Non-Varejao Trade Ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Based on the rumored Kris Humphries and Ben Gordon swap, I figured, why not have the Cavs get involved?

If the Nets are trying to bolster their outside shooting and dump Humphries, why couldn't the Cavs take Gordon instead and deal out their outside shooters to the Nets? I know the Nets' owner has mandated that he doesn't care about money, but they are so far over the tax that a deal like the one I propose would boost their bench and outside shooting at a fraction of the cost.

Why don't the Nets deal Humphries to Charlotte and let the Cavs take on Gordon? The Cavs could send out whatever smattering of outside shooting and expirings the Nets may want. Walton, Ellington, and Gibson to the Nets? The Cavs also have 2 second round picks. They could send one to each team.

I wouldn't expect to get the DET pick that Charlotte owns, but the POR pick that Charlotte owns could be decent compensation as long as say the Nets send MarShon Brooks to the Bobcats.

I would imagine trimming the $12M (plus whatever tax penalties) off of the Nets' payroll would be pretty attractive, especially if they can get the outside shooting out of Ellington and/or Boobie. They could flesh out their bench for this season and gain financial relief after.

Just a framework idea.

Re: Tracking the 2013 Draft Picks

If the goal is to help the lakers, I am thinking there is another way.

What about a 3 team deal involving us, the Lakers and Indiana.

Lakers: Out Pau Gasol, Robert Sacre In Speights, Boobie, Hansborough,Trade exception
Indiana : Out Granger, Tyler Hansborough, 2014 first rounder, In Gasol, Luke Walton
Cavs: Out Speights, Gibson, Walton In Granger, Sacre, 2014 first rounder

Lakers are better with Speights and Dwight than with Gasol. Boobie has some three and D in him, and Hansborough is an expiring young big. Trade exception and expiring contracts give lakers flexibilty if the season goes down in flames, as they could do a sign and trade for Dwight that involves two big contracts (Think Atlanta, Brooklyn, Memphis or even New York)

Indiana has done fine without Grainger, and could play Pau alongside Hibbert or West. Pau statistcally is much better as a center.

Cavs get another pick, as well as a legit small forward, with a conveniently expiring contract, and a long shot center who has exceeded his draft expectations.

I don't think Speights and pieces is what the LAL have in mind in-terms of who they'd like to acquire for Pau.......

How bout this?

Atlanta gets
Boobie
Walton
Miami 2013 first rounder
Orlando 2013 second rounder
Memphis 2015 first rounder

Cleveland gets
Josh Smith

The issue is how much money he would want...max is too much. $10 mil? Okay now we're getting somewhere.

I think if he was willing to take $10 mil he would be re-signing in Atlanta. This guy and his management are going to check with every team to try and find one that will give him the max. All it takes is one team.

I think once he got here and played with Kyrie and seen how are fans are he would take less. Kyrie seems to have a really good affect on people.

And I think this would kick ass.
Re-sign Ellington and Speights and Livingston.
sign Oden.

Kyrie/Livingston
Waiters/Ellington
J. Smith/Gee/Miles
TT/Andy
Oden/Speights/Zeller

Then have our draft picks hone their skills in the D-League for a bit.

how about this one:

Phoenix gets
Marreese Speights
Sacramento 2013 first rounder
(add a 2nd rounder if necessary)

Cleveland gets:
Marcin Gortat
Wesley Johnson

we get a starting center who's a very solid defender and Phoenix saves money and gets a pick. wouldn't affect our 2014 plans either because Gortat's contract expires in 2 years (he's gonna be 30 by then so we might even re-sign him...)

That is a god awful trade for Indiana, they only do that deal if the GM has a gun to his head

After that nuggets game, I'm not sure what we should do. Our bigs are just to soft. No one wants to body anyone up and rebound the damn ball.

As much as I hate Howard, I'm thinking thats what we need (If he's healthy that is).

I just don't get why most of you guys want Josh Smith so badly..? Yeah, he's a small forward and that's what we need..but he's a basket case and wants more money than he would get from us.

Because he is still fairly young at 27, Is a solid defender, he could play his natural position for us in a spot where we need, he has a toughness and attitude that our team desperataly needs, he is a quality shot blocker and inside presence, he has no history of injuries...Should I go on?

The question should be, why wouldn't we want him so badly?

It's been said a million times and it still doesn't get through. Josh Smith is not a SF offensively, not even close. He is not a max player and that is what he is hoping to get this off season so trading valuable assets for an invaluable contract is a terrible idea. Josh Smith is not happening, nor should the Cavs want it to happen.

... Josh Smith's jumper isn't great plus he is quite expensive. Not only does he have a trade kicker, but he's a rental. Paying for him would make it impossible to keep Kyrie, Tristan, among others once they are available. And if we want to keep him, we'll probably need to offer 4-5 years, which would make him 31-32. Do you really want him at that point, with all the other mentioned baggage?

The issue with taking on a player like Smith is that you will be using lots of assets and cap space and thus, greatly reduce future flexibility to sign a guy like Lebron or trade for a younger star.

Its a tough situation for the Cavs. They have the assets to pretty much trade for any non franchise type guy in the league. Cap relief, picks, young players can all be used. Essentially they have a nuclear bomb right now. Do they use it? Should they? Should they wait to try to sign Lebron and keep their assets? Should they try to trade for a star now? I'm sure there are players available to the Cavs right now that would make this board explode. Its going to be a fun 18 months. I do know that.

I wish I had as much confidence in Lebron coming back as all of you guys do. Thats all I hear it seems.

If this Is everyones logic, why don't we just offer Miami all of our picks for the next two years and trade for him? I'm sure since you all think these picks are so valuable, Miami would have no problem with this, right?
