Ohio State game thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can tell this board is excited for another season of watching a defense give up a 50+ yard play every single game. I can't wait either. It's gonne be fun!

Yeah man. Those 50+ yard plays are mostly because of blown coverage and missed tackles. I wonder why he and Everett Withers (the other CO-Defensive coordinator who somehow hasn't been mentioned yet by anyone complaining about Fickell) spend so much time teaching their guys how to blow coverage and miss tackles. Also, I'm starting to think Fickell is teaching his linebackers how to get injured so he can use his puny, stupid football mind to plug in a fullback at linebacker...

I understand that our defense sucks. But it's more than the players. It's also more than the coaches. It is a collective effort of suckiness

Well here is some good news. Miller is symptom free and has been release from the hospital. He will probably be sore tomorrow but hopefully he will be ready to go next week.

Exactly what is it that you guys think is a coaches job? To simply call plays and hope his players execute? Or does he have a role in actually getting them to play better? To not miss tackles. To not blow coverages.

This is what EVERY coach has to do. They damn sure can't go out there and make plays for the kids. All a coach can do is prepare his players as best as possible and put them in the best possible situation on game day to be successful and win. And if you think they are doing nothing about the tackling/coverage problem then you're not very bright. If fans can notice the poor tackling and defending of the pass, I'm sure the coaches are noticing it too. In the end it is ALL on the players to execute, but, like it always does in sports, all of the blame goes to the coaches. What irks me right now are the people complaining about the defense today when their play was the only reason OSU even had a shot to tie and eventually win the game.

I cant believe Braxton is symptom-free. The way he was acting when they were walking him to the cart was really scary.

Pathetic performance

Fickell's defense wasnt the only unit that looked awful yesterday. What happened to the offense? Purdue had given up over 750 rushing yards the last two weeks before they rolled into the Shoe and we couldnt get a thing off of them. We made a below average defense look like the 02 Buckeyes. The defense sucks but the offense has had a tendency to take a few quarters off as well.

I'll take the win but I didnt enjoy it. The last couple minutes and OT were exciting but I still left the Shoe annoyed.

Did you forget how to enjoy a football game? That was so epic and considering how depressed I was going into those final minutes, feeling hopeless, I have never left a game more satisfied. If pulling a tie out of our ass with time expired and beating a team that was outplaying us in overtime annoyed you, then you're thinking too hard.

That clip of Meyer getting pumped up is awesome. The level of energy and intensity he brings is so obvious, and great for the program.

I also don't know how much this is Fickels fault, it seems they are running a new scheme under Urban, and the def has no adjusted to it, or learned to play in it yet. Also, does Fickel call the plays are the other D-cord? I am in favor of cutting him lose if he is the problem, but I think this is a hound team, with horrible depth at then LB position.

"we are not a good football team " - Urban Meyer

The Buckeyes havent given up 72 plays a game since 2004. 2003 since a team has averaged 40 or passing plays a game. Only one season did the buckeyes actually average 69 or more plays.

as far as the purdue game. The defense gave up 13 points and stopped drives late in the 4th quarter giving up zero point in the 4th and in OT.

this is a yung defense with more red shirt seniors than seniors. Granted we havent seen the defense play this poorly since 2004 but its quite acceptable for a team that only won 6 games last year

The offfense and special teams had a bad game and the buckeyes still managed to pull out the win. The team has a lot of work on both sides of the field for the upcoming ban bowl

I thought he said, "We're a good team, but not a great team." Didn't look up the quote though.

he said it word for word a few weeks ago on his radio show.it was an update from the ucf post game conference where he said "I'm not going to say we're not a good team, but we have some stuff to work on. We're working our tails off to be that good team." - Urban Meyer

Meyers point being that the buckeyes are doing better than he expected but they have a long way to go.

Don't get me wrong, I'll take the win. I'm annoyed that the same mistakes that were being made in week 1 are being made in week 8. One of my biggest pet peeves on the football field is poor tackling and this team has no idea how to make a tackle.
