Purdue vs. Ohio State - 9pm ESPN 1/25/11

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
whats uppp

sully stepping out knocking down 3's....he has it in his game

He can do a lot more...But with this buckeye team there's no reason for him to be out shooting jumpers

His handle isn't that bad either, He would bring the ball down the floor for Northland when the game was on the line (state championship)

Damnit, this bitch is dragging me away from the game.

They just said J-Sully plans on being there 2 years according to OSU staff. Johnson on Purdue is predicted to go in the 2nd round. So, keep an eye on him as well.

They also said they don't think he projects out to be a top 3 pick....but I'd bet money Sully doesn't slip past 3.

Yep also said this is before agents talk to him.

I take it you watched him in high school? How is he at FT's?

Next person to quote an announcer I might block them. :chuckles:

Sullinger is on the bench and now I'm uninterested.

what a blowout. i hope osu wins it all this year

Sully has very nice form on the jumper. He used it a ton in high school. The question was asked about the threes in his interview after the game. He stated "I got lucky". ,,,.. wait, what? Lucky my ass. He's too damn modest. I'm sure he'll grow out of that.

Balanced scoring. 19, 17, 13, 13, 11 Who do you try to shut down if you are playing them? You shut down one or two and the 3rd or 4th option steps up.

Honestly, the only games left I see as a possible lose are the next one... at Northwestern, and at Wisconsin. I can't see anyone beating them if they play like this though.

This is good.

Any questions? No. 1 Ohio State puts on a show in ripping No. 12 Purdue, 87-64

Jared Sullinger helped get the Buckeyes out to a quick start Tuesday with this jumper over Purdue's Travis Carroll in the first half. Sullinger finished with 17 points as Ohio State had six players in double figures.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Aaron Craft was spinning in the lane and crossing over defenders out top, while David Lighty flew to the rim and scooped in a right-handed layup, as Jared Sullinger found open teammates out of double teams and the Buckeyes made two-thirds of their 3-pointers.

Before 24 NBA scouts, with the national college basketball world taking a long, hard look at Columbus for the first time this season, the No. 1 team in the nation on Tuesday night played one of the best first halves of basketball you'll see.

They didn't let up after that. Moving to 21-0 and 8-0 in the Big Ten with an 87-64 dismantling of No. 12 Purdue (17-4, 6-2), Ohio State answered every question anyone may have asked about their schedule, their depth or their ability to put together a complete game.

After one of the many sequences that ended with another play for the highlights, the crowd of 17,556 at Value City Arena rose -- no, jumped -- to its feet as Sullinger, the freshman big man who made another case for national player of the year not with his stats but with his all-around game, pounded his chest with his right fist and screamed, "Let's Go!"

This was the Buckeyes when they go.

Ohio State was already a unanimous No. 1 in the AP poll and had all but two first-place votes in the coaches poll coming into the game, yet this legitimized what everyone thought. And this will linger. If and when that first loss comes for Ohio State, and when the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee gets together in Indianapolis in March, whatever else the Buckeyes do in the next two months, they'll always have, "Remember that near-perfect game when they blew out Purdue?"

A year ago in West Lafayette, Boilermakers' star Robbie Hummel scored 29 first-half point as Purdue took a 12-point first-half before Evan Turner led a remarkable comeback win for the Buckeyes. So even Ohio State's 20-point lead at the half came with the tiniest of hesitations.

Doug Lesmerises’ 4 Things from OSU-Purdue
•1. It would have been nice for Value City Arena to have sold out on Tuesday night, but it’s just so big, seating 18,809, that anything at 9 p.m. on a Tuesday is going to be a tough sell, even Nos. 1 vs. 12. I can remember being stunned at empty seats during Greg Oden’s freshman season, knowing this was a one-year window to see that talent. You have to assume this is a one-year window with Jared Sullinger as well, just as was Evan Turner performing at a player-of-the-year level last season. Still, the student section continues to improve every game and even without a sellout, Tuesday night was a pretty good atmosphere for a No. 1 team.
•2. When William Buford is efficient on offense and making his 3-pointers, Ohio State gets very, very difficult to defend.
•3. It might seem odd for center Dallas Lauderdale to continue to start when Aaron Craft is getting so many more minutes as the point guard and primary ballhandler. But Thad Matta has always liked having an energy guy off the bench as a sixth man, from someone like Daequan Cook to B.J. Mullens, and Craft is the best guy to fit that role on this team. His presence provides a boost four or five minutes in, while Lauderdale can play all-out for the first five minutes. Lauderdale can get some easy points if teams try to double-team Jared Sullinger and he can alter shots on defense. Once Craft gets in the flow, you don’t want to take him out, so this is one of the best ways to get Lauderdale minutes.
•4. If you haven’t yet seen the now-infamous “Party in the USA” vocal efforts by Sullinger, Craft and Jon Diebler, go ahead and hit the link. The "singing" was recorded by Ohio State for its in-game videoboard and made its official debut before Tuesday night’s game. Enough of them had probably seen it, so they were able to cheer, instead of sitting with their mouths hanging open. There are more singing videos on the way from players like David Lighty and Lauderdale. So this isn’t over.

But any hint of Purdue hope was snuffed out quickly, the Ohio State lead reaching 30 at one point. When Lighty flew down the lane for a right-handed dunk for an 80-53 Ohio State advantage with eight minutes to play, it was almost hard to believe.

When two good teams play -- and there's no doubt that Purdue, led by 22 points from JaJuan Johnson and 16 from E'Twaun Moore, is a good team -- the trailing squad always makes a run. That's the nature of the game. Teams on the road often get shocked, then they adjust.

Purdue did that, but maybe for a minute or two.

Then the Buckeyes were back to their best.

It was across the board. Purdue eventually got its two stars going after slow starts, but the Buckeyes spent 40 minutes with five players running as one. Look at the numbers.

• William Buford, 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including five of six on 3-pointers.

• Sullinger, 17 points and seven rebounds.

• Jon Diebler, 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists, 3 of 5 on 3-pointers.

• Craft, 11 points, six assists, six rebounds.

• Lighty, 10 points, three rebounds, three assists.

• Freshman Deshaun Thomas, 13 points, six rebounds.

• Dallas Lauderdale, four points on 2-of-2 shooting, with some good early defense on Johnson to force him into a slow start.

Following up an impressive road win at Illinois on Saturday, Ohio State couldn't have done anything better against the second-place team in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes now have a two-game lead in the league race, and they have something else more important.

They have the knowledge of what they look like at their best. The rest of college basketball knows it now as well.
