it's strange that people are happy Lucas won't direct the future films. While it's true he is responsible for any aspects of the movies that you don't like, don't forget he's responsible for all of the stuff you do like as well. He wrote the 9 stories before the first one was filmed (so long ago already wrote the story for the last 3 movies) and was the director of 4 of the 6 movies.

He directed three shitty movies and the first good one. He is not solely responsible for everything we love about the OT and the prequels were the result of full creative control.

I'm as big a Star Wars fan as anybody, but there were a lot more issues with the new trilogy than just the stories. Bad casting, bad dialogue, and bad CGI were some of the biggest problems. The stories themselves weren't that bad, the actual writing and directing was.

What about Joss Whedon directing? He did a great job with the Avengers and has a pretty solid scifi pedigree.

I will almost guarantee it. I'd bet my left nut that they end up rebooting the whole thing in the future. Hollywood has no more ideas, they reboot everything.

I hope this is great news for the local economy here in San Francisco. As Lucas Films went down the drain, it became apparent that film and editing jobs were going with it. They are the big cheese in town, with new Disney step-brother Pixar across the bay. It's going to be fun watching the two collaborate.
