post 121 - OJ Mayo UFA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

These types of articles rarely amount to much, but it is a much more realistic perspective than the guy who suggested giving up picks. The Cavs have some veterans with playoff experience, the Griz should be headed to the playoffs. I'd like to see someone other than Casspi included because I don't think we have seen what Casspi is fully capable of yet, but starting the conversation with Gibson is a good start.

Mayo is going to be in line for an extension and the qualifying offer is north of $7 million. I just can't see the front office putting that kind of money into an undersized guard who projects as a sixth man.

In the past year, Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo's name has appeared in more than few rumors of possible trades. It appears that he'll have to deal with yet another one.
Sports Illustrated has it that the Grizzlies are "looking for a No. 1 pick" in exchange for the man who was the third overall pick in the 2008 draft out of USC.
Mayo now comes off the bench for the Grizz and has been delivering this year. He is averaging 24:30 minutes, 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He's averaging 44 percent for his three-pointers (much higher than his 38.1 percent average) and he scored a career-high six in a game last weekend. His rebounds-per-game is also up from 2.4 last season.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Monday that Mayo probably won't be moved. "Griz management isn't seriously thinking of dealing Mayo nor is his possible, restricted free-agent status this summer a major concern," the paper noted. "Mayo likely will remain with the Griz this season because of his productivity and the Grizzlies' ability to control his future with the right of first refusal on contract offers."

Memphis came back from 20 points down Monday night beat the Golden State Warriors for the team's seventh straight win.

I'd consider Parker, Gibson, and the Kings' 1st for Mayo and a future 2nd. Memphis does own a future 2nd from Toronto.

You could break it apart and look at it as two transactions: Gibson and the Kings' 1st for Mayo and then Parker for a future 2nd. This move gives the Grizzlies outside shooting, leadership/positive locker room presence, playoff experience, and financial flexibility as Boobie's contract is only partially guaranteed next season.

He stays the season. He is worth more to a playoff run than a pick could give them. I could see him being moved on draft night if possible.

We should keep Boobie imo. Parker, Sessions, 2nd rounder for Mayo or even Sessions and Casspi for Mayo? Pull the trigger.

I'd be down for a combination of Sessions/Parker/crummy picks for Mayo, but I don't think Memphis would like that at all.

I would definitely do Mayo for Gibson/Casspi. Gibson's a fine bench player and all that, but he's not capable of being a starter. Mayo's the best player in the trade and he's almost two full years younger than Gibson. He could be our starting SG for the next 5 years easily. Casspi's just another guy at this point. At best he's a backup SF on a good team, no big loss there.

That one feels like an absolute no brainer.

The idea of OJ Mayo is better then the actual OJ Mayo. That said I still think he has enormous potential and could thrive with KI.

Sessions should not be involved in that trade whatsoever. He and Andy are our only tradable options that could net 1st round picks. You don't "cash in" those chips just yet.

Casspi/Boobie for Mayo? I'd be down.

Grizzlies expect No. 1 pick for O.J. Mayo

If it would take a 1st rd pick to get Mayo, there's no way in hell we should be anywhere near them talks.

If they want a first round pick then they're going to be trading with a team that finishes toward the top of the league. It's gonna be a low first round pick.

Have to agree with Damage. The idea of Mayo may be better than the actual Mayo but he's still an intriguing enough option to seriously consider doing it.

If Memphis wants a #1 it would have to be a Heat #1. A trade that does work is Gibson and a Heat #1 for Mayo.

One other factor to consider is that the Cavs would have to have some idea of what Mayo is looking for in his next contract. If he wants big money than you probably don't make a deal.
Also don't know if some past character issues with Mayo might turn off the Cavs too.
