Well, maybe you don't post or browse nearly as much as other people. I see it multiple times pretty much every time I log on. Not sure discussing forum features is "wasting" anyone's time when you run a board, but okay...I guess...

There are plenty more forum features that carry more weight and discussion than negative rep. Maybe some people put to much stock into their online persona, but okay...I guess...

Chris, intelligence is so "old". I'll be removing my negative rep shortly because I don't believe neg. rep either.

The mods do a great job on this site keeping intelligent posts going.

In my experience on other boards that do have negative rep (which never was abused) the people who worried about negative rep usually weren't good posters and didn't last long.

That's obviously not the case with you Chris as you're universally respected here. I'm just not really sure why you're concerning yourself with such a minor thing on this site.

its got nothing ot do with an online persona, its the equivalent of sharing your opinion and some fucktard on the internet says 'yea fuck you, youre dumb' with zero explanation of how they disagree, which would turn into a discussion on the topic.

max cmon man, everyone sorts by looking for the posts everyone likes. if anything, 'disagree' brings more attention to the post rather than less.

and yea, in a (less than) perfect world, an explanation would be given to the rating but thats not even close to whats happening. its just 'i disrespect your opinion so much that im just going to click one button and not even respond to it.

and its got nithing to do with you being right or wrong, if the majority of the board feels one way, why not go that route?

btw, this isnt me trying to 'manufacture a win on an internet argument' by getting into why youre responding and what it means, my point is that i do care about it because its irksome and a lot of other people do too. We're not weird (were in the majority) and we're not taking the internet anymore seriously than someone commenting about people who dont like negative rep.

To be fair I only rate posts "dumb" when I feel as though they are trollish or when I literally think they are dumb.

I do agree though that many misuse the function and rate posts dumb either to troll people or because they have a personal vendetta against someone. For example, I remember I disagreed with someone in a game thread and they flagged the next 4-5 of my posts dumb and for good measure they went through my posting history and gave many of my old, legitimate posts a "dumb" rating

I like the "dumb" rating. I just think people need to exercise better judgement when using it.

And Spydy, I rated your post dumb on accident.
