Playoff Positioning

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If THAT is the Paul George that will be guarding LBJ in the first round of the playoffs, well, as Bart Scott said...

It makes no sense for them to bring Paul George back this season. They aren't winning anything anyways and they should still end up fielding a decently competitive playoff team without him.

Yeah, they really should just shut him down.

I think Chicago should do the same with Derrick Rose, too.

Rose is different in that he has nothing to lose because of his legs not surviving another season and the bulls might rank/rebuild after this seasons. ( indications from Chicago fans are that there's a 75% chance that thib's is out )

With the Bulls playing in OKC and the Raps playing Portland, as long as we don't completely shit the bed against Orlando we have a wonderful opportunity to gain some very welcomed breathing room for the final stretch run, which sets up pretty well for us to post a lot of wins, get a lot of rest, and get a lot of good team practices in.

The remaining schedule is easy. The Cavs will be favored at least 14 of the final 15 games, so 2nd place in the East is done barring injury. I expect they will have it clinched with at least 4 games remaining so there will be time to rest the starters before the playoffs.

Freakin awesome

Still really want to avoid Indiana. They are now on a month and a half tear. This isn't like a two week thing now. It's been all of February and half of March. Throw in the fact they are the most physical team in the bottom half of the East, I just really don't want to play them in the first round, especially considering I think all of the other potential match-ups are pretty easy.

Basically, @ Memphis is the game where we won't be favored. Besides that, we have the Bulls and Wizards at home, and a bunch of mediocre-to-bad teams. I hope we sweep through Florida, then the next two are at home (Brooklyn and Indiana), and we could have another good streak.

I really hope we can get on a good streak and take out Memphis while we're on it. I know it's looking too far ahead but it's possible that we could secure home court against every team in the West other than the Warriors if we can finish the season well. We're currently 4 games back of Memphis (the #2 seed as of now) and we have an easier remaining schedule than any Western Conference team. If we can beat Memphis at Memphis we will own the head-to-head tie breaker with them. We should win the tie-breaker with all of the teams we've split with due to conference record, which leaves Houston the only team we would lose home court to in the case of a tie. Could be huge if we can make it to the Finals.

the way we have been at home we will win it all if we end up with HC in every series..would be huge if ATL lost in Rd 2

I'll be absolutely stunned if it's not Atlanta and Cleveland in the ECF. Washington, Toronto and Chicago all have big problems.

I think Washington has been severely overrated up to this point. A lot of it is because Beal hasn't taken a leap like so many thought he would. But right now they have absolutely no bench at all and their second best player is probably Nene or Gortat. That's not good enough to scare me and shouldn't scare Atlanta.

As of right now, they aren't even as good as last year. Martell Webster has been awful all season, Andre Miller still had something left last year that he no longer has/had this year (and he's now been traded for the useless Ramon Sessions) and contract year Trevor Ariza is better than old man Paul Pierce.

I was high on Washington before the New Year; but they've been AWFUL lately. Can't take them seriously anymore.

For all that talk after their hot start to the season, Washington is once again coming back down to earth as a middle seed.

Toronto is slumping and getting back to their normal levels.

Chicago is banged up badly. Even if Rose and Butler come back before the postseason, will they be able to knock off the rust in time to make a playoff run? Would they be able to beat Atlanta in a seven game series?

Indiana is playing very well but I'm honestly not scared of them in a seven game series, not with a very rusty (if he even returns to the court this year) Paul George and without Lance Stephenson. They're good defensively, but you can't trust them to score enough to be able to win, and sometimes relying on your defense isn't enough.

By the way (and this is completely unrelated), four of the top eleven teams in opponent points per game are in the Central Division. As soon as Detroit is able to get back to respectability, it will be right up there with the Southwest Division as the toughest in the NBA.
