Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges (Paterno and PSU president are now out)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

Paterno better resign by Monday. He should have reported this to the police, not just the school.

JoePa is like a Supreme Court justice -- he is going to be the head coach of that team, for better or worse, until he dies.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

Wow.

How can Joe Paterno not be forced to resign? Of course he didn't commit any crime as such so he won't be prosecuted for not reporting what he simply heard, but the fact he didn't report it because he's got some morals and has been an educator of kids for 69 years means he's at least obligated to find out EVERYTHING he could and that includes getting the police involved.

Just wow.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

Maybe it's safe to assume Penn State is now going to lose more than one game the rest of the season? :dunno:

Whatever you posted isn't showing up for me, but anyway;

... way too soon.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

I laughed. I shouldn't have...but I did.

I say that after being on record as saying that I hope this guy is punished at the hands of the law and at the hands of his cellmates.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

I think I'm more pissed off at the arrogance of the HIGHEST people at Penn State who basically did Nothing about this for 8 years.

Curley = Athletic Director
The PRESIDENT of Penn State
Joe Paterno - Head Coach

They did Nothing. Nothing at all. The President didn't even state his concern for the kids. He didn't mention them at all. This is really pathetic stuff. An all-time type of pathetic.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

It's shit like this that makes me wonder how parents aren't afraid to let their kids even leave the house. Jesus Christ almighty. Pedophiles deserve the same life sentences that murderers get.

In any case, JoePa new about this and a great deal of other administration seemed to know about this. There should be firings all around, probably including JoePa. To not absolutely force this guy out of the program and the school and ensure that he was arrested is sickeningly neglectful.

This is so, so much worse than any of the tattoos, or free gifts, or money that kids are being handed by boosters. They need to be punished accordingly. I wish the absolute worst on Sandusky, the child rapist.

I started reading the grand jury report, couldnt read more than a few pages...I almost vomited. Again, I have no idea how this animal got out on bail.

If anyone else can stomach it, I was wondering if there were any other details about Paterno's involvement.

Well, this is how the Penn newspaper is spinning things.

Penn State coach Paterno praised for acting appropriately in reporting Jerry Sandusky sex abuse suspicions

JOE HERMITT, The Patriot-News, 2011
Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno did the right thing and reported an eye-witness report of child sex abuse by Jerry Sandusky in the football locker room in 2002, according to the indictment released this morning by the state Attorney General.

A source close to the investigation tells The Patriot-News that Paterno will not be charged, and will be a prosecution witness who will testify.

Friday, Sandusky was charged with 40 counts of child sex crimes, and this morning athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz were charged with perjury and failure to report a crime.

The sources said the deputy state prosecutor handling the case said that Paterno did the right thing, and handled himself appropriately in 2002 and during the three-year investigation that ended Friday.

Of course, that's the prosecutor stating no charges would be filed against Paterno but we already knew that. Penn isn't commenting on any moral obligation Paterno should have felt by only telling Curley about the incident and not going to the police himself. That's the real issue. We don't even know if Paterno followed up or did anything at all since 2002. Pathetic.

The only thing I saw on Paterno was that a graduate assistant told him about Sandusky and a child in a shower after he told his dad about it, and that Paterno then relayed it to the AD. The AD called the assistant into a meeting, and he personally told the AD about what he saw. A few weeks later he checked in to see what was going on, and the AD told him it had been reported to The Second Mile, but the graduate assistant was never questioned by university police and no other entity conducted an investigation until he testified in front of the Grand Jury in 2010.

It was in the section of Victim 2 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, if you can get through it.. It's disturbing.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

woah there

The allegations about a former coach are troubling, and it is appropriate that they be investigated thoroughly. Protecting children requires the utmost vigilance.

With regard to the other presentments, I wish to say that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz have my unconditional support. I have known and worked daily with Tim and Gary for more than 16 years. I have complete confidence in how they have handled the allegations about a former University employee.

Tim Curley and Gary Schultz operate at the highest levels of honesty, integrity and compassion. I am confident the record will show that these charges are groundless and that they conducted themselves professionally and appropriately.

Re: Penn State AD Tim Curley faces charges

I mean...what kind of mind do you have to have to allow yourself to sexually violate a child? I always wonder this when I see these stories. Like for me...I've never had the ability to convince myself to cheat or steal. There's actually been ocassions where I wish I could have done it. Would have made college a whole hell of a lot easier. I'd get a disturbing sensation in my mind whenever I'd think about looking at someone's paper for an answer. I just couldn't do it, moreso for fear of being caught but also just because I knew it was wrong.

Does a child molester not get this feeling? Like do they just not have the ability to convince themselves not to completely destroy someone's life? Are they able to sit there after and somehow justify it to themselves?

I just can't fathom it. I cannot wrap my mind around what kind of mentality one would have to have to want to do this to someone and moreso to actually follow through with it...repeatedly.

Like if I broke certain rules or took short-cuts in previous jobs, it was generally pretty easy to rationalize why I did it...especially knowing my boss wouldn't care. Is a guy like this somehow able to convince himself it's ok?

I also cannot fathom not immediately going to the police with this. Honestly, that student assistant was a pussy and should have intervened. I mean...he walked in on a rape. Yell at the guy, tell him to let the kid go, whatever.

What the fuck is going on in this world?
