Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

The CAVS once ruined their team for years when the matched the offer sheet from the cHeat for John Hot Rod Willliams.

That was a 7 year deal. We're discussing 3-4 tops.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I'd love get Gee back and have him be our 6th man if he continues to improve. He has the ability to create his own shot which is important considering Parker, Boobie, Casspi, and basically everyone on our team besides Kyrie cannot do that. He showed he can be a solid spot up shooter this season and his defense was excellent. I'd love to see him make as dramatic of an improvement this summer into next season as he did this past summer. He's young he still has some potential and I think he fits what this team is trying to do. Up tempo, athletic basketball player with upside in a number of areas.

4 mill is fair especially when Gibson is getting 4-6.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I'd gladly take Darius Miller or Jae Crowder in the 2nd round to replace Gee.

You say he still has a lot of room to improve and develop, but I see the opposite. I think he's reached his potential. For all the hooplah about how improved he was from last year to this year, he really didn't improve all that much. Most of it was confidence and understanding the system.

All that's left for Gee is settling into a role where he can maximize his efficiency and I think that's as an 8th man, and I'd rather not pay my 8th man more than $3-4 million per year for more than 2-3 years.

I'd like to retain him, but only at the right price, he's easily replaceable IMO.

The voice of reason. 100% agree on every point you made. Gee only looks like a good player because of how little talent we have right now. Gee is an average player at best, most likely slightly below average.

You don't pay bench players like starters to remain bench players. Its a poor model.

Ginobili, Antonio Davis, Jason Terry, etc. There are some exceptions.

Yes, all examples of players tons better than Alonzo Gee.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Gee is a "glue guy." You get yourself a star point guard and (hopefully) a guy who is above average offensive player at either small forward or shooting guard. Then, you need a guy at the other swingman position who can defend multiple positions, spread the floor a little, and doesn't have a glaring weakness. You could start the glue guy, or have the glue guy come off the bench to mask the limitations of your second group. Doug Christie and Shane Battier are the poster children for a player like this.

I don't think Phoenix is going to break the bank, but they are a strangely hard to predict. Joe Johnson wants the max? Definitely not, because he is the swingman who can get this city multiple championships. Pay for a first round pick like Serge Ibaka? Hell no, trade that guy for cash as soon as possible. But then we are going to throw insane money at Josh Childress because he looks completely average in Europe.

Phoenix is the new Knicks of the league.

What you wouldn't want to spend money to run a lineup of Marion, Amare, Nash, Joe Johnson, and Deng for a few years (with Amare and Nash in there primes)? You're crazy: you should like getting knocked out by SAS every year and take your beating like a man

Sad part is that list doesn't even include Rajon Rondo...

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Yeah, the Suns make terrible roster decisions. If they want Gee that bad we should probably let him go.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I would be really upset if we lost gee! He has been incredible coming off the bench and i feel like the cavs are some improvement and a good draft away from being a 500 team which would mean contending for the playoffs! we need to keep gee!

This just reminds me of the Louis CK bit about people using words like "amazing" to describe simple things like chicken wings. If Gee was "incredible," then James Harden is a robot.

As we all know, Alonzo is going to be restricted. The Cavs will make a reasonable offer and wait it out. If Alonzo can get himself a better offer, the Cavs will match.

However no team is going to try to poach Alonzo. The Cavs have a lot of money to spend and very little talent to retain. It's just asking for a fight.

My take is that this story was intentionally leaked to start the offseason posturing. It could be Alonzo's agent trying to get a better offer from the Cavs. It could be the Suns telling the Cavs "Stay away from Robin Lopez" or we'll make you miserable in return.

Haha... Robin Lopez.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I thought for sure Phoenix was gonna dominate the league for the next ten years until they let Joe Johnson go lol.

If I were an agent and I wanted the Cavs front office to pay attention to my client, I'd get a rumor started through a 2nd tier news source that one of the unpredictable front offices was interested in offering my player about 25% more money than anyone expects. That's just what I'd do.

But what do I know? This summer is going to have a lot more dollars than talent on the free agent market. Last time that happened, Charlie Villanueva got a $38 mil contract. Maybe Gee gets his pay day this year. Good for him.

Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

I have a feeling we're going to lose Gee to another team. Just basing it on history - I can see him just wanting to get out of the Cleveland market...or another team might offer him way too much and the Cavs will have to let him go. but, I hope Gee proves me wrong and stays.

But if your player is a RFA, it only matters how much his offer sheet says, because that's what's going to be matched. Cavs don't have to offer Gee any contract, just wait for another team to do so and then decide if they want to keep him.
