New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Sopranos has been pretty solid so far. I'm about 8 episodes in. It has kept me entertained anyway. I wonder if there is a turning point where it gets really good, or if its just more of the same for the rest of the series. I don't mind the building of characters, but it hasn't been that extra special so far.

What the fuck are you watching?

Edit---I guess there are events at the end of the second season that were amazing and the notion of series regulat characters being "eliminated" was pretty well an uncommon thing before the sopranos started.

Television, I think.

Any recommendations now that someon in this thread alerted me to the HBO series on Amazon Prime? I've never watched any of them. I watched the pilot of True Blood years ago and I think the 3rd episode of Deadwood and that was it. Give me a top 5 of the shows on there. This includes the Wire (not sure if that as an HBO show but it is on there too, no?).

The Wire is definitely an HBO show.
True Blood falls flat after the 3rd season.
You can't go wrong with The Sopranos.
I'm not entirely sure what shows are recommended via Amazon Prime, but if they have Boardwalk Empire, you may want to check that out.

They got Boardwalk Empire and that seemed pretty interesting. While I like Steve Buschemi as an actor I can only look at those eyes for a short period of time so a TV show with him may be the way to go. Nothing against he Sopranos, but I was thinking of something else- when people get too wrapped up in a show that usually scares me. Not sure why. I heard True Blood got crappy after awhile but the pilot was fun. They also had Rome, Eastbound and Down, and Deadwood.

I'll probably start with Boardwalk Empire and go from there...

Americans season 1 is on Amazon. So is Hannibal season 1. Those shows are both great.

Sam Adams, band of brothers, the pacific, and generation kill are also on there. Along with oz and six feet under.

Sopranos has gotten really good about last 5 episodes of season 1. It is starting to pick up.

Fargo has been really good so far. No drop off on Tuesdays after Justified ended.

I'm enjoying Hannibal also, though it seems like few people watch it. I wasn't expecting much with it being on NBC, but I've been impressed.

Honestly just read the descriptions and go with what sounds appealing. HBO doesn't do bad TV.

1: The Wire: police procedural but each case is a season essentially. Fantastic characters and writing.
2: game of thrones: I'm biased as this was my favorite book series long before it was a show.
3: True Detective
4: Sopranos
5: Boardwalk

True blood isn't bad but it really falls off a cliff after the first couple seasons.

I have no clue if any of these are on there, they were just HBO shows off the top of my head.

Sorry if the show has been discussed, but I decided to follow Silicon Valley in it's first season this year because I thought it was a great premise for a show. First few episodes were incredibly slow and underwhelming.

With that said, Wow, the show really caught its stride the last 3 episodes of the season. The Dick scene in the season finale might have been one of the funniest bits i've seen on TV in a long time. Clip is below.

Silicon Valley is beyond fantastic. If it keeps it up through another season or two, it will enter the discussion with the top tier comedies.

Really funny stuff.

I'm going to have to re-watch all of Silicon Valley - It was difficult for me to get into that show after witnessing what happened on Game of Thrones. What I did see was hilarious and I fully will commit when I wrap up season 3 of Louie -- which is fantastic.

Dick to floor ratio...lmao

Sucks that Gregory died but should make a good arc for season 2(sadly)
