Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you've enjoyed the rest of the MCU, you'll love Guardians of the Galaxy. It's one of the better movies they've made.

Saw Boyhood today. 8/10. No real plot, just the kid growing up. Most of us on here are dudes so we could relate to it a lot. Certainly got boring at times ... I can tell this is the type of film people are going to rave about and will call one of the best films ever, but I'll just start with it's one of the better movies of this year for sure.

Also saw Guardians of the Galaxy but really not even worth talking about. Not that it was bad. I'd give it like a 6.5/10, I had fun. Just, I'll forget about it when I wake up tomorrow.

I missed this post, but no offense, a movie like that isn't supposed to have a plot. I don't think a good, or even great movie absolutely needs a plot. A movie like this is obviously a character study.

Haven't seen it yet. There's no secret I'm a bit bias when it comes to Linklater though.

Watched Into the Wild. While it was a solid film it didn't portray any of the personal flaws of Chris McCandless. It was shown as the fault of everyone else including his family rather than his own personal decisions. Presents a biased view.

That's exactly how I walked away from that movie as well...

Gouri I'm surprised and a little disappointed you haven't dropped any bombs in the Ferguson thread yet :chuckles:

I read and watched Into the Wild. I didn't really think about it from the angle of analyzing how blame was distributed. And I honestly can't remember how much blame they seemed to give him in the movie. The fact that he went out there at all into one of the most difficult survival scenarios in the world was a massive mistake, but going prior to the annual flooding that prevented him from returning, not getting enough to eat and eating the plant that may have ultimately killed him were the direct reasons why he died. It was such an awful place to go to try to survive that even if he hadn't made those two horrible decisions, he probably would have died anyways.

The book was great. Into Thin Air is even better though, because it's right in Krakauer's wheelhouse. He, himself, is/was a legitimate climber and was able to speak to that case from an expert POV.

I really enjoyed it this movie and LOVED the way it was filmed.......but I couldn't help but start to hate that kid as he got older :chuckles:

Well, I was just stating a fact. It doesn't really have an actual plot.

I gave the film an 8/10 and said it was good. Go see it before questioning people who have seen it. :chuckles: It's definitely a quality film that I will probably never forget, and may even watch again. I'm a young man and it made me look back on my formative years, even though my life was nothing like Mason Jr's. And truth is, Mason is not a terribly likeable kid. Far too apathetic and low key, no real screen presence, but that may be the point. Definitely worth a watch, but not one of the best films ever.

And I totally made my above post before reading yours.

Absolutely 100% agree, as I said in my post. "Hate" is a strong word but I get your drift. He was not likeable. LOVED the way it ended though. Fuck, was perfect.

Wow. So I finally finished Boyhood. I just love Richard Linklater's work. He gives you the feels in his movies... and personally, that's what I watch movies for.

Do you like Horror movies ?
Do you like Zombie horror movies ?
Do you like Zombie horror movies where the zombies are Nazis ?
What ? You already saw Dead Snow ?

Then what about Dead Snow 2 ?

This movie continues right where the first one left off and this seems like a logical continuation. More cheesy, just as gory and a more complete story this one will will make you want to kill some Nazi zombies. If you liked the first one then you will like this one.

Agreed. What a great movie. I would've probably given it a 7.5 if it were normal but the fact that they used the same actors and actresses over a span of twelve years blew me away. So cool. I gave it an 8.5/10. Definitely reccomend you go see it if you haven't.

Do you like Horror movies ? Yes.
Do you like Zombie horror movies ? Yes.. Very much so!
Do you like Zombie horror movies where the zombies are Nazis ? Err.... no...
What ? You already saw Dead Snow ? Unfortunately, yeah...

Then what about Dead Snow 2 ? ugh...

I've never been able to mix horror and comedy. Like, sometimes it works when done really well like "From Dusk Til Dawn" or "Shaun of the Dead," but usually these movies aren't my cup of tea.

Again, for the same reasons you mentioned, they are too "cheesy."

X-Men: Days of Future Past - It was an enjoyable X-Men flick. You pretty much know what you're getting into when you start the movie, and it remains consistent with the better installments of the franchise (read: not X-Men 3). I definitely liked the blending of the original trilogy's stars with the ones from First Class. I'm still not sure why Anna Paquin was listed so high in the end credits, though. I don't recall her being in a single scene except for one at the very end of the movie. I was a little sad that Quicksilver wasn't in more of the movie. His action scene near the beginning was one of the best.

Overall: Solid superhero movie that's worth a watch. 8/10

Riddick - I feel like this movie was basically just a remake of Pitch Black. Riddick, check. Johns, check. Stranded on a dangerous alien planet, check. People hunting him that end up being hunted themselves, check. Scary aliens that only come out in the dark, check. It was an entertaining movie, but it just had a "been there, done that" feel to it. Riddick remains a fun, interesting character and Vin Diesel continues to play him perfectly. I'm just struggling to see what the point of this movie was aside from just existing. It didn't really advance the main story established at the beginning (Riddick's search for his home world, Furya), and at the end of the movie Riddick is pretty much exactly where he was when it started, or at least during the flashbacks shortly after it started. It was still better than the awful Chronicles of Riddick, and I wasn't bored while watching it, but I was hoping for something a little more original.

Overall: If you like Riddick, I'd recommend giving it a watch. It's a decent sci-fi action movie that mostly stands on the strength of Diesel's character. 6/10

What really sucks is that there will be two concurrent versions of Quicksilver from now on in two movies. In the X-Men franchise, we'll have Quicksilver son of Magneto (which they didn't even touch, which I thought odd); and in the Avengers franchise, we'll have Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, genetic experiments brought about by Hydra and Loki's staff...

I think that kinda sucks, and I wish Marvel had just made them mutants without explaining it (which was permissible under their agreement with Fox). They didn't require origins other than "we don't know who our real parents are," "but we were born with these powers the developed over time." No more explanation is required.. Making them genetically engineered, all the while knowing both characters true origins will be used by a competing franchise is fucking stupid.

Those two characters are explicitly laid out in Fox's licensing agreement in that Marvel is allowed to use them and is allowed to call them "mutants," but they cannot explain their origins and they cannot reference Magneto. Fine.. Don't do an origin story for them, and don't reference Magneto... But don't change their origins while another franchise (Age of Apocalypse) will almost assuredly explain it in contradictory fashion. It is, again, fucking stupid. Director's saying "I don't care, it's my movie."
