New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yea I just had to get on here and talk about True Detective. Show is kicking some serious ass right now. I'm just not sure you could have picked two more perfect people for their roles than Harrelson and McConaughey

EDIT: For anyone watching the show,
it seems pretty clear the two black detectives are thinking that McConaughey committed the murders, right?

Yeah, I think that's the implication. At least for now.

Can't remember if I mentioned it in this thread or not, but the structure of the series is gonna be really cool. It's an anthology, kind of like American Horror Story, so each season will be different characters and a different story. So although it's a bummer that McConoughey and Harrellson won't be around after this year, it should allow for some really big name actors to cycle through because the material is top notch and the commitment is really small.

Didn't even realize it was an anthology. That has me sad. I'm not sure how they can ever top those two next season.

Also, it makes me wonder if there is any possible way they'll get around to figuring out the 2012 murder case the two other detectives are investigating. Hard to imagine they can do that in five episodes. Now I'm sad.

I'll hold off on being sad til I see how this season turns out and who comes in next year.

Being a nerd I'm going through all seasons of The West Wing. It's too good.

Worth it. Excellent writing until the end. Toby makes me fucking cry way too much.

That's how I feel. I'd rather see eight episodes with a definitive vision and a satisfying ending than dragging shit out and losing everyone's interest like The Killing did. Although, to be fair, the first three episodes of True Detective are already a billion times better than that shitshow.

I just went back and read Greenwald's review of True Detective (he apparently saw the first four episodes before the season began) and while I normally don't care about a movie/television/art critic review, because after all, it's all so subjective, I swear I think Greenwald has a strong case of white guilt. Just compare his recaps of The Bridge with that True Detective review.

True Detective's cliffhanger ending has me bummed out for the two week break (Super Bowl) before episode 4. What a final image!

Is there a two week break? I thought Game of Thrones started on April 9th and there were only eight episodes of True Detective. Are they doing like a two hour finale or something?

i think he meant 2 weeks as in the next ep is 2 weeks from this past sunday. not that there are two sundays off before next ep.

I got what he meant. I was just totally doing my math wrong thinking True Detective ended the week before Game of Thrones began.

Just finished watching all of The Wire. Season 5 was slow to start. I struggled through it, which does make it the weakest. Overall, it is a fantastic series. If I had to rank them by seasons -- strongest to weakest -- 4, 3, 1, 2, 5.

I am curious as to something. So someone who's seen the series, please answer this for me.. In white, below:

Michael is the new Omar, right? Did Marlo go back to the streets, or did he just want to stand on the street one last time? Was really happy how things ended with Bubbles. Sad about how Dukie ended up as a drug addict.

**Edit** -- The debate as to The Wire vs. Breaking Bad -- Breaking Bad is always going to top The Wire, for me. I felt there were no weak seasons for Breaking Bad.

I always took it as ambiguous by design. While Stringer craved legitimacy, Marlo was basically the opposite. All that "my name is my name" stuff seemed to indicate his reputation was his driving force.

Neal Brennan's "Women and Black Dudes" was a great comedy special on comedy Central. I'm guessing it will be re-run/be on demand.
