8 team league.. roster is QB RB RB WR WR TE FLEX DB DL LB -- 8 bench -- 2IR
Would like advice on how my picks went-what guys I should be wary off--I actually take this advice(I suck at FF)

6 Tom Brady, NE QB
11 Ryan Mathews, SD RB
22 Jimmy Graham, NO TE
27 Trent Richardson, Cle RB
38 Steve Smith, Car WR
43 Miles Austin, Dal WR
54 Jason Pierre-Paul, NYG DE
59 Eric Decker, Den WR
70 Antonio Brown, Pit WR
75 Derrick Johnson, KC LB
86 BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Cin RB
91 Tim Tebow, NYJ QB:thumbdown(Someone got on my computer while I was away for a minute and picked Tebow before I could do anything)
102 Demaryius Thomas, Den WR
107 Shonn Greene, NYJ RB
118 Eric Weddle, SD S
123 Sean Lee, Dal LB
134 Calais Campbell, Ari DE
139 LaRon Landry, NYJ S

After the unfortunate Tebow pick, I dropped Tebow and picked up Mendenhall (moved to IR) then picked up Britt (moved to IR) and finally somehow picked up Jay Cutler.
So what guys were horrible picks and what guys will actually do good this year? I went almost fully off the projected stats btw..

EDIT: Not for money-Im too bad at this to risk any money :chuckles:

I hope this isn't for money

Only pick I like is Brady and I think you still took him a little high. 8 team league.....D. Thomas at 102 was nice though. I like Eric Decker at 59 too

I'm amazed Trent Richardson lasted until #27. Defensive stats can be harder to predict this early, so keep one eye open during the preseason.

It looks like a good team. Hard to tell with out seeing what players were available. But, it seems TE was taken to high. Instead of a TE I would have taken another RB for the flex. The flex spot is more valuable the a good TE. Other then that a good draft. I am not familiar enough with def leagues.

The only TE I would take in the third round is Gronk.

I have to assume Rodgers and Brees were gone at 6? Even with all the NO hoopla Brees has way more receiving weapons than Brady.

How Mathews lasted till 11 is kind of amazing. I think a lot of people are undervaluing his potential. With Talbert gone he is going to get a lot of goal line looks in addition to being an every down back.

The Steve Smith pick is an atrocity. Carolina blows and I think you fell into the trap of drafting someone on past acomplshments.

Also I was looking at the waiver wire, and found Charles Tillman undrafted.. I saw that he was the #1 ranked DB last year, but his this year projections are kinda low... Anyhow I decided to drop LaRon Landry and Pick up Tillman.. Whats wrong with Tillman? Why do the "pundits" think he isnt going to be very good this year? What am I missing?

I might have taken McCoy over brady... but im not sure the point system. I doubt its PPR, and I honestly think last years stats for McCoy were the exception and not the rule. Mathews in the second round was a good consolation prize.

Antonio Brown will probably be a good late round steal depending on what Mike Wallace does. Brown got a payday and Wallace didn't, so there is a chance he could sit out the season, but I doubt it.

The Brady pick is the only pick I like, other than that this team is pretty bad for an 8 team league.

Picking Brady is a smart pick. From Matthew Berry's Draft Day Manifesto:

Over the past three years, 42 percent of the running backs and wide receivers who finished in the top 20 at their position were not ranked so in the preseason. Conversely, only 33 percent of quarterbacks drafted outside the top 10 QBs finished as top-10 QBs. And many of them -- guys like Eli last year, Matt Ryan in 2010 and Ben Roethlisberger in 2009 were drafted just outside the top 10 and were not huge surprises.
/.../
Look, in an ideal world, you want your first few picks to carry your team and help you win weeks by themselves, More often than not, the highest scorer on every team is going to be a quarterback and you want your quarterback to be better than your opponents'. If Eli is only half as "studly" as Rodgers, see what happens when you get even deeper, with guys like Matt Ryan.

All this boils down to this: You need a stud quarterback. And this year, the rock-solid list is Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

If you look at the running backs that were drafted in the top 20.. there were 39 running backs drafted outside of that top 20 who had multiple weeks as top 20 point scorers among running backs (Lynch and Sproles were top 20 in points for 10 weeks, Fred Jackson and Reggie Bush had 9 weeks, etc.)

Having a top QB means you don't need to keep a backup QB on your bench which allows for another bench spot for a running back.

I also really like the Graham pick.

Berry on drafting Gronk and Graham early:

Graham and Gronkowski are so much better than anyone else at their position, they are both worth second-round picks. That's gonna be pricey for some folks, but history tells us that tight ends are, in general, more likely to retain draft day value than running backs or wide receivers.

I really like your receiving core. I think Steve Smith and Miles Austin will be dependable. Antonio Brown and Demaryius Thomas are two guys that will put up big numbers. That's assuming that Ben has learned Todd Haley's new offense and that Peyton stays healthy. Personally, I think Antonio Brown is a better WR than Mike Wallace. He may not be as fast on a go-route but he's a a better route runner with pretty reliable hands.

I'm doing my first IDP league this year so I don't have much to offer on that front, but I think it would be helpful to drop a few of those guys and take a flier on some running backs. But before you do that, look and see how many points you should expect to get from an average defensive player and from and average running back. Make decisions based on that (i.e. if you have a top defensive player who is likely going to outscore the running back you're going to pickup.. don't do that transaction).

Also, depending on what the waivers and free agent settings are.. you can win your league just by watching games on Sunday. If you see a WR getting a lot of targets and/or making big plays.. Go pick him up. If you see a running back getting a bulk of the carries. Go pick him up. If you see a top HB in a run heavy offense get injured.. Go pick up his backup.

Honestly, that team is kind of atrocious, especially for an 8 team league. Brady and Graham are the only two guys that are considered elite at their position. That being said, it remains to be seen if the Sean Payton suspension will have an effect on the offense, and in turn on Graham.

Biggest hole is definitely at WR. Smith's getting up there in years and Austin's really inconsistant and injury prone. Decker is solid and same with Brown, though the Wallace situation could see him getting more balls but also more coverage. Honestly, the biggest steal of this draft was Demaryius Thomas. I have absolutely no idea how he lasted until 102. With Manning coming into Denver, he could wind up being the best WR on your team. When was the last time a #1 WR from a Manning lead team went that low? Never? You do have some nice depth at RB though.

Biggest thing for you will be watching the WW for WRs. Unless you're required to have 2 defensive players at each position on your team, I'd only carry one of each and use the other spots for WR and RB. There's no reason to have a 2nd DE or LB when you have two studs in JPP and Derrick Johnson. You're never going to bench those guys, and even if they get injured or have a bye you can just dump a weak player from your bench and pick up a defensive player off waivers.

Who are some guys still left on waivers, particularly at WR and RB?

Only required 1 LB/DL/DB

Guys left on waivers..

WR: Laurent Robinson Jac, Nate Washington Ten, Denarius Moore Oak, Darrius Heyward-Bey Oak, Reggie Wayne Ind, Lance Moore NO, Santonio Holmes NYJ

RB: Donald Brown Ind, Michael Bush Chi, Mike Tolbert Car, Pierre Thomas NO, Toby Gerhart Min, James Starks GB, Daniel Thomas Mia

Gerhart intrigues me...

I'd pick up Reggie Wayne. I think he's still gonna be solid. He was always my first WR drafted for like 3 years in a row, dude is consistent

I'd say making roster moves in July is just an exercise in over-thinking your roster I'd wait for the preseason to even begin worrying about the last position on your roster.

The real question, why have the draft now? Never understood pre preseason drafts.

Pretty brutal for an 8 team league. If you hadn't put that in about Tebow I wouldn't have doubted that you actually took him. Sorry. Hopefully you get in another league where you have a better shot to compete.

Then again...you never know and the stars may align for you.
