With the 12th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State.

Reasons why: Have you seen the Texans offensive line? The Texans DESPERATELY need offensive line help. Dillard is a massive upgrade to what the Texans need, the best pure pass blocking LT in the draft. While the price may be steep, the Texans must protect Watson at all costs and Dillard is the best player in the draft to do it.

Scouting Report:

Overview
Talented four-year starter at left tackle with outstanding feet who offers an instant athletic upgrade for teams getting battered from the blind-side. Because of his scheme, Dillard will be a little behind in terms of his feel for set points and firing off the ball in the run game. While he could play with a little more ferocity as a finisher, he has the athletic ability to make all the blocks and the protection talent to become a good, early starter on the left side.
Strengths

    • Four-year starter for prolific offenses
    • Intelligent with high character
    • Exceptional athlete and is expected to test well
    • Adequate core power with good arm length
    • Feet are fast and fluid with easy change of direction
    • Explosive lateral quickness gets him to most reach and cut-off blocks
    • Skip-pull step is buttery smooth
    • Runs feet as base blocker and drives from his in-steps
    • Has balance to adjust to second-level targets and strike with force
    • He times his initial pass slides with the snap of the ball
    • Has athletic ability to use a variety of set techniques and depths
    • Well-balanced setups and can reset hands without falling forward
    • Mirror quickness to stay in front of edge-to-edge rushers
    • Jabs with stiff outside hand to stunt rush momentum
    • Issues with edge pressure are more technical than physical
    • Feet and agility to find proper recovery angles
Weaknesses

    • Inexperienced firing off the ball in run game
    • Questions about if he can flex on opponents as block finisher
    • Would benefit from low hands and upward strike as run blocker
    • Needs time to acclimate to NFL set points
    • Pass slides are quick but short and might require greater initial depth
    • Punch aim is high and ends up around neck and face mask of opponent
    • Needs to mix up timing and mode of hand strikes to keep rushers guessing
    • Allowed unnecessary edge pressure due to excessive inside/out squeeze
    • Inconsistent determining anchor versus mirror after initial engagement
    • Doesn't shove rushers off the path when redirecting from his edge

Also considered:

T Juwaan Taylor
CB Greedy Williams
CB Byron Murphy

The Miami Dolphins and @smalls1129 are on the clock

With the 13th pick the Miami Dolphins select:

Montez Sweat

6’6”

260 lbs

35 ¾

10 ½

4.41 40

21 Bench

36.0 Vert

Following a ridiculous performance at the NFL Scouting Combine that saw Montez Sweat run a 4.41 second 40-yard dash at 6'6" and 260 pounds, many believed he could jump into the top 10 picks of the 2019 draft. Assuming his heart condition checks out he is a steel for Dolphins who are in need for an edge rusher. Drew Locke was hard to pass up but all indications are the Phins are much higher on the 2020 QB class than anyone not named Murray or Haskins. Also considered Jonah Williams.

Strengths

Sweat has great size, length and strength for a defensive end. His size is prototypical for a defensive end. His length helps him to shed blocks and disengage from offensive linemen to go make the play. Sweat’s strength is great, as he can outmuscle and get past blocks with ease at points.

He uses his hands well to help fight offensive linemen. His hands are also strong and he will continually try to shed the block to get free. This helps him on his pass rush, as he punches and rips well and helps him in the run game to disengage.

While defensive ends aren’t always asked to be good run defenders, Sweat is able to stop the run well. With his ability to get off blocks and make tackles, he is one of the best defensive ends against the run in the class. Sweat keeps good gap integrity and is willing to run ball carriers down.

Weakness

His biggest weakness is that he is very stiff. He stands straight up at the snap of the ball, which limits his ability to move laterally. With his stiffness, he doesn’t bend well and often can’t get around the edge, due to his inflexibility. If he does win on the edge, it is because of his great hands.

Sweat isn’t the best mover in the class. His lateral quickness and agility leave a lot to be desired. If he goes one way, he doesn’t always have the agility or quickness to change his direction to make the play. His strength made it easier to overcome his lack of quickness in college, but it may not get the job done in the NFL.

His burst at the line of scrimmage is very inconsistent. Sometimes he will be very quick at the snap of the ball, but other times he is very average. He’ll need to get faster at jumping at the snap of the ball and be more consistent at doing so to be really effective at the next level.

Atlanta Falcons - @@King Stannis are on the clock.

With the 14th Selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons welcome TE TJ Hockenson to Georgia.

IZwsyt6.jpg

Coming off a sub-par year, the Falcons had little cap space with which to make a big splash in free agency. The Falcons defense regressed last year and the Defensive Line in particular needs help.

However, with the best linemen in a deep draft class being selected ahead of the Falcons' pick, rather than choose from the bevy of second-tier linemen, some of whom will be available in the Second Round, the Falcons went with the Best Player Available in Hockenson.

The 2018 season saw a resurgence in the Tight End position as crucial cogs in most of the League's high-powered offenses. Hockenson becomes a powerful weapon for QB Matt Ryan from the first snap. His size, sure hands and athleticism, coupled with a high football IQ, is a sound bet to make and he projects to be an All-NFL talent in the very near future. Joining a team with All-World WR Julio Jones and the emerging Calvin Ridley, Hockenson looks to greatly benefit from the attention due to Jones. Hockenson will be a contender for Rookie of the Year.

NFL.com's Evaluation:

Overview
In a draft that feels light on high-end talent, Hockenson is an ascending talent with a chance to become one of the best all-around tight ends in the game. He should continue to fill out his athletic frame, but he's already a sound in-line blocker with the toughness to sustain and finish. His above-average athleticism and separation burst will help him win against linebackers while his body control and hands give him an advantage over safeties. Hockenson has standout talent and fits any scheme, but he could be coveted early by teams looking to delve more heavily in 12-personnel (two TE packages).
Strengths

  • Competitive and athletic
  • Bursts upfield from stance finding early separation in seam
  • Long stride into one-step cut to uncover underneath
  • Fluid and fast in intermediate and deep work
  • Runs leveraged, sharp routes and stacks tight coverage
  • Accelerates out of cuts and turns to separate
  • Intelligent use of frame to shield the catch point
  • Able to create late-catch space and secure with sticky hands
  • Above-average catch radius and secures through contact
  • Punches with crisp, inside hands as blocker
  • Runs feet through contact as move blocker
  • Sustains and finishes blocks when he gets locked in
Weaknesses
  • Narrow, athletic frame needs additional muscle mass
  • Can work away from zone defender to help quarterback
  • High-point attempts can be slightly mistimed
  • Gets in a big hurry as run blocker
  • Early over-step loses desired block centering
  • Comes in hot up to second-level targets
  • Needs better anticipation/adjustment to moving targets
  • Could struggle to maintain reasonable anchor in pass pro

Still on the road, but to keep it moving the redskins take Jonah Williams, OL, Alabama

@bigfoot5415 you're up

I want to point this post out as exemplary. You have no idea how many PMs I've gotten that are three or four lines long saying why they cant make a pick. For the most part, if you are that busy, a name and college in the short term works just fine.

It is once again 6 in the morning and I have to make a draft pick. Seriously, fuck time zones.

With the 16th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select....

Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson University

giphy.gif

The Numbers
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 264 lbs
Arms: 34 1/8th''

Why Ferrell
As Jon Grudens brain continues to grow larger and more powerful with each passing pick, so shall our pass rush grow alongside it.,

Ferrell, while not as bendy as Burns or explosive like Sweat, provides a varied and sophisticated pass rush and packs enough power to overwhelm the right tackles of the league. Simply put, what he doesn't have in god given ability he makes up for with sharp technique, savvy defensive I.Q. and an unrelenting motor to go along with a long, strong frame.

With Burns and Ferrell book ending our D-line for the next few years we consider the matter of a missing pass rush to be over and done with and would now very much like you all to stop making fun of Jon Gruden.

The New York Giants and @Stark are on the clock!

With the 17th pick of the 2019 RCF NFL Mock Draft... the New York Giants select...

A.J. Brown, WR, Mississippi

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/a.j.-brown?id=32194252-4f41-3223-e4c5-1e30dffa87f8

Overview
Slot bully with rare combination of brawn and quickness that allows him to separate with both power and foot quickness. Brown has the size and demeanor to take on a relatively heavy workload as a safety blanket for a young quarterback in a ball-control passing attack. He'll see an upgrade in athlete across from him, but he has the feet and body control to uncover and create windows as a premium route-runner.

Strengths
  • Built for the NFL with outstanding lean muscle mass over compact frame
  • Elevated competitiveness and determination
  • Routes are fast, but he adds speed variance when needed
  • Sells routes to manipulate feet and hips of cornerbacks
  • Can stick, stop and open for short possession throws
  • Center of gravity allows for sharper breaks and access to complicated routes
  • Instinctive in space with secondary hustle to uncover after original route completes
  • Quality hand-fighter to unglue from contact in coverage
  • Plucks it away from his frame with quick, strong hands
  • Shields and completes combat catches
  • Baseball outfielder with elite hand-eye coordination and ball-tracking skills
  • Big running back after the catch
  • Athleticism to slip tackles and orneriness to attack them
  • Very willing blocker who can make a difference.
Weaknesses
  • Swagger level against LSU and Alabama appeared lower than usual
  • Struggled to uncover against LSU mega-athlete Donte Jackson in 2017
  • Faced limited press looks from slot
  • Appears more quick than fast
  • Needs to prove he can work downfield against NFL speed
  • Drops appear when focus declines
  • Needs to make better adjustments to poorly thrown balls
  • Can get too slick at top of his route when trying to separate against athletes
NFL Comparison

JuJu Smith-Schuster

Dwayne Haskins gets a legitimate target to grow with in the Big Apple.

The Minnesota Vikings and @BimboColesHair are on the clock!
