Over Inception?

I've noticed fans of Social Network are very into the film. I thought it was good, but it failed to really move me at all. Inception though, I thought was literally a perfect work in literally all respects; 10/10.

This movie will go down in history as one of the greatest films of the 21st century.

Everything about inception was perfect. The cast, the script, the score, cinematography, the themes ect.. It's a shame. Why does the Academy hate Nolan? Is it because he despises digital?

That's my issue. He's being beat out by one hit wonders and it's frustrating. Besides Matthew Mc none of these other guys will have a worthy performance again. And they're beating out the best performer year in and year out.

The issue with Leo is that he's always been consistent with his roles. And you know it's going to be a good film, because he's in it. But he really doesn't push the boundaries (besides Inception). Now, McConaughey just blew everyone out of the water. I even questioned last summer-- "Is Matthew McConaughey a good actor?"

When was the last time Leo put out a garbage movie?
I can name about 5+ for McConaughey.

I agree with half of this.. I think Leo is a better actor overall than pretty much everyone who beat him out over the years. Matthew McConaughey has put up some really good performances recently though, so it's kind of confused, but I do think Leo is a better actor than him, Whitaker, and Foxx. His work is always good, and the same can't be said for those other actors.

I think that owes more to Leo's ability to pick projects than his ability as an actor. I mean, he clearly does have ability as an actor, but ultimately I don't think he necessarily has the ability of some of the guys that have beaten him. He's just better at selecting his gigs.

You are correct that, going into a Leo movie, you can assume it will probably be a pretty good film. At the same time, it's hard for me to think of any Leo films where his performance has blown me out of the water. He's always good, but he's rarely amazing. And really, that's what the Best Actor Oscar is all about.

To put it bluntly, I just don't think Leo has it in him to put in a performance like Whitaker did in Last King. I also think people tend to confuse the quality of the movies Leo is in with the quality of his individual performance, as if the two are one and the same.

Saw Frozen last night w/the girlfriend...don't care if I get bashed or not, 7/10. (My gf & I go to plays/musicals, etc. quite frequently, went to Rock of Ages last month)

Started off by dreading going to this but I knew she really wanted to see it so what the hell. Happy wife, husband can have a life, right? Classic Disney movie in the way of it's a "musical" type movie but it is way more modern than the old Disney classics. The first song was classic Disney, but all the other ones seemed straight off of Broadway (which I walked out telling my gf this will without a doubt be made into a Broadway play, looked it up and it actually is..) Story line wasn't too bad, actually flowed pretty well. What made it not bad was it was actually pretty funny. You kind of could guess the end (how it actually ends) but how it got there was a little loop. We were the youngest people in there (28/25) besides two little kids, all adults, didn't expect that. The highlight of the night was it was a Tuesday so at movie theaters around here, regular movies (not 3D) are only $5.25. Two tickets, pop & popcorn only $20.

If you frequent plays/musicals with your wife/husband/gf/bf or have kids I would recommend it.

He does choose great movies. But he's not a wallflower in those movies. He delivers and always has. As far as quality... idk how you can say his individual performance is confused with the movies performance. Memorable scenes that he has owned.

Hotel scene in Inception
Limbo scene with Coltiland in Inception
Aviator in general
The scene in Carraway's house in Gatsby when Daisy comes over for tea
The Hotel scene in Gatsby when Buchanan and Gatsby are fighting over Daisy

That's a few that come to mind. The scene with the chick in Departed at her apartment.
He brings his characters to life. Better than most on a consistent basis. You dont watch Inception and think "That's Leo playing Cobb". He is Cobb

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

And again, I don't think he's a bad actor or anything. In fact, I think he's a pretty good one. I've enjoyed almost every movie he's done. However, his movies are as good as they are because he picks great scripts and great directors to work with more so than because of his sheer presence. He's typically good and occasionally great, but at the end of the day I just think there are plenty of guys out there with either more range or a higher ceiling as actors.

Take Chiwetel Ejiofor, for example. That guy has been incredible in everything I've seen him in, and I haven't even seen 12 Years a Slave yet. I remember his performance from Children of Men more than any Leo performance I can recall. His performance as the antagonist in Serenity was fantastic too.

Was Chiwetel Ejiofor ever nominated for best actor for any of these movies? Was Serenity nominated for anything in the Oscars like Best actor/ Best Actress/ Best movie? Leo has been delivering on a consistent basis and he has been overlooked far too long. I just dont want Leo to get an Oscar for a crappy role that he did only cos they were not able to give it to him like they did to Sean Penn in The Mystic River (It is a good movie but dont tell me that his acting was sooo amazing that it deserved oscars - I felt Tim Robbins was more deserving). And Colin Firth for the Kings Speech ? tch tch !!

What does whether the movie got nominated for Oscars have to do with the quality of an individual performance? There have been plenty of incredible performances that weren't nominated for anything.

There are quite a few scenes in Django that Leo absolutely nails. If there was a performance he should have won for... I think Django is it. Christopher Waltz proved he is good at portraying that one character, but I think it's a shame he got the supporting actor nomination for Django. It was basically a repeat performance.

I forgot about Django.
The dinner scene
Sheila and her bitches
Mandingo fight

Not shocked by the review. I had no idea that Oldman and Keaton were in this. Anytime you hear that Hollywood is rebooting something, 11/10 it's going to be bad. You just know Hollywood doesn't want to think out of the box. It's easier to re-do classic films. They better not touch "The Breakfast Club".

My point was he was nominated for best actor more than Forest Whittaker or JAmie Fox or McConaghaey and yet he has never won it. Seems like a snub to me ...

^Could it just be that the old suits don't like Leo? After all, they do pick who wins.
