The fact you're using the term owned pretty much establishes your level of intelligence for all of us. Of course, I guess if by you not being able to understand my posts qualifies as "owning" someone, you've certainly done that.

i understand that you dont quite mean what you write, at best.

still waiting

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins are "serious" about signing free agent Albert Pujols and "intend to make a competitive offer."
Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reported previously that the Marlins' bigger priorities were Jose Reyes and Yoenis Cespedes, with Pujols more of a longshot. Evidently, though, their courtship of the slugger is real. Pujols is in Miami Friday, having lunch with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and other front office executives while also taking in a tour of the team's new ballpark. Spencer adds that Loria, in particular, "covets" Pujols.

Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports that while the Marlins would love to sign Albert Pujols, they are viewing Jose Reyes and Yoenis Cespedes as their "realistic targets."
The bottom line price on Pujols is likely around $200 million, and the Marlins should be able to land both Reyes and Cespedes for less than that. They have been attached to just about every upper-echelon free agent on the market, so it's clear that they plan on spending plenty of cash as they move into their new ballpark next year.

The Pujols thing seems more like a courtesy to Loria at this point IMO.

What do you mean by 'courtesy'- that Pujols flew in to talk to him because he respects him and did it as a courtesy? Loria had his GM find money for Pudge and Carlos Delgado before. I could see Loria OKing this if he thinks it would make him money. Maybe it is a PR ploy, maybe not, but i dont think he does this if he felt they couldnt at least compete.

I don't know if I'd call it a PR ploy. But I don't think Pujols wants to spend his career in Miami. Of course, they could come out and offer some outlandish deal (30 million) which would have him reconsider. I think Pujols' is going to listen to their pitch (as he'll do with a couple other teams) and politely decline.

When the regular competition isn't there in this market (BOS, NY, PHI), he'd got to get the bidding going somewhere. A wild card like Loria fits that pretty well.

I'll wait to hear what incarceratedbob says before I rush to predictions though...

I know that this concept has been discussed regarding other athletes in other sports, but how much of a factor do you think Florida's tax system plays? When talking about a $200+ million contract, the differences between what each state taxes become even greater. I know next to nothing about the tax systems of other states so I can't comment too much on it, but I figured it was an interesting point to consider

If you are a Florida taxpayer, seeing that beautiful thing light up after a Gabby Sanchez HR has to really warm the cackles...:chuckles: Amazing what people will buy when it isn't their money that they are spending. I put that up there with 20-ton concrete tigers, full-scale in-stadium model train sets, and retractable roofs on football stadiums used for 8 games a year.

Marlins made offers to Pujols Burhele Reyes and Madson according to Rosenthal

After 2 years they aren't going to be able pay these contracts once everyone has checked out the new ballpark.

I'm disappointed in the jersey change. The old ones were solid and Classic to me.

Never thought the Marlins would be making offers to big time free agents before the Indians.

Never thought the Marlins would win a World Series before the Indians.
