New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If I ever feel I need a laugh I watch one of the episodes on my DVR. One of my favorite ones they do is when they have to get in front of a class/group and the other 2 behind the scenes make the slides for them.

Always classic.

Have you seen the strip high-five punishment? That one is the best!

I had a David Lynch phase my last year of HS, as a result of watching Twin Peaks....FYI dropping quotes from David Lynch films like Dune, Blue Velvet, and Wild at Heart weren't exactly the keys to the britches of young Avon Lake girls.

Really looking forward to the Twin Peaks redux, but everyone is so fucking old. Lara Flynn Boyle looks like that dried up old bitch from Dr Who (who needed to be basted every so often), but the other ladies kept themselves up. I had forgotten that Heather Graham was one of the waitresses....

There's a ton of questions from the 'Fire Walk With Me' flick, as well; WTF happened to Chris Isaak's character would be my big question.

@DCunleaded
Damn it, I just realized that it's on Showtime.

The good news is that David Lynch has remarkable hair.

I just watched the pilot episode today. This is my second go round at the series. I loved the original score. But Lynch revealed the killer way too soon, so it went down from there. It'll be interesting to see where/how they pick up from this.

Watched the Flash yesterday and Arrow season 3 premiere tonight.

Arrow has really grown into a quality show. Hard to imagine given the whole CW thing but it really is an enjoyable watch.

Flash looks a bit more light-hearted which is reflective of the character. Together they will make a good contrast.

With the Flash hinting toward the Green Lantern and Arrow hinting toward the Atom, who knows how much this universe will expand..

Don't know about others but I really liked the last episode of Gotham.

It was eerily awesome when The Penguin ended up at his door in the last scene.

Getting better, for sure.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but the Blacklist is a great watch. Highly reccomend it.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY FREAK SHOW

Impractical Jokers, one of the funniest shows out there in my opinion.

Went and saw them live when they toured this past summer. Even more funny in person and genuinely cool guys. Easy laughs.

Finally caught the the finale of The Sopranos. After reading so many anticlimactic views both here and from other sources online (all accidentally, of course), I didn't quite know what to expect.

But what an absolutely genius final scene. For me, one of the most incredibly bodies of art that I've ever seen. And my initial impression is that the negativity and backlash came as a result of a complete misunderstanding and/or inaccurate interpretation of the ending.

The final scene embodied everything that was genius about this show. Direction, cinematography, timing, sound and symbolism were utilized to absolute perfection.

Makes incredible sense why this is ranked as the greatest television show of all time.

...What. That was the worst final scene in television history.

Dexter's lumberjack ending was probably worse, actually, but then no one really expected much of Dexter by that point so it was more of a joke than a letdown. Lost was pretty fucking terrible too, although that was a case where the entire final episode was a huge disappointment rather than simply the ending, which was really stupid.

I'd have to respectfully disagree, Rob! How else do you think they could've ended it? This was always a show about Tony Soprano and his family. He was always going to die at the end.

I couldn't think of anything more clever than structuring the sequence from POV angles to imply that the final shot of blackness represented the death of Tony. Without giving the viewers the luxury of witnessing the murder first hand.

If interested, this is an incredibly insight take on the ending: http://masterofsopranos.wordpress.com/the-sopranos-definitive-explanation-of-the-end/

For arguments sake, what would have been your ideal ending?

HBO to launch standalone streaming service in 2015

HBO is about to make cord cutters really happy.

The media company confirmed it will launch a standalone service for streaming its programs starting in 2015 that will not require a cable subscription. The service was revealed by HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler during Time Warner's investor meeting on Wednesday.

"That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped," said Plepler of the rise in broadband-only homes. "It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO."

Talk of a potential breakaway service from cable has bubbled for months. The network offers HBO Go, an app where users can access current and older HBO programs including Game of Thrones and The Sopranos. However, it requires users to authenticate their account through their cable subscription. The app is available through smartphones, tablets, video game consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and set-top boxes including Apple TV.

HBO is "Seriously Considering" Streaming Service That Doesn't Require Cable

In April, HBO announced a multi-year deal with Amazon to host older series including The Wire and Deadwood on the company's Instant Prime streaming service.

HBO's leap toward a standalone service was "inevitable," says Forrester analyst James McQuivey. "HBO has some of the most prized content on the TV screen and it appeals strongly to the young, affluent, educated demographic that is most likely to cut the cable cord in the next five to ten years," he says.

Next year's arrival of a streaming HBO service is happening as companies like Netflix and Amazon Prime delve deeper into original programming. Last month, Netflix announced it will produce its first original movie, a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Days later, Netflix signed a long-term deal with comedian Adam Sandler to make four movies that will stream exclusively on the service.

Meanwhile, Amazon's Prime video service has continued expanding its original offerings, most notably the series Transparent, which launched last month.

Just when I was ready to share my HBOGO log-in info. :biggrinthumb:

I agree jack. That was weird. Him being a lumberjack and all. Didn't care for the sopranos ending at all however it still ranks probably as my top 5 favorite series.

What do you guys think of the shield finale? I thought it was a perfect way for them to end the series.

The Shield had, in my opinion, the greatest finale in TV history. It wrapped up pretty much everything in a satisfying way without the whole thing feeling a little too neat and perfect (a la Breaking Bad). Vic Mackey's fate was perfectly fitting after everything that he did throughout the show.

Sadly, it's easier to list terrible finales than it is to list good ones. When I was trying to think of other finales I was struggling to come up with anything better than The Shield or Breaking Bad.
