Q Arena Renovations (scoreboard, court, ...) and In-Game Experience

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Agreed that they are a decade away, largely disagree on the prospect of moving the arena to an East Side suburb.

We've seen firsthand the economic hit a city like Atlanta is going to take due to the relocation of their stadium. This city is doing everything they can to revive what was a very depleted and economically fractured downtown. You fix it by giving a people a reason to go there (they've done a great job of improving this, by the way), not by taking venues away.

The Q is vital to garnering downtown traffic, especially in the dead of winter.

Not at all what I meant. I meant east side of Cleveland proper. Like around the CSU area maybe, or down a way closer to the Clinic. That's really just an alternative suggestion to staying downtown anyways. I like the idea of having everything downtown, but I feel like The Q/Progressive Field serve as boundaries... Stuff beyond Carnegie and Ontario is not good.

That will never happen unless they upgrade the rapid. Which, obviously isn't going to happen.

What about an arena in the Flats? It could feed right into the brand new reconstruction of the area and would be a massive boost to what they're trying to accomplish over there.

Grab dinner at the new steakhouse, see a game, head over to a bar or club afterwards. Out-of-towners will have a hotel within a stone's throw.

Bear in mind, I realize there is a -100% this ever happens.

...why would Dan Gilbert move his arena away from his casino? The idea of one was to feed the other.

Whoops, my apologies for misinterpreting.

Must have skipped the last sentence of my post rendering the rest of it irrelevant. I am toying with little fantasy ideas in my head. Obviously he isn't going to shoot his own business in the foot.

RTA invested tens of millions in federal dollars to build the Lakefront line in response to the original West bank of the Flats night life. Money that could/would/should have been spent to extend either the red line further east or the blue line (which they are just now getting to). West Bank promptly died after it was built and the RTA was left with an unused track. Why would RTA invest further limited dollars in expanding to something that has shown to be fickle (night life locations)? Cleveland's population that isn't young professionals living in Ohio City, Tremont or downtown lives too far out. They do not drive to a rapid station to go downtown, see a game, get drunk, then ride a rapid back to their car anyway.

I don't want to de-rail this thread, but you're correct as hell... The line that goes from Tower City to the Muni Lot is a monumental waste of money. They don't run it much.

The whole thought of having the stations where you park and ride is half-assing the purpose of public transportation. Not that they have the money to do it, but there should be a "loop", then another, wider loop that encircles many of the suburbs (or "Emerald Necklace"). From there, you web the whole metro area when you have the money to. They made the mistake of trying to solve the problem with one project, the rapid project. It should've been a first phase of a greater vision.

Getting a new floor as well

In between all of this, I'm not sure what to even expect... Dan is wearing the great blue, orange and white helmet in the scoreboard video. Court is a darker shade of blue with gold serving as the main uniform. My guess will be the unis go to a wine & blue with a gold alt next season.... I have no inside knowledge, though.

AND if I'm not mistaken... There's a part of the sidelines that has a "silhouette" of the Cleveland skyline.. Really cool.

Do we get this new floor this or next season?

It looks done, not sure why they would sit on it for a year. They'll probably use the old one at the scrimmage and during preseason, they'll save the new floor and scoreboard for opening night.

Also noticed the skyline on the court, should look awesome.

Ok and do you know if there will be new jerseys as well?

I'd think not this year for new jerseys, but next. They might play around with the CavFanatic jersey again, but media day already happened in the all yellow jerseys. And no, that isn't gold. :chuckle:

OK, I don't want to be a jerk here, but that new floor is like a 94-foot compilation of bad basketball design cliches. The gigantic center court logo (once again with a thick drop shadow!) and two-tone wood was played out five years ago.

And sorry, while I know most people here will go nuts for it, is there anything really distinctive about Cleveland's skyline if you're not from here? Just off the top of my head...Denver already has their local skyline on their alternate jerseys. Dallas just unveiled alts for next season with a skyline. Xavier has the Cincinnati skyline on their floor. There are plenty of others. Be original, guys.

Meh, I disagree with the skyline not being distinct. I don't think it belongs on the jersey, but there are several buildings and alignments that are unique to Cleveland. Unless you follow Mike Polk, I guess.

An example would be a giant triangle window smack-dab in the center of the skyline.. Or the new federal courthouse, which is a semi-circle. Terminal Tower might be old or foreign to you, but it's very unique. You just don't really care because it's not plastered everywhere like the Empire State Building.
