Oden

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Oden (Cavs expected to offer contract in the summer)

It's actually Staph, not staff.

Try to debate your way out of this one. JK.

lol, no need to debate my way out of one line quip. You're of course correct. I'll make a mental note to review the Latin routes of my quips in the future - at least when auto-correct doesn't have my back. :)

otoh, it seems to me most athletes use specialists. For instance the chief surgeon on Oden's microfracture was Richard Steadmen, and he's apparently based out of Vail, Colorado. James Andrews is a very popular choice and he works out of Alabama and Florida (Gulf Breeze).

Maybe he should play for the Nuggets or Hawks?

I'm sure the Cavs staff and the Clinic will do a good job with the regular care/therapy, but I'd expect his rehab to be supervised by one of those knee experts. Heck, if he hasn't already been doing so on his own, he must have blown all his cash.

Still hoping the Cavs sign Oden in the off-season.

is the title of the thread out of date or is there some info that's newer than the Jason Lloyd report cited on the last page?

I changed the thread title to the simplest possible. There's no info newer than the reports cited upthread.

You never know what Pat Riley can pull off though. That is why I'm kinda scared and not 100 percent sold on him coming here. I guess we will see.

Re: Oden (Cavs expected to offer contract after trade deadline)

And three #1 first round picks playing on the same team.

Probably why we were reportedly interested in Bargnani.

Anyone got Kwame Brown's number?

Never thought that move would make any sense for them. Why, on a team trying to win now and over the tax already, would you give a guy who has already said he is not playing this year and has been such a health risk for so long guaranteed money for multiple years? Just makes no sense for him to go there, unless he was ready to play right this moment (highly unlikely).

I swear, the Heat need to stop trolling Chris Grant's phone records. I'm tired of Cav's interests or former players getting looks with them.

Signing Oden doesn't make or break this team. We're all intrigued to see if he has anything left, and as a lot of us are probably Buckeye fans, we want to see him have a comeback.

The reality is his knee is permanently damaged, so if he get anything from it, it will be no where close to what he could have been athletically.

What I hope for him is 5-7 years in the league as a solid center playing 15-25 mins a game. Perhaps approaching double double range.

If that CAVS can get that, he'll be a good rotational guy. But he's never going to be that game changer he may have become. His knee robbed him of that.

This has been mentioned before, but once it was revealed that Oden had permanent structural issues with his knees and may never be 100% again...why wouldn't they just replace the entire knee with titanium or something? It's drastic, but something like that could have really saved his career, and it has to be better than needing constant surgeries every few years.

I heard a company called Skynet already does this. Seems plausible.

when did this happen? I don't recall anything like this.

I don't know what shoes22 is referring to specifically, but Oden has had micro-fracture surgery on both knees. That procedure is done when there's too much cartilage damage in the knee, in order to stimulate new cartilage growth. It has had very mixed results- some players can come back fine but many players have had their careers hampered or been forced to retire due to cartilage issues.

So the gamble becomes Penny Hardaway vs. Kenyon Martin. On a side note, why did Oden bulk up after his first surgery? Seriously though, who advised this kid that putting on muscle mass would do him any good?
