Pluto: Childress, WCO, and the draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just want to say, that if you have a dominant defense in this league, you'll be in the thick of it every single year.

You don't necessarily need a great QB to have success in the playoffs and further. If you look at the 49ers and the Ravens this year, I personally don't think of Joe Flacco or Alex Smith as anything better than average QB's, this also reverts back to the Jets the past few years with Mark Sanchez. I think the FO wants to put a great defense out there, and thus I think we will eventually end up going Defense in the draft. Even with a great defense though, the Ravens, Jets, and 49ers were all in position to grab a QB better than what they turned out to be in the draft. They just missed on their prospects. I think if the Browns go defense this year, we will probably have another top 10 pick next year, in a year with Matt Barkley, Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray, and Tyler Wilson I think there could be many opportunities to grab a guy that the FO can build this offense around.

No offense, but this logic is very flawed.

The logic of every team in football is that you don't pass on a guy you can believe will be your franchise QB.

Simple as that.

You continue to build the D, but if you get a shot at a QB you always take it, especially if youre below average there now.

If someone says the Browns haven't had a good pass rusher in years--if not decades--and the response is, JABAAL SHEARD, then I'd say the point is pretty well proven.

I'm all about stacking this D with more high draft picks and beating the crap out of the other teams in our division. Teams don't have to be balanced to be good. If D is our strength, then let's keep adding to it.

Defense is a better option than WR or RB IMO.

This draft is defense/ OT heavy on top with two great QB prospects. If we can't get RGIII (or we don't evaluate him as a franchise back) we should go defense. We don't need a left tackle, and it would be silly to pass on Claiborne or Coples just because fans want a more exciting option at WR.

That said, I still think RGIII has to be the goal. And while many on here are against trading up for him, I'd give #4 and #22 if that's what it took to ensure he lands on the Browns. At the end of the day, we would have traded Julio Jones for Phil Taylor, Greg Little, Owen Marecic and the rights to RGIII with our 1st in 2012. That's a trade I'd make any day of the week.

Better than Alex Smith.

Better than Joe Flacco.

Someone who doesn't hamper the offense when they get to be competitive.

So what you're saying is the 49ers and Ravens can't "win consistently" in the NFL?

They've already proven they can.

Yeah, just not championships.

Great teams with good quarterbacks are the teams which will look back on their "run" in 10-15 years saying that if they would have had an above average QB they could have done more.

Just go get a damn QB.

So basically this is our only chance to get an above average QB?

No, but I'm not passing on the chance if I get it.

Not all Browns fans, but many on this board seem to underrate the idea of having an elite QB. They would rather talk about fullbacks and o-linemen.

So out of curiosity, what should I think about this draft if I already rate Aaron Murray, Tyler Bray and Matt Barkley above RGIII? Can we take someone other than a QB in that situation? Cuz god knows with Colt at QB we're gonna have a shot at those three.

You'd really rate all three of them ahead of RG3?

Interesting.
