts at the 2. Could be an interesting lineup, but the bench unit will be far less effective.

I figured gee would be the probable choice, but it would definitely effect the 2nd unit and they have been one of better parts of this year. Either way im excited about both thompson and gee.

Mike Brown would start Thompson just to keep Gee in his "comfort zone" and maintain his rotations, but I don't think Scott is beholden to that logic. If he wants to use the game as a chance to see how Gee would look in the starting lineup, he will.

I thought I made a funny but the Bobbie at PG was definitely funnier!!! :chuckles:

Austin Carr said:
I was also impressed with Mychel Thompson. He came into the game in a crucial part of the game. I was a little surprised Byron threw him in there. But he stepped up big time and he shot with a lot of confidence.

Coach Scott just has an excellent pulse on his team. He strung Samardo along to where Samardo was just really hungry and he couldn’t wait to get in the game.

Byron must’ve told Mychel to be ready. And he came in and played like he was looking for some playing time. He defended well, getting over picks. I thought this was interesting.

Mychel has played better than I expected, his stroke is pretty nice

Daniel Gibson, Anthony Parker hurt

Associated Press
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- The Cavaliers are running out of shooting guards.

Starter Anthony Parker and reserve Daniel Gibson will miss Tuesday's game against Boston with injuries, and Cleveland coach Byron Scott doesn't know how long he'll be without the two players.

Parker has been bothered by a sore lower back, which limited him to 14 minutes in Sunday's win over the Celtics. Parker sat out Monday's practice as the team prepared for their second game in three days with the Celtics.

Scott said Parker was hurting early in the game at Boston.

"I just remember him going up and down the floor a couple times and he was kind of grimacing," Scott said. "Then he gave me the sign to take him out. I don't think it had to do with playing 10 minutes in the first quarter."

Parker, who is averaging 6 points and 23 minutes, sat out one game last week because of his back.

Gibson stayed behind in Boston on Monday to have more tests on his sore neck. A team spokesman said Gibson is at Beth Israel Hospital and the Cavs do not know when Gibson will return. Gibson said his neck began to hurt during Friday night's game against New Jersey. Gibson is averaging 7.1 points and his the Cavs' best perimeter defender.

The Cavs don't have many options to replace Parker or Gibson, who started the one game Parker sat out.

Rookie Mychel Thompson played the entire fourth quarter on Sunday against the Celtics. Also, 6-foot-6 Alonzo Gee, who has been playing small forward, could move into the backcourt as he has done at times this season.

There's also a chance the team could recall Manny Harris from their Canton affiliate in the NBA Development League. Harris was named the D-League's player of the week after averaging 25 points and 7.3 rebounds in three games.
