New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought the first two eps of Silicon Valley were kind of weak, but it absolutely hit its stride after that. Probably the best new comedy I've seen in years.

Honestly just read the descriptions and go with what sounds appealing. HBO doesn't do bad TV.

1: The Wire: police procedural but each case is a season essentially. Fantastic characters and writing.
2: game of thrones: I'm biased as this was my favorite book series long before it was a show.
3: True Detective
4: Sopranos
5: Boardwalk

True blood isn't bad but it really falls off a cliff after the first couple seasons.

I have no clue if any of these are on there, they were just HBO shows off the top of my head.

Thanks. The Wire is, not sure on Game of Thrones but I am more intrigued to start reading the books than I am to watch the show. I'm a nerd that way. Definitely going to start on the Wire and go from there with Boardwalk after that.

First episode of Halt and Catch Fire was pretty solid. Gonna keep watching it for a while.

Just finished season 2 of House of Cards.

I really liked this show and the style in which it was filmed. I liked the little asides that Spacey had with the audience.

Probably going to watch all of Orange is the New Black this weekend. Doesn't it drop midnight pacific on the 6th(12:01)

I watched the first couple sodes of the wire a long time ago and thought it was boring. I powered through most of season 1 this week and I'm a pretty big fan thus far.

Such a narrow minded fuck I can be at times.

The only real problem with The Wire is how slowly it starts out. Once you get through the first couple of episodes, it gets immensely better, especially since you start to like all the characters.

That and the last season. Had potential to be top 3 series of all time. That last season wasn't great at all. Very rushed to tie it all together and cut the wire.

I think it's easily a top three series of all time. In fact, I still think it's the best show I've ever watched.

Name three better shows.

Easily better than The Wire:

Breaking Bad
The Sopranos
And Game of Thrones has the potential to be the greatest series on the planet.

I think you could argue Breaking Bad, but I always thought The Sopranos was wildly overrated (not that it's bad...just not GOAT material, and the ending was fucking awful), and Game of Thrones isn't finished yet so rating it is impossible.

My top three would probably be The Wire, The Shield, and Breaking Bad.

That's why I side Game of Thrones has the potential. The show is so brutal, which I love. The Italian culture is one that fascinates me. This is why I love The Sopranos. It's outdated but still very watchable.

I know it's a preference thing, as I've never seen The Shield (how brutal is it?).

The Shield has some pretty brutal moments, and it also has what is, in my opinion (although I know it's one that many share), the GOAT television ending.

Edit: The Shield also has an awesome pilot, so unlike The Wire you're pretty much on board from the first episode.

The ending of the Sopranos was not awful. It's set up multiple times throughout the final season parts 1 and 2. With even the slightest acknowledgement of cinematic techniques all the pieces for resolution are right there.

The end was awful. One of the worst endings to a series I had ever seen. I thought I'd lost my cable when it happened, only to discover THAT was suppose to be the ending. Absolutely terrible. I'd also say that the last season was kinda weak. Loved the rest of the seasons though. Great show overall.
