Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really tough to ask of the personnel we have out there. That's an area where Delly will be sorely missed. Second unit ball movement.

Screening to force a mis-match is good offense though, better than hero-ball ISO garbage. It's a step in the right direction.

It still ends as an ISO most of the time albeit a pretty efficient one? don't have the stats to back it up.

We definitely need some youth to make sure our old man depth is rested for the playoffs. Dunleavy was -12 tonight... I think a number of guys can put up quality minutes in the time he's getting with more effort on D.

So far Dunleavey is looking like a classic case of an older player falling off a cliff after a significant injury. I hope he can regain more of his old form but it ain't looking great.

I wonder why McRae and Liggins aren't getting any burn. They must not like what they are seeing in practice.

I have one comment on this. Am I the only one that thinks... So this is what it is like to root for the Spurs... This is boring can we get to the playoffs already?

It's way too early for me to make any definitive statements about the Dunleavy addition ... other than the results have been obviously underwhelming so far.

Maybe he has fallen off the cliff and will never get back to the player he was a couple years ago? That is in the discussion given what we've seen.

But he has the whole regular season to figure it out and get himself back, if that is possible. He has missed a lot of wide open shots so far. If those start to fall at some point, he can still help this team.

The backup PG position will be addressed at some point. I have no doubt.

Oh, and a quick update on Delly with the Bucks ...

He has started all 9 games, averaging a career high 28.7 minutes per game. He is averaging 8.2 points on 44/30/82 splits with 5.9 assists to 2.2 turnovers and 3.6 rebounds. He has a 104 OffRtg / 108 DefRtg.

The Bucks are 5-4.

Let's hope he bottoms out and comes back to the Cavs. ;)

The team's offense looks great. LeBron seems to be primarily shooting jumpshots or back to the basket post up stuff, until he REALLY needs points, then he starts straight up driving. I think it's a great strategy to spend the early year working on some of the less polished parts of his scoring arsenal.

The offense is great and balanced. if you check out Kyrie Irving's shot charts he's lights out on the right side, especially above the break. KLove has been great on that left block. James has been driving facilitatin and moving the ball (did you see him give up final first half shot to Felder? Bravo!)

There is one minor concern - they are getting beaten badly at times on the offensive boards. I want to look, but I suspect some of it is when TT isn't with Love on the floor. Either singleton or when Frye is out there. But that's a smaller concern.

The major concern is they are still getting killed in the PnR. They're presently the worst team in the defending PnR ballhandlers, allowing .99 ppp (they're missing a game, not sure what that's about, obviously don't have today, but that wouldn't have improved things)

That's where it seems like some of the lateral quickness of other guys off the ball is being exploiter. but it may just be normal slow rotations and bad closeouts. It's early and so I can't say if it's dolor, getting up to speed scheme or athleticism.

One thing I will say. they only had 5 first half fouls and often seem to readily to let guys get where they want.

The hell is Allie wearing?

She is looking jacked! And pretty hot!

I thought he and Loved played fine. It was LeBron that was playing pretty bad, until the fourth when he decided to wake up and play.

We've all watched LeBron James over the years, we know what he can do when he decides to assert himself. We also know he's been laying back early this season, and amping it up in the 3rd quarter of games - which historically isn't a bad approach either. Albeit sometimes the problem has been slow starts in the 1st and sometimes in the 3rd.

So, I'd turn this around.

If Kyrie and Kevin (both legit 20ppg scorers) are playing great ... why does it matter how LeBron is playing?

On a side note ... I don't want to rile up the Delly fans, but it's interesting to note that Tristan's shot attempts have fallen to a career low 3.4 per game inspite of our improved pace. Not making defenses pay when they cheat off him will affect our ability to have him on the floor. I mention Delly because he was really good at involving TT when he was in the game.

POST NOTES:

I wanted to make this reply in the Kyrie thread but it got locked as I was pressing the submit button. That's why Ben earned a disagree from me... ;P ... it's not a bad fit for this thread, though, as it touches on some non-Irving topics. Also since I originally wrote this post, the Raptors game was played and TT was more involved in the offense (season high 8 field goal attempts) so perhaps I wasn't the only one who noticed he was being forgotten (or was this due his relationship with KK ending?)
