post 121 - OJ Mayo UFA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mayo didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Grizzlies, will be an unrestricted free agent now.

Assume we won't be interested now that we drafted Waiters, but being an OJ Mayo fan I can dream.

Mayo would be nice to have in the rotation. Would play significant minutes. I'm in.

Wonder what kind of money he's being offered.

We can offer him some nice playing time. I'd moreso be interested in signing him so that we could beef up his value and trade him for assets down the road..

No interest in Mayo at all, especially since we drafted Waiters.

He would be a sixth man here. He didn't like being a sixth man in Memphis. The ship has long sailed on OJ Mayo.

Pass.

Bet he ends up in Boston or Indiana, both teams have been interested in him for awhile now.

Why the fuck not. He's better than anyone we had last year. IF and only IF he agrees to be 6th man combo guard..

Boston would actually make sense. Ray might leave, or come off the bench. OJ Mayo can score and that's pretty much it, and considering that team is D-Heavy, they need scoring from the back court (Rondo)

Since Waiters is so used to the bench, wouldn't he come off if we had Mayo.

Orange Juice Mayonaisse; stupid name

I would hope it would be the other way around. I'd hope that Waiters is starting. To think he doesn't is an indication something is wrong somewhere. They drafted him to form a dynamic back court tandem with Kyrie.

Point is moot though. There's no way Mayo is anywhere near this team now. Chris Grant is going to stick to his plan.

I'd be pretty surprised if Waiters turned out better than Mayo. I'm not ready to invest our future starting 2 guard as Waiters. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but IMO Mayo would be a huge upgrade

If you're talking about just next year, it doesn't matter who is better at that point. The whole purpose of starting/playing Waiters a bunch is to aid with his development despite other "upgrades" likely being available elsewhere.

If you're talking long-term.....well, if Waiters doesn't become any better than Mayo the Cavs might as well kiss Kyrie goodbye. There is a reason he's an UFA so early in his career.
