On top of Steven Adams

Re: Of Steven Adams

In the Chris mannix recent draft Adams fell to 19 because "he would probably need to spend a year in the d league" and was drafted by the cavs even though they took Noel 1. I would be fine if we went the twin towers approach. I don't expect Adams to last to 19, but I think he is a year away from being ready to contribute at the nba level. He really could have used another year of college as his skill level is not one that deserves nba minutes at this point . Still lke him long term as a quality nba center.

Re: Of Steven Adams

I don't understand why we need another project player. The whole team is a project. If we are going to win, isn't it time to start getting some guys that can play right away? The Cavs need spot up long range shooters. There are plenty in this draft, lets not waste on a project.

I don't know if he'll be an NBA starting center, but he's got a decent chance at it. He's certainly too much potential to pass up at #19. After all, Hibbert fell to #17 the year we took Hickson at #19.

Hibbert didnt fall, the Cavs wanted him and thought he might be there. He was selected where they expected. Drummond fell a bit yet was still picked in the top 10.

That being said, Hibbert though is the reason you take a chance on Adams if he is there at 19 or we can move up to take him.

Re: Of Steven Adams

To continue with the Drummond comparison for Adams, there's a lot of knock on Adams for his weak defensive rebounding numbers. Drummond was also knocked for a lack of defensive rebounding in college. Drummond doubled his rebounding percentage after he entered the nba. I think it's a good possibility an nba team can teach adams positioning, and with that frame of his I don't suspect defensive rebounding will be considered a weakness going forward anymore than it would of been for drummond.

With the proper coaching, Steven Adams has no real limit to what he can be. He probably won't be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon or Shaquille O'Neal, but he can absolutely be a truly awesome basketball player. His physical tools are off the charts. He enjoys contact. He's as strong as any rookie big man has been (other than Shaq) coming into the League. He's extremely coachable and seems to want to get better. He can play NBA defense today. With a guy like Mike Brown teaching him the nuances of NBA defense, and Big Z working with him on NBA offense, I can see him being an Andrew Bynum-like big man (without the headaches). Of course, that's just my opinion--but it's one I've had for a couple years now...and it's only gotten stronger from watching him more.

Re: Of Steven Adams

I really really want this kid I love his defense presence and I think he could develop into one of the better big men in this league if we were to take Porter or McLemore at 1 I think its a given we need to try an trade up to get him...

Re: Of Steven Adams

Well with Nerlen and Len off the board it's time to move up for Adams.

Dammit my draft is crushed. Hopefully Gobert at 19 bah

Didn't get to watch a lot of OKC summer league was wondering how this kid was looking this far, I really thought he'd be a steal in the draft and the Thunder is a great organization for him to succeed in..

I still do not understand why this thread is entitled Of Steven Adams

He showed great coordination and some toughness. He isn't ready for big minutes IMO due to fouling on defense and some issues with turnovers, but lots of 19 year olds have that problem. If the Cavaliers didn't get a solid return on those later picks, I'd be wondering what if as well.

Of Steven Adams

Oh come on. It's a post by oasis. There wasn't that much thought put into the thread title.

Dude is just whacked.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Adams held his own against Drummond. He's physically ready, just a matter of learning the thunders system. He looked lost in summer league. I'd say he's not ready mentally, but he's so overpowering even a guy like drummond had trouble with him. I think he'll give thabeet and perkins a run for their money, and next year with a year under his belt and 2 training camps he'll overtake them.
