Need another wing.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Perhaps Griff can get his friends in the Valley of the Sun to maybe parlay Gerald Green over here.

Pretty much a poor man's Jimmy Butler in many aspects and a capable defender at least. He's in a contract year though but he's been more than solid on the Suns.

The Suns are definitely starting to look like a lottery team with personnel issues of their own in a loaded backcourt and with KD and Russ back the Suns now have more losses or tied than OKC and NOP.

It's just hard to see what the pricetag would be for the guy. Probably just a pipe dream...

Gerald Green is just a slightly less dumb J.R. Smith...

That's one of the worst player comparisons I've seen in a long time...

I think it's obvious, despite all the talk of a need for a rim protector, the Cavs need another wing.

Look at the front court minutes:

Love 36 MPG
Thompson 26 MPG
Varejao 25 MPG

Those minutes are sustainable. I mean, I wish they would work a 4th big into the rotation, but their three bigs aren't being overworked. That's the least number of minutes Varejao has played (per game) since 2006-07. Rarely does The Bullshit Whisperer say anything worth listening to, but I agreed with a recent observation he made in his chat that there were only 4 bigs in the game who would get minutes on this team. That number was hyperbole, but I believe he is absolutely correct to emphasize the difficulty the Cavs would face in acquiring a big who would be able to play more than spot minutes.

On the wing, on the other hand, LeBron is playing 38+ MPG. Marion is playing mostly SG, of all things. Joe Harris is getting minutes. I know Mike Miller has been out, and will return soon, but I think Zach Lowe was absolutely right when he said at the beginning of the year that the Cavs' biggest need was another wing, preferably one who can defend.

Personally, I would welcome sending Dion out to get this wing (whoever it is). But however it's done, I think it needs to happen.

Also, there are lot of good centers and rim protectors who will be available in the free agency. So, as of now the priority is a wing. The rim protector can be someone like O'Neal for few months.

If I am looking at PHX, I would target P.J. Tucker. If they are going in the tank, they may want to get out if his contract (which might be jus out of reach of the the TPE, unfortunately.) Good 3 & D option for this team.

Had a dream we got Gerald Green and Miles Plumlee for our TPE. I knew it was a dream because I was throwing up rainbows (skittles style).

This is a very good catch, and a name I missed. This is the sort of player/contract we should be looking at -- someone on a multi-year contract on a team that's struggling with potential cap issues in a year or two. Only problem is that, as you say, his $5.7M salary this year won't fit within the TPE.

Thoughts on Quincy Pondexter? Any way to get him and Koufos? I always forget the execption rules - can you combine it with a pick and or players?

Also with Jabari Parker going down, does this make players from the Bucks available? Jared Dudley?

I think if the Bucks don't find themselves being competitive over the next month and a half we will see the Bucks shopping a lot of non-core players, with Dudley being one of those players.

Since CLE should have a goal to win the championship this year, I would (with reluctance) be willing to move Waiters to acquire Tucker, since he is under contract for two more years and Waiters may well have a more expensive extension kicking in during the last year. In the short term (1-2 years), Tucker may provide improved perimeter defensive, more consistent three point shooting, and enhanced team chemistry, while the Cavs have Delly and Harris to fill in Waiters role on the bench.

Dudley couldn't get any minutes with the Clippers last year. He was specifically brought in by Doc to be their 3 and D guy and he ended up pulling him: not a good sign for him getting minutes on a playoff contender.

I don't think we're getting any Memphis players this year.

Unless we are getting a boarderline All-Star center we are not trading Waiters at least not this season.

Dudley was pretty bad for the Clips last year but has played really well this year. He's shot the ball well and has been a good perimeter defender. His on-off numbers are really good (+11 per 100 possessions). Perhaps playing in a less stressful situation has helped him. I don't know if he will keep up this type of play, but if he does, he would be a decent get.

Maybe, but Doc saw the same thing in Phoenix when Dudley put up good numbers and he specifically brought him in to do the same things with the Clips. I would be very wary of him as I'm worried he's one of those guys who only produces on bad teams.

Tucker is the more interesting candidate IMO. Doubt Phoenix has much use for Waiters as they have three ball dominant guards already but that would save them money the next 1.5 years and an additional contract year after that.. (On a side note, Waiters may do well in Phoenix - Horny knows how to get the most out of his guards).

You could then use the TPE and some second rounders to get a guy like Biyombo (save Charlotte money and they get some picks for a guy who is leaving anyway). Tucker plus Biyombo would be realistic gets which would really solidify our bench and add some skillsets we don't have
