Why hazardous?

idk I guess you'd have to read up on the failsafes. It's never recommended to leave a space heater running and unattended.

Probably my overly-cautious father coming through who was always big on safety (worked at FirstEnergy).

Ceramic heater was eh, went with convection and a timed outlet. Perfect.

What is your anticipated energy cost from this option?

Also not a huge deal for you bc San Diego so not going to be using too much heat.

Look at the sealing around your doors and windows. Really easy to find a problem: when it’s cold outside just stick your hands around the doors and windows and really focus on it. Local cool spots will almost feel like slight breezes.

I still think you should have bought a small crypto mining rig but whatever.

like 28/month.

I need to take the blinds off if I want to do the insolation again, and buy another hair dryer, and I don't wanna do either

Absolutely not true.

It costs less to heat one room (for 2 hours)with a space heater than it does to heat the whole place.

That makes you efficient. Not the heater

has anyone here installed a remote car starter ? If yes would you recommend it ? What brand ? What model ? Spill the beans !

Funny but true.

Normally when we think of efficiency we think of heat lost that isn't contributing to work. Car engines are on the order of 20% efficient, that is, only 20% of the potential energy in the fuel is used to move the car forward. The rest is lost to drivetrain friction (heat), tire rolling resistance (heat), etc...mostly in the form of heat.

The point of a space heater is to turn electricity into heat so pretty much the power rating is how much energy you are using to create heat.

The difference is in the heat delivery mechanism. You could run a low powered convection (fan) space heater pointed towards you and use less energy to heat yourself than a higher powered heater further away.

Or just use a god damned blanket, pussy. Even my wife has grown accustomed to me keeping the house at 65 in the winter (granted, upstairs is ~68 and I'm always downstairs where it's cooler than 65). Frankly I would be fine with 60. And I just wear athletic shorts and a tshirt.

Had one on the Rover I leased. It was awesome on cold days.

Car would be fully heated, windshield defrosted and the seats toasty too before I stepped.

And no issues with battery draining or range issues ?

We got some local installer to do ours after market in the first one and then got it with our new car. No clue what manufacturer it is for the first one. The range seemed to be pretty far and it goes through building walls consistently. Zero battery issues. I’d never not have a remote starter again. Ever.

It’s awesome to sprint into a car on a -10 windchill day and have it be 80 degrees inside.
