Anyone see The Raid 2 yet? Thoughts?

edit: If it's anything like the first, then it'll be the best action movie in years.

Saw it last night. 10/10. See this ish immediately if you liked The Raid or the action genre in general.

The Machine - 5.5/10. A slightly above-average sci-fi movie which, in reality, was a total low-budget rip off of Blade Runner. The even copied the Vangelis score with the 80's style sci-fi music. Overall, it's worth watching if you enjoy the genre, which I do, but to others it may come off as a complete bastardization of a great classic.

Started watching The Hobbit II last night. Only made it an hour in because I worked from 7a-1a yesterday. My only take away from the movie so far is I hate the Elves eyes. Jackson uses some type of CGI BS to enhance the Elves eyes to make them glow or something. It's horrible.

Also, I hate how the Dwarves and Bilbo go from one mission to another. They're on their journey and they come across some unseen event, of course, where their lives are threatened. The instant they escape death they run directly into another life threatening scenario. Rinse wash repeat for the 1st hour of the movie. It's IMO lazy story telling.

Hope you're watching in 3D.. It's really what makes the movie worth sitting there for 3+ hours. The latter half of the movie is good, but I agree, Jackson's storytelling does (and has always) seemed lazy. It seems he substitutes scope for script and direction.

His movies come off more like student plays at a poorly funded local community college rather than the theatrical works of an acclaimed director.

I think, looking back on his previous works which seem to exist in a previous universe, it's fairly apparent that he's not very skilled at his craft. At least, that's my take on it. He struck gold with Lord of the Rings, and stuck to the formula for what will be 6 successive times.

So while I feel the movies are visual spectacles it's the fact that I personally love the Hobbit and LotR books so much, I find it difficult not to enjoy the movies quite a bit. But maybe a great deal of that is solely because I love the source material and the world Jackson is putting on the screen, far more so than anything that can be attributed to Jackson himself.

Hell, the one thing he has done that is worth praise is that he has mostly left his own marks on the story completely out of the films (mostly), which I am very much grateful for.

Ride Along.

Just really awful. If someone suggests it, punch them square in the mouth.

I want to see the new Cap movie pretty badly, 3D worth it or does it not matter?

I didn't see it in 3D as there aren't any 3D theaters in my area. But having watched it, I don't see how 3D would have made it any better. It doesn't seem like it was filmed in 3D at all, to be honest.

Tried watching The Man of Steel more than once. Within the first 2 minutes, I realized that it was garbage. Casting was all wrong. The script wasn't great either.

I waited for it to get better, and it never did. Old school Superman was the best. Give me Christopher Reeve/Margot Kidder and the crappy special effects of the late 70's than this weak writing of the same story over and over. I don't care that the special effects were really good, that movie was pathetic.
-3/10

Yea, Man Of Steel was not good. One of the shittier super-hero movies of the last few years.

I watched Gangs of New York again, hoping I wouldn't again find it over-rated. No such luck.

Movie just does not hold my interest past the first scene, which was awesome.

I dislike Cameron Diaz thoroughly, largely because I also think her looks are over-rated.

I also found it distracting that the New York in that movie is absolutely nothing like what New York was actually like at that time. There was no crime and chaos of that level, the housing was not like in the movie, etc. Plenty of movies take creative liberties, but it bothered me with this one for some reason.

Daniel Day Lewis was amazing, which isn't even worth saying. Costumes were tremendous. The song "Shimmy She Wobble" played throughout the first scene in the movie is fantastic as well and, while it seemingly makes minimal sense being in the scene, works wonderfully.

I feel like I should like it more, but I just can't.

Anchorman 2. 1/10

Horrible. Might have laughed one time. Just awful.

Falcons hideout house was filmed in our house in Tremont. Haven't seen it yet, but I know it's about a 4 minute scene.
