Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sorry, I was just kidding around though from your original post when you said something about the guy around here that everyone loves or something. Sorry if I offended you or Bigmar or someone else, it wasn't meant. I think you are actually an okay dude, lol.

lol A nice example where the use of a smilie would have helped. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who wondered if you were serious. :)

From what i learned from my time lurking here, and posting occasionally, is that people are biased against the newer posters, and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. Of course people will be more skeptical towards someone who has not been here for a long time, and who has not gotten the reputation that the veteran posters have for being quality posters.

You can't just pop in and expect the same respect as everyone else. You have to earn it by giving the site good, quality posts. It may take some time, and a few hundred posts, but you will get respect eventually.

I think you can pop in make an excellent post and get the same respect and Wine and Gold gets. The point is we wade through so many crappie new posters that most of them do not take the time to put there point together and through some facts with it.

We have a very knowledgeable fan base on these forums and its going to be real hard for someone to come post some complete BS and not get called on it.

Well thought out posts is all we ask for, even if we do not agree.

camakazee- I guess he used to post on the cavs.com board, but I never bothered with it. All I knew was the guy churned out top-notch statistical breakdowns after every game this past season, and I personally nominated him for some recognition as one of our official bloggers. I didn't know a thing about the guy this time last year, but now his humor and stats are an integral part of RCF.

I used to post on realgm, never cavs.com, but I never posted a lot there anyway.

I started out doing some heavy duty lurking here, finally created an account, and lurked some more. And the truth is, going from a realgm or a cavs.com to this site, you have to sit out a few plays before you jump in. It's not disrespect to anyone intellectually (I'm a pretty smart dude and can hold down my own), but it's like practicing with the fifth grade then jumping into the Vegas Summer League. Even if you're a baller, you're going to be behind at first.

And that's what I suggest to the newer members. I finally created my account around the 2008 deadline and I mainly just looked at most of the news/opinions posted by others. I think I made like two posts in the huge free agency thread. One was passing along information by Chad Ford from a chat that day on the Cavs looking to make moves and the other was providing one or two sentences on why I liked the trade.

Now, contrast that with this past deadline. It was a complete mess. New members joining by the minute and every single one of them comes out blowing their post wad from the gate. No one wants to see these multiple one line posts that are either immature or incomplete in nature. That's why you see such a resentment for a lot of the newer members by the so-called vets here. It's unfortunate when a well respected member provides an indepth paragraph describing the moves the Cavs should make, and it's almost immediately pushed two pages back because of several posts like...

  • "DANNY SETTIN ON HIS HANDS AGAIN!"

  • "God I just wish we would make a move already!"

  • "Deadline = FAIL"

  • "If we get Bosh I'll jizz in my pants."

Like I said, it took me a while to realize quality is well received over quantity on this board, and that's what makes it so good. If you're joining at hectic times like deadlines, playoffs, or crucial moments of the season, take a while to enjoy the landscape and see what different members have to offer. If not and you continue posting habits that are well received on websites like realgm and cavs.com I guarantee you'll butt heads more than once. And no, it won't be just because you're new and the old boys club is out to get it you.

Good work, Sabre. (cause I can call him that)

The problem I personally have here from time to time is what Randolph touched on. Some things are discussed ad nauseum, so after reading the posts already made, there is almost nothing constructive I could possibly contribute. So I post selectively most times, hence my post count is fairly low.

And yes, MVP. Smileys are your friend. I'd have probably never tried to drive a stake through X's heart had I known either and/or both of you were kidding. :p

Thanks for the clarification.

All new to RCF, please dont start threads like "Could cavs trade fo Kobe???????" or "Cavs should sign Al Harrington?!?!?!?!" and other CF threads like so, they annoy the CRAP out of me

Rule #6 PIP's sig needs to be smaller, it's annoying me.

You're right... he needs something to match the gayness of that avatar.

Well said, and it also never hurts to turn your post around in to a question as this helps engage other people.

So for instance a post like "Darnell is our stretch 4. Problem solved." tends to collect more negative responses then a post like "Why can't Darnell be our stretch 4?".

And yes, it helps a lot if you can actually build a case rather the just spew an opinion. Opinions are only worth something if someone actually respects your opinion, but if you make an observation based on something you've noticed on the court, or can supply some stats to support your opinion then you may have something actually worth further discussion.

thanks for the heads up.i read this thread the day i registered. pretty much been lurking and learning about this forum for a minute now. glad to see there are fans just as passionate about the cavs as me.

go cavs!!

Another helpful tip:

If you are tempted to post something of the form: "I agree completely with what you said and can't possibly add to it" - then there's a beautiful thing called the Add Rep icon (to the left) or (once you get a few posts in) a thanks button to the right. This is a versatile feature, it can be used if you wish to:

"LOL"
"I think this is an interesting point"
"Thanks for doing all that research"

This way the author gets all the nice fuzzies of your support and appreciation, while cutting down on posts that don't add to the discussion.

But, seriously, that search feature is bloody awesome. It's up in the top right of EVERY SINGLE PAGE because it's just that useful. If you want to start a thread about Vitaly Potapenko, you can do a quick search to see if there's a discussion already started that you can join. What could be worse than your insight being missed because it's off in some lonely thread by itself?

I'd like to point out that Sabre's a liar. I am the resident grammarian. You can't take the title if you don't have a reference to it in your sig.

OK, I have to say, if YOU aren't the moderator, why are YOU setting rules for people to follow? sorry dude, just asking. am new here and don;t want to get off on the wrong foot with ppl in here but I am not one to take kindly to assholes being assholes and not expecting ppl to retaliate. Just a question and observation is all...don't spaz on me either.

If that's not you in the avatar, I'd suggest spelling out entire words such as "people."

If that is you in the avatar, welcome to RCF!
