Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Placebo have just released a new single, "For What It's Worth". Any fans out there? I sorta have a love hate relationship with these guys. Sorta shunned them in their early days but there is some serious quality stuff out there too.

Shakey, nice choice on Jesus & Mary Chain. I have most of their stuff and there are a lot of bands whose sound is influenced by them.
BRMC does always have solid albums.

As far as Wilco, Summerteeth is my favorite by them. Since then I've liked most of their newer stuff less and less.

The 2 latest I've picked up by new bands are from Glasvegas and The Airborne Toxic Event. Both are pretty good. Finally got the latest Kings of Leon too.

I didn't get into Placebo until they had been around for a little while. I do like a lot of their stuff although they don't get much airplay at all over here.
What does the new single sound like?

Karma, you asked about Kings of Leon a while back. They are getting bigger here now and have broken out with their latest release.

JAMC were a great and quite underappreciated band. I was lucky enough to see them live quite a few years ago (in 1996 playing along Bad Religion). From what I-ve hard so far Glasvegas seem to be in the same mould: Glaswegians fond of "Wall of sound" production techniques. I intend to listen to their album, I'm just waiting for the hype to subside and the CD price to drop :gap:

When it comes to Placebo, I am wildely biased against them. I actually liked them in their early days (anyone remembers Nancy Boy?) but then they went on to become very popular in Greece and became Greek promoters' safest bet i.e. they headline summer festivals almost every year playing the same songs over and over while we never get to see anything fresh and exciting (I would gladly vent against the average Greek rock listener but I don't want to stray out of topic).
Plus I don't think their sound has evolved much since their debut. My gf loves them though

Ok don't tease me now. I'm not up to speed with this whole computer and internet stuff. But how do you post these videos? I've got much to share but lack a clue. :chuckles:

Whilst I await the skills I must mention Kasabian. Not a bad band out of Britain once more. New single just out called "Fire".

Been downloading a heap of Death Cab For Cutie. They are reasonably big over your ways correct? Cool stuff generally.

If you after something a touch different, try "Empire Of The Sun". These guys are from Australia and are a colaberation between a indie rocker and a dance artist.

This is a shot in the dark but are any of you fans of Punk? Ive been a huge punk fan since the mid 80's. East coast,West coast,hardcore,political,pop...I like it all. One of my all-time favorites would without a doubt is NOFX. Theyve been putting out records for 25 years. Just picked up their newest effort "Coaster" and it is amazing!!!!

My favorite track on it right now has to be "My Orphan Year". Most of their songs are super political or a big joke so this one really stood out to me. It's about both of Fat Mike's parents passing in 2006.

really? I thought I was the last to know that you just had to copy+paste the "embed" code from youtube (just below the video's url) :king:

they're kind of big already here. "We are the people" is on heavy rotation on mainstream radios and TV stations. I remember the indie rocker, Luke Steel, he recorded a great record under the Sleepy Jackson moniker called "Lovers" Heavily influenced by 60s stuff (Beatles, Byrds), which I love. Many good songs on that album, like this one:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Mye6cHAEyhw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Mye6cHAEyhw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I think Sleepy Jackson recorded a 2nd album that I never got around to listen to.

I'm a huge indie rock and alternative music fan (R.E.M. is my fav. band), and am glad to see a thread like this here on RCF. Some of the bands that have already been mentioned that I absolutely love:

The Shins
Spoon
Black Keys
The New Pornographers
My Morning Jacket
Vampire Weekend
Wilco

If you are into literary lyrics (and the music is good too), check out "The Decemberists":

If you like Psychdelic-type music mixed with some electronica, check out "Caribou" (the drumming is awesome):

For fans of The Shins, check out "Oh No OH My":

Also, "Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin":

Check out each of these bands' Myspace pages for more songs/info. If you guys like any of these bands, I can certainly post some others. Listening to music is a big hobby of mine, and music like this, and what has already been talked about, is right up my alley.

DCFC is one of the more popular indie rock bands over here (along with The Shins, and some others). I liked their newest album (Narrow Stairs) along with the album before that (Plans) which has a great song called "Soul Meets Body."

Here's a Greek band called Raining Pleasure (I think they've taken their name from asong by the Triffids - another Aussie band as Karma will probably point out). It's a a nice cover of ABBA's Dancing Queen alhough they usually write their own stuff most pof which is quite good:

Just thought I'd throw out there a couple of true classics! First off Street Spirit by Radiohead. Phenominal song and a clip to match. Probably my all time fav. Then the good ole Pumpkins with Disarm. Good times.

Siamese Dream was a great record. I suspect that a lot of us grew up during the 90s boom of alternative music.

Here's a cool Aussie band, The Temper Trap with a couple of nice tracks;

Back to my beloved Aussie bands. Try "Red Paintings" on for size. I'll throw in an awesome cover of "Mad World" as it's a corker.
