Obama's Plan to Regulate the Internet is 332 Pages. The Public Can't Read It!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is the same country that made it a crime to speak out against America less than 6 years after it came into existence.

Adams was worried that the country they fought so hard to create would fall apart. Jefferson thought it was terrible. Everyone agrees Jefferson was right and no one has tried to bring this back since.

Get ready for the beginning of government datacenters.

Then it would be possible.. yes.

If you believe the only thing keeping us safe from gov't censorship of the internet is the feasibility of it, then get ready. Because that's what they are going to make sure happens.

It'd be very expensive.

This is the same country that made it a crime to speak out against America less than 6 years after it came into existence. The same country that made speaking out against World War 1 a punishable offense. And the same country that has made protesting anywhere near the President a federal crime.

I'm with you on all of this.

You say it's not possible to be done based on the current infrastructure. I'm telling you they'll just build a new infrastructure. Wait for it.

Not denying there are plenty of folks in government who would want such a thing.

Except when it happened again in World War 1 right?

Visually? On the visible light spectrum? No.

On a different light spectrum? Sure, the technology has existed for decades.

It has? Within the visible light spectrum? I'd like to see that.. Sounds interesting.

Realistically, it's not a window into your home that sees anything and everything in full technicolor. It's mostly to do with motion detection, but at very minute levels involving air pressure etc to the point where even light breathing can be monitored and tracked. I was basically using to illustrate the point that the technology that is readily available to public is always 10-20 years behind where the technology curve is actually at.

You know, I was a conspiracy theorist when I made jokes about the NSA watching/spying on us. Then they did. I was a conspiracy theorist when I was overseas and thought there was no WMDs, until there wasn't.

And as for why I'm not using a VPN while I'm using a p2p network, I'm poor and much too lazy to set up a VPN service to use during my random piracy moments.

Not sure what you are referring to.

I know we used the last part of the Alien and Sedition act that wasn't repealed to throw Japanese Americans in internment camps in WW2, but don't know about anything in WWI.

Sedition Act of 1918 which was made to further empower the Episonage Act of 1917.

You're thinking of the Alien Registration Act from 1940.

In both cases the Supreme Court ruled that these were unconstitutional and they were (relatively) quickly repealed, but yes, these were fucked up.

Wartime makes everyone crazy, just like now with the NSA stuff. I don't plan on being a terrorist or associating with terrorists though so if that shit will keep me safe, I say go right ahead. I also believe that Snowden should be hung for treason. I know that neither of those opinions is popular though.

As someone who was directly and indirectly effected by Snowden, more power to him.

There is no absolutely no benefit to government secrecy. There is no benefit to having every aspect of my life monitored by an outside organization. There is no benefit for me to allow a government that doesn't follow it's own rules to continue to have power.

If you even understood what "plan on being a terrorist or associating with terrorists" means to the government, you wouldn't be so quick as to defend them. Ever protested? You're a low level terrorist. Ever donated money to any religious group, humanitarian charity, etc? You're a low level terrorist.

Do you understand that by the meaning of the word terrorist, if you've ever so much as said that you didn't agree with something the gov't did, YOU ARE A TERRORIST?

I'm sorry, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let someone declare me a terrorist because I don't believe in his money and power.

You realize that we have the NDAA from 2012 right? IT'S THE SAME FUCKING THING.

spydy, you posted in this thread.

You by definition are a terrorist.

Your entire 2nd paragraph is exactly why this country is in the shitter.

Terrorists are people that commit violence. Also, there is no such thing as a "low level terrorist."

The things you are describing could be more aptly described as radical, but even that would be a stretch. Either way, I don't really spend much of my time down a paranoia rabbit hole thinking that the government is sitting around making lists of people that disagree with what they say, and if I did I would just blow my brains out because I don't know how I could live in that world.

You're so wrong on so many levels with this post I don't even know where to start.

At this point, I'm just saving this post to see if you off yourself when shit hits the fans.

Please start. I'm honestly curious to see where I'm so wrong.

EDIT: To clarify, the "world" that I am describing here, the one that would bring about my demise, is the one where I am worried all the time about what the government is doing.
