Plain Dealer's New Cavs Beat Reporter: Chris Haynes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Speaking of Heat Index, I wonder what ESPN does with that ? Am a fan of Mike Wallace so I hope they just turn it into a TrueHoop blog and keep him.

It was just a TrueHoop blog before. I'm sure it will be relegated to one again now that no one gives a shit about Miami.

Cavaliers Beat Reporter Chris Haynes Says “The Cavs Are Going To Have An Adjustment Period”

New Cleveland Cavaliers beat reporter for the Northeast Media Group and the Cleveland Plain Dealer joined Baskin & Phelps to discuss what he expects from the 2014 Cavaliers, on Kyrie playing in the FIBA World Cup, and the move from Portland to Cleveland.

Trail Blazers Courtside - Chris Haynes Says Farewell To Portland Beat

I want to see Windy, Lloyd, and Finnan defended by Marion.

The sheer number of jokes and places that can be taken to is staggering but I'll keep it classy and just say that you might have just named three of the key castmembers for Dodgeball II.

I don't think they could score on Marion if it were played 3-on-1. It's possible they could score if The Bullshit Whisperer was added for a 4-on-1 game.

Just saw on Twitter that Dave McMenamin is leaving the Lakers ESPN beat to cover the Cavs beat, but I can't find anywhere who he's gonna be working for.

Another really good addition to the beat writer corps here in Cleveland. Lakers fans seem really sad to see him go this morning.

Anyone know who hired him?

My guess is they received a lot of good candidates. I mean it doesn't take a genius to realize that covering Lebron is gonna put you in the national spotlight and get you paid. Windhorst wrote the blueprint on that.

Hopefully he can join Lloyd and Withers (and Windhorst, who am sure ESPN will assign him more to the Cavs/Lebron as opposed to the general (read: Big Market teams) league like he is now after they introduced Heat Index) as the top sources for team info.

That thing will slide off that website like it never appeared.

I read something unusual today. It was a clear, insightful, and thoughtful article in The Plain Dealer (Cleveland.com).
Chris Haynes article, "spacing will make difference for Cavs" provided insight on the differences between Miami's big 3, and the Cavs.
How refreshing it is to read a piece that is written by someone who understands the subtleties of the pro game. Looks like a good hire by NEOMG.

Here's a link. Enjoy.

He hasn't taken over the NEOMG/PD twitter account. Still handling his own, which I think makes a lot more sense for him in the long run.

I don't doubt that we'll be happy to have him over MSB in the long-run, but thus far I've been a little underwhelmed by Haynes' writing style for someone who has apparently developed a solid national reputation. Don't get me wrong; he's made some solid observations about team chemistry and composition, so I've no complaints about his understanding of the game so far. It's just that I've caught enough errors in grammar/usage, and awkward turns of phrase, that they feel like a pattern. I don't have the inclination right now to dig up his work on the Blazers beat for comparison, so here's hoping that some of these issues fade as Haynes finds his rhythm in Cleveland. Or, if anyone from NEO Media Group is reading this, I'd be happy to offer my services as an editor. :cha (63):

The emphasis in the Twitter era is sources and scoops, and Haynes has shown he is up to that task. I wasn't expecting the second coming of Grantland Rice.
