Peyton Hillis is Jason Bourne

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Peyton Hillis

For a team so lacking in talent, some of you folks sure do seem in a hurry to trade away the talent we stumbled upon for the price of one Brady Quinn.... unbelievable.

My favorite was the guy who said that defenders were targeting Hillis to cause fumbles. Defenses target everyone to cause fumbles. Nevermind that Hillis has a smashmouth brand of running that is high contact (making him vulnerable to drops), because players are trying to poke the ball out (not avoid getting run the hell over/make the tackle).

This guy wasn't finished though, we can feel safe in resigning him if and ONLY IF he rushes the ball to the tune of 1800 yds and 20 TDs (better not be any more fumbles though!). And people thanked this post??? All hope may be lost. This Browns section of this board is borderline unreadable, and that post was the cherry on top.

I think he meant 1800 yards from scrimmage but yeah, you're right on that point.

Re: Peyton Hillis

Some "fans like him" are fans of the BROWNS and not only of the players. I've been burned too many times by players of Cleveland teams that I thought were here for life to care any more.

I'm a fan of every Browns player past and present, but don't ask me to get attached to any of them. Except maybe Phil Dawson.. that dude has been here forever now and he is still money.

I think you're overreacting. Nobody is saying to get attached to the guy. I don't get attached to any Cleveland player either, in the least bit.. but because some rumor got started, everybody's ready to jump down Hillis's throat about it. Calm down.

Every player in the NFL has their negative attributes. Hillis's rushing style does cause him to fumble more than the average RB, but more often than not, he gets a solid run in & puts it all on the line. He's a bruiser & bruisers get hurt & fumble more than your typical RB would. That's how it is, plain & simple.

All we're saying is that his style of play & his toughness & work ethic fit right in with the city. He's a blue collar tough guy who goes balls out on every run. This isn't some flashy Terrell Owens/Randy Moss type guy we're talking about here.

No, that doesn't mean he's not lying and/or won't leave for more $, but at the same time, Cleveland's past history with guys leaving is really starting to effect how some view the players we currently do have & it's starting to effect how much some enjoy just watching the team.

I'm not saying to trust the guy or to get attached to him, just enjoy him trucking & leapfrogging defenders while you still can.

We don't know any of the numbers, offers, in the Hillis' talks so it's impossible to speculate there. Holmgren came out and said "we're trying like crazy to sign this guy". We haven't heard a leak like we did with Chris Johnson on where the two sides are in the talks. Or if there are even talks at this point. Who knows what they asked and what the Browns offered.

I do know that Hillis likely wants and deserves compensation for the year he had last season. His agent, Hillis, and the Browns know that RB is the shortest shelf life of any position. This may be his 1st and final 'big' deal.

I'm very calm. I'm just stating that if they're unhappy with him for whatever reason and they can get something for him before he walks for nothing, then by all means go for it.

I personally believe that Hillis was completely underused last game and I was pretty upset about it. I wasn't posting in the thread but I was tweeting about how he should be in there since he can catch.. which apparently Hardesty struggles with.

I enjoy Hillis' style of running and I didn't thank his post for the stats.. I just agree that we can't get attached to any player for any reason.

Im guessing because both sides are probably too far apart for anything to get leaked. I don't think Hillis wants CJ money, but him and his people must be asking for more than the Browns want to give. While I don't like the way the Browns are handling the situation, I can't say I blame them for not giving in. It didn't help that they gave Gocong that extension. Hills probably punched a hole in his wall after he saw that.

Re: Peyton Hillis

Um, what?

You really think Holmgren & Heckert were sitting there thinking "Hmm, we could either give Hillis an extension... or give extensions to Moore & Gocong, what should we do?"

Not sure why you think that because we signed these 2 guys to extensions, we won't be able to sign Hillis..?

I said nothing about not being able to sign Hillis. I'm asking why two players of that caliber have extensions and Hillis does not. Mainly referring to Gocong, by the way.

When you say "hasn't been used at all this season" what you really mean is "he hasn't been on the field much, but when he does get on the field he makes plays and is currently leading the team in touchdown receptions" right?

Good god you people are hilarious. He has 2 fucking touchdowns. TWO. You try to make him sound like Randy Moss, "he is leading the team in TD receptions!!!"

He was signed, and is not being used much at all.

Pat Shurmur thinks Peyton Hillis should get more touches

In the hours before kickoff on Sunday, there was a report that some Browns players thought Peyton Hillis staged a sick-out in Week Three to protest his lack of a new contract by sitting out with strep throat.

Hillis strongly denied the claim after the Browns were thrashed by the Titans 31-13, as did coach Pat Shurmur, but all wasn’t well with the running back. He made it pretty clear after the game that he wasn’t thrilled with getting just 10 carries. He essentially split time with Montario Hardesty, who had seven carries, in the running game. Both men caught five passes as well. Hillis said that losing 10-12 pounds while battling strep hadn’t diminished his ability.

“I was fine,” he said. “I’m healthy. My body feels great. I’m just riding the tide and waiting my chances and opportunities and trying to get things done when I can.”

Hillis referred all further questions about his role in the offense to the coaches and Shurmur shared his thoughts on Monday. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that Shurmur said that Hillis should get more snaps and touches. He also said the team has “absolutely not” cut Hillis’ workload because of the contract situation.

Shurmur shouldn’t have much of a problem getting the ball to Hillis more often. He’s the guy running the offense and the guy who chose to put the ball in Hillis’ hands only 15 times on Sunday.

Based on the way the game played out, the Browns’ inability to keep the Titans out of the end zone appeared to be the big culprit in limiting Hillis’ touches. He carried the ball seven times before the Browns fell behind 21-6 in the first half when the pass-run ratio was 20-17. Colt McCoy threw 41 passes in the second half as the team tried to come back and that didn’t leave many carries for anyone.

I would trade Hillis for great value. It's a business. Especially if it gave me what I needed to move up to get Luck.. He's going to be 26 in January, the 'law of running backs' says he's got 4 more years. Stay or go (I don't think he's going anywhere), we've still won out on the Hillis/6th for BQ trade. All this is just stupid Monday morning after a loss, end of the damn world - talk, though.

On the first page you were up in arms over Evan Moore getting an extension and saying how he has been "not used at all" this season. I'm just reminding you, he has 2 touchdowns in 4 games, so he obviously has done something for us. He might not be out there for every play, but when he is out there, it sure seems like Colt targets him nearly every time, especially in the redzone. You were acting as if we gave him some huge ridiculous contract, he is barely making a million a year on this new deal.

I guess a two sentence post means I was "Up in arms", a two sentence post that wasn't even all about Evan Moore.

FFS, people are sensitive.

Probably because they were easier to sign?

I mean, the timing of the extensions have zero to do with how the organization views that player....what's the big deal?

I guess what I'm saying is:

Why the fuck did they sign Gocong, he's mediocre. And:

Sign Peyton Hillis or trade him.
