Q Arena Renovations (scoreboard, court, ...) and In-Game Experience

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Meh, I disagree with the skyline not being distinct. I don't think it belongs on the jersey, but there are several buildings and alignments that are unique to Cleveland. Unless you follow Mike Polk, I guess.

An example would be a giant triangle window smack-dab in the center of the skyline.. Or the new federal courthouse, which is a semi-circle. Terminal Tower might be old or foreign to you, but it's very unique. You just don't really care because it's not plastered everywhere like the Empire State Building.

I'm not saying they're not nice-looking, well-designed buildings. They're fine. But they're not iconic. Nobody outside of Cleveland is looking at an illustration of the Cleveland skyline and saying, "Ooh! It's the federal courthouse in Cleveland!"

Put it this way: If I put the aforementioned black-and-white versions of the Dallas, Denver and Cincinnati skylines next to each other, how many posters here do you think could tell them apart?

Not many... Unless they've been to two of them. That just would insinuate that skylines for everyone to see are a bad idea in general.

Think about this, though.. Who the hell cares whether or not visiting fans care about/recognize the skyline? The season ticket holders and Cavs fans in general know damn well about the skyline and would probably think it's cool. They buy the tickets, not the d-bags watching on TNT.

Does Citizentino know that a home team's court is designed to appease home fans and not everyone else?

Yes, and I realize I'm in the minority here. I'm fine with that. If you guys want to do backflips over copying what other franchises and schools have done instead of coming up with something unique and original that someday might motivate others to want to copy us, then have at it.

Again, I don't think it's about trying to be the most unique. It's about fan experience.

If you're looking for "something unique and original that someday might motivate others to want to copy us", how about the 3D floor design for Z's retirement? Or possibly the flames/huge new scoreboard in a non-football arena? Or the watch parties?

You're barking up the wrong tree trying to say that the Cavs aren't original in their fan experience coordination.

I loved the 3D production for Z's retirement ceremony -- it was innovative and extremely well executed. I'm thrilled that technology is being incorporated into the player intros this year full-time. (And, it just so happens that other teams took notice, too. Multiple clubs are bringing it to their buildings as well.)

I thought it was just the Cavs and Sixers this year, and no one will be watching the Sixers.

you know what is awesome about the new court and scoreboard? the cavs could have been like we landed two of the top players in the league as well as other good pieces but no they also want to make the in-game experience state of the art

I really don't follow your criticism of the skyline. We're talking about a basketball court... in Cleveland... featuring the skyline... of Cleveland. Everyone that attends games in Cleveland or watches a game of Cleveland sports can recognize the fact that the skyline on display of the court is in fact Cleveland. Why would I care if a kid in Oklahoma City didn't recognize the Cleveland skyline? Why is it wrong of them to display such a thing just because a poster on a forum doesn't think the skyline is "iconic" enough? The Cavs are going to get the most national attention of all our sports this season, I think it's a good idea to feature the skyline so more people can in fact tell Cleveland apart from other cities. I don't see why this is a problem.

The big C I agree with you, it's time for it to go and try something new. But otherwise, I think it's a much needed upgrade and hopefully they'll tweak it a little more next year.

Just wait if we get the all-star game in couple of years.

I don't mind any of the additions to the court individually. But to me it seems like they're trying to do too much at once (adding colors, new logo, skyline in addition to already having the "all for one one for all" sideline, skyline, cavs C/sword as the smaller logo on the court, two-toned floor). Take away 1 or 2 of those things and it'd improve IMO.

Should have put the Akron skyline
