New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Still not quite used to the new doctor yet. But the last three all were good, so I've got hope.

Clara >>> Amy.

But Rory rocked.

Clara is good but my wife point out that no matter what emotion she should be feeling she nearly always has "cute half smile" on her face.

I think so far capaldi has been brave in his choices and they gave written some great lines for him, but it's going to take a while for fans to adjust to such a radical change. It's starting to get better although Danny pink gets on my tits

Also can't stand the lizard woman and her girlfriend, but Strax is great.

"Gotham" was incredibly underwhelming for me. My biggest points to note:

  • I'm not a fan of forced story-telling. Everytime a significant would-be villain was introduced, it's like we were plastered with obvious clues and catchphrases e.g. Ivy standing beside the plant, Nigma's instant riddles, Cobblepot being constantly referred to as 'Penguin.'
  • Seemed like there was a lot of over-acting. And did anyone else feel like it's scene was incredibly rushed? Dialogue felt hasty and I felt like I barely had a second to appreciate what was happening before the next scene kicked in.
  • The 'score' was incredibly irritating. Had me feeling like I was watching a CSI/NCIS set in Gotham City.
  • Not sure how I felt about Sean Pertwee's portrayal of Alfred. It's a new twist on the character, yet I'm not sure its one I can get behind. Hardly seemed the sincere, loving father-figure that Bruce Wayne needs after the death of his parents.
  • John Doman playing Carmine Falcone and attempting his best Italian? Nuh-uh. That's another role I felt was severely miscast.
I'm probably over-scrutinizing here, but I'm a bit of a Bat fan so for me, there was quite an imbalance when compared to my expectations.

I guess one of my largest concerns is where the show actually goes. As with all origin stories, we know the eventual outcomes. This doesn't necessarily allow a great sense of intrigue surrounding some of these characters. For example, unlike any other show, we won't be sitting around pondering the psychological effects on a young Bruce Wayne. Will he use the experience for good or for evil? There's hardly any ambiguity over where Oswald ends up as he seems destined to removed Fish Mooney from her perch, claiming the Gotham throne. It seems it may be a struggle to continuously engage the audience because of this.

On a brighter note, I thought the 'comedian' entertaining Fish Mooney was clever. Wonder how many more Joker 'easter eggs' we'll see during the first season.

Anybody catch Red Band Society last week? I thought it was okay. New episode on tonight at 9.

I started re-watching The Wonder Years. It's interesting to watch it as an adult. Different perspective and a better appreciation. Also, the soundtrack is great.

I tried to watch that new show- How to Get Away with Murder-- thought it was awful.

Yea, I just re-watched The Wonder Years a couple months ago. Probably my favorite classic show.

Dang u guys !!!! YOu are way ahead than me. Im watching this in Netflix and im just on to season 5 and there is a new Dcoctor - Matt Smith. I loved Christopher Eccelstone as he gave that unique vibe to the character and was pissed when they replaced him with David Tennant. But holy cow, 3 seasons later I feel like he is the best doctor !!!! How is Matt Smith in comparison and How is the newest doctor ?

And I just saw Amy - Not Clara So I take it she is the newest companion. Are they are spiritedly as Rose and Donna.

I made the mistake of trying to reread the Strain trilogy, and it all came flooding back.

Really, the strengths and weaknesses of the show and books are almost identical. The core vampire story is pretty good, and when the show/books concentrate on Setrakian, Fet, and that Hispanic gang-banger, it's good. They're good roles and I like the acting all around.

But whenever it dips into "human interest" or drama, it completely sucks. Ephraim is just as annoying in the books as he is on the show, so perhaps the acting is great because you hate him equally. His girlfriend is awful, and this weeks "drama" with the son and the senile lady just made me want to pour a can of gas on her and light up. Even Walder had a moment of terrible acting when he kind of went nuts trying to go after the Master there at the end.

Heard the Strain got renewed for season 2. Is season 1 that good? I felt it was very underwhelming. Too incoherent. People who complain about The Walking Dead must be tied to a chair and forced to watch The Strain. The Expendables had better consistency than that (Having said that, I also want to confess that the parts that were good kept me interested enough for me to want to watch it)

Nothing cutting edge or interesting, but I wanted to inject myself into this dialogue, and post my TV watching over the summer....

Orphan Black (Season One): Finally started to watch this, after hearing about it on several pages ago. Pretty good, decent acting, nothing really lacking except some well-placed nudity. S2 is available on-demand, so I'll try to cram it in before I get too entrenched in all the fall shows.

The Wire (S1): This has been on my list for a while now. Great great show, and I am mad at myself for putting it off for this long. The outfits are just a bit humorous, which means I am getting old.

The Strain: I was excited to watch the first episode, but I was more than a bit let down. Haven't watched any more episodes, but the commercials seem to be getting better; that, plus the positive talk in here might be enough for me to give it another shot.

Doctor Who: Thanks for bringing up this show, as I have tried to watch it several times and have the same reaction-meh. I've seen the first three episodes of the Eccleston era, a Tennant one, a Smith one, last year's season finale with the DWho mash-up, and I am still going to try to watch the first episode of this new old guy as the Doctor. I'm a pretty big SciFi fan, and am not completely retarded; however, I just can't get over those terrible special effects....and maybe all the accents.

Gotham: I was pretty excited to see the premiere of this show, as I was a big fan of Southland and the dude who was cast as Jim Gordon. The show creators need to decide if they want to make it a police drama with hints of the Batman saga, or a WB-styled super hero show aimed at teens/early 20s folks; the first show seemed like they were trying to do both. I agreed with how obvious the Batman villains were being previewed, and doing the same thing over an entire season might have been better for the longterm prospects of the show. I mean, they teased like five Batman villains in one episode? Too much IMO.

The Flash: There is a copy of the soon-to-be-aired first episode floating around the internet, and I saw it last night. Not bad, not awesome, but worth watching. Some familiar faces in the cast from other shows, and there was even a two-minute conversation with Flash and Arrow. Nothing really outstanding or terrible about this first episode, but I did enjoy watching it.

The Leftovers: Wife and I watched the first five episodes, but I had to stop watching it. Completely nothing revealed about the big disappearance, and the show is mainly just about the characters adjusting to life in the present. I understand the concept, but the lack of info from 5% of the planet's population vanishing pissed me off. Also, that bitch from Judging Amy pisses me off, as well; seeing her not talk, and just smoking cigs being a douche pissed me off even more.

Sons of Anarchy: I've watched this from the beginning, but this final season looks like a bloodbath. Hopefully, it won't leave that Soprano's taste in my mouth when the series ends this fall.

True Blood: Wife and I have watched this from the beginning, and it's sucked for a while. Since we were both so invested in the show, we committed to watching it until the end. Ugh, glad it's over. While I was happy to see ample viewings of Anna Pacquin's boobs, I was disappointed in no frontal shots of the redhead Jessica.

The Strain - It is to up or down and Im sucked into it for the same reason that you are - A Sci Fi addict. I felt like FX had a winner with this but the more i watch the more painful it is. I havent gotten to the point where i want to say no more, but if they are going to tread down this point of bad bad stories and poor poor and unjustifiable human emotion and practicality then it is getting harder and harder to watch.

Doctor Who - From what I understand the CGI is cheesy and not scary but that is because apparently because When they decided to reboot Doctor Who BBC made it for a larger audience (10 years and older). So you have to make a sci-fi TV series with nice stories which when tailored to kids and average special effects makes it harder to watch. But the one thing that always attracts me to it is the stories. They are good. IF you can get over the childishness then you will enjoy it. It is not for everyone - but if you learn to see past those flaws you will appreciate it.

Does anyone here watch Penny Dreadful ? If yes then thoughts ?

They need to make next week's season finale action packed and exciting as shit. It seems like it may be from the teaser. This show has such promise and it kills me it tangents off on bullshit story lines we do not give a shit about.

Things I am happy about from last episode:

1. The grandma is finally dead.
2. Looks like the kid may get into some action. Let's see if he actually is a good actor.
3. One of the most interesting characters, the already dead Navy SEAL looking dudes are back.
4. Eichhorst is still sweet. Dude is just creepy and I love how he calls him by his camp#. Just a freaky guy.

It is still slow and they show pointless parts still, but it is Season 1 and I suppose they needed to show backstories for Season 2 and beyond. I saw his plan is for 5 Seasons. If he doesn't hit it out of the park with Season 2, he won't last that long.

Eichorst is definitely the best character on the show. It seems like the people making the show realized it too, because his role is increased significantly from what it was in the books.

He seems like the only one who looks convincing in his part - Everybody else seems so ....underwhelming in their parts (part of the blame has to go to the makers). This show suffers from consistency and a lack of stand out characters and they really need to fire the guy in charge of putting the wigs !!! George costanza had a better toupe in The Beard episode.
