Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

From 9:30 tonight:

Cavs guard Daniel Gibson remains in Boston hospital being treated for "soft tissue infection" in his neck.

Gibson is being treated with antibiotics

--------

Sure looks like we'll see more of Mychel Thompson on Tuesday.

Daniel Gibson, Anthony Parker hurt

There's also a chance the team could recall Manny Harris from their Canton affiliate in the NBA Development League. Harris was named the D-League's player of the week after averaging 25 points and 7.3 rebounds in three games.

Um, how about not possible? That is, unless this Sessions trade goes through :chuckles:

I'm sure as hell glad the A.P knows how NBA rules work.

We can't just "recall" Manny from the D-League, this isn't the MLB.

I mean, they could know the rules & just didn't specify that the Cavs would have to cut somebody from the roster, but I would think they would have easily just added a little "..but would have to create a roster spot for that to happen", if that were the case.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

I'm not saying that AP is the ticket to winning. ..

well I'll agree with this part . . . the second is a gross oversimplification, his offensive ineptness is only the tip of his iceberg of "suck"itudeness

he doesn't have the quickness or lateral movement to effectively guard the opposing 2

his veteran leadership is vasty overrated and his assists and rebounds are similarly unspectacular

he's probably a nice guy but a don't want him starting given everything else

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Mike Brown would start Thompson just to keep Gee in his "comfort zone" and maintain his rotations, but I don't think Scott is beholden to that logic.

oh how times change is that a knock against your favorite coach of all time . . . I don't miss Mr nonsensical rotations one bit . . . no one is singing his praises in LA

I think he was the sacrificial lamb...

Of course it wasn't a knock. Mike running a team expected to win a championship, and Byron with a team expected to finish in the lottery have completely different goals and expectations with their respective Cavs teams.

Phil Jackson is a HOF coach and that team was constructed around the triangle offense. The Lakers attempted to bring in a PG so they could run a traditional offense, but as we all know that got shot down by the league and then they gave away Odom for cap space they haven't used, while Fisher and Artest level of play continues to drop off. So Mike Brown enters with entirely new systems to implement and no actual time to teach them?

I would think even you might cut him some slack ...

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Mychel Thompson will be starting tonight according to Jason Lloyd.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Don't know how to feel about his performance tonight. Looked alright at times, but had a couple of avoidable turnovers. Liked that he had the 4 assists, but only Omri had a worse +/- tonight. But noting the fact that he had only played 12 minutes in his career before tonight, and had to start, I'm satisfied with his performance. But Gibson needs to hurry the hell up and get back out there. As for weak sauce... Take all the time you need.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

He managed to make Ray Allen a passer in the first half (and Allen proved to be a pretty good one in the first half), then Allen stepped it up as a scorer in the 3rd quarter.

I liked how he kept the ball moving on offense and didn't look afraid, though he looked physically outclassed in the 3rd. At the end of the first half, he looked gassed and suffered some minor tweak ("Mychel Thompson comes to the bench clutching his left arm or shoulder . He's gone back to the locker room"), but kept playing. Liked what he did in the 1st half. He just seemed comfortable and didn't make a lot of mental errors. Not a good 3rd quarter.

I did not expect he would play around 30 minutes tonight.

I did like how, as you said, he wasn't afraid. Looked comfortable. Drove to the bucket.

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

his rotations drove me crazy here , so no i won't cut him any slack

I don't see what that has to do with his situation in LA ... but did Byron drive you crazy by not starting Gee?

Re: Mychel Thompson makes his case

Wow, he was 0-6 FG, zero points and zero rebounds in 30minutes....that's VERY difficult to do.
