^Could it just be that the old suits don't like Leo? After all, they do pick who wins.

That does seem plausible ... or maybe they are jealous that Kate Winslet rejected their advances while LEo could to do a couple of great scenes with her ?:gap:

Valkrye - 7/10

True Story based on the last known assassination attempt on Hitler. It is well made, good acting, scenery and all but it clearly lacked the pace. In the hands of a more capable director, this movie could have been even better.

There are quite a few scenes in Django that Leo absolutely nails. If there was a performance he should have won for... I think Django is it. Christopher Waltz proved he is good at portraying that one character, but I think it's a shame he got the supporting actor nomination for Django. It was basically a repeat performance.

Whaaat? The only similarity in those characters was that he was German. Waltz stole the show in both movies, which were packed with stars and great performances. Leo also delivered, but I personally didn't come away from Django thinking about Leo.

Did anyone see 300: Rise of an empire? Are there 300 protagonist again? And why are there no super-ripped six pack guys?

Pacific Rim.

Is it just me, or did this movie basically have the exact same plot as Independence Day? The aliens even have the same motives, and Stringer Bell gives basically the same speech that Bill Pullman gave!

Still, enjoyable flick that pretty much delivered exactly what I was expecting from the previews. Entertaining throughout and fantastic special effects. Nothing ground-breaking, but I didn't think there would be so I'm not disappointed. All in all, fun movie if you're looking to turn off your brain for a couple of hours and watch giant robots smash giant aliens.

Also, Ron Pearlman was fantastic in his small role. What an amazing outfit, too, and his end credits scene is hilarious. Charlie Day was great too, as he is in everything he's in.

8/10.

Roman Holiday (1953) - Audrey Hepburn -- I guess I'm on a classic/black and white movie kick. Thought this one was really cute/sad. The ending -- the eyes had it.

8.5/10

dont know how you cant see that christopher waltz hasnt shown a lot of range in his movies.

I've only seen his two Tarantino ventures and I already said I don't feel his performances were very similar. In one he was someone you hated versus a character you loved. In one he brought an evil sensibility and incredible tension to every scene. In the other he was basically a progressive badass.

I suppose they were both meticulously skilled Germans, but they made me feel different things. His role in Zero Theorem looks to be totally different as well.

watched Now You See Me.

Fell asleep the first two times I tried to watch it. Made it through this time, and not terrible. Not great either though, 6.5/10

Seen that new 300 movie. Terrible. 2/10 Would have gave it a 1 but people might think I'm not serious

Synecdoche, New York -- first half of the movie had me slightly confused, but heavily invested. There is an aspect of Vanilla Sky, to a certain degree. I initially didn't think I would feel anything for this movie, but when Dianne Wiest's character came into play, it all started to make sense. Definitely a movie that you need to pay close attention to.

What format did you see it in? I think I'm going to go watch it tonight in Imax 3D. I fully expect the storyline & acting to blow, but I'm hoping it's a spectacle to see in Imax 3D. Haven't heard great reviews so far.

Watched T2 and Deer Hunter again for the first time in years.

T2 is truly one of the greatest action movies of all time. The technology remains excellent even after years of further development. Put this way...if you watched the movie today, the technology wouldn't be up to par with today's technology but it wouldn't be distracting. And that alone says a lot. It's an action movie so there's not a whole lot of analysis to be made on it, but it's the rare action movie with reasonably good acting (outside of Arnold), a good plot and strong action scenes. The plot obviously has some holes in it, but that's pretty forgiveable when it comes to action movies and particularly those starring national treasure Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Deer Hunter...I mean, it was basically a director saying...Bobby and Meryl, you're obviously great...go ahead and take it to the next level. Deniro was amazing. Meryl was amazing and hot. The acting was strong across the board and the characters were extremely believable. The movie has the added mystique of John Cazale- who was excellent as his usual vulnerable and somewhat pathetic side character- dying before getting to even watch the movie. I didn't realize that he and Meryl Streep were dating at the time and that she cared for him until his death.

With all that said...the movie jumped around WAY too much. It seemed so focused on Streep and Deniro that it failed to focus enough on the other characters and what lead to their eventual fates. It was just the Russian Roulette scene- one of the greatest scenes of all time- and then bam... Walken is mentally destroyed and Stevie is a double amputee. There wasn't enough Viet Nam to explain how they became the way they did.

I HATED the ending breakfast scene. Seemed pretentious and forced. I could see it being much more meaningful in 1978 though.

Overall, what made the movie great was the entire wedding scene, the roulette scene and Deniro and Streep's performances. There was enough left to be desired that I feel safe saying it was great but over-rated.

Need For Speed was surprisingly pretty good. Cudi was great.
